Marvel has released Kaare Andrews character studies from Warren Ellis’ upcoming Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenisis miniseries.
This doesn’t really work for me AT ALL. Storm doesn’t look regal. She’s long past her punk phase and even when she had a mohawk, she avoided the mullet look and had more class than a tube top. UPDATE: OK the “mullet” is feather earrings – which STILL look ridiculous. Also, since when is Emma Frost a dwarf with a saggy bottom? To be shorter than Wolvie in THOSE heels she’d have to be 4 foot 10 or shorter. C’MON! And if this is an out of scale issue (from compositing images ar wrong heights), then her ass would just be bigger. I like the top half of Armor’s costume but not the clamdiggers / tennis shoes combination OR the Michelin Tire Man version of her armor. I mean REALLY.

All the X-blogs are abuzz with talk of the the big X-Men Event to follow on the heels of Necrosha… Second Coming crosses over into X-Men (Uncanny & Legacy), X-Factor, X-Force and New Mutants. The X-Men have their hands full with the technarch-infected mutant-hating/hunting AI entity known as Bastion back yet again to bedevil them. PLUS it looks now that A Girl Named Hope is over and she and Cable are back from the future, the Phoenix is back too. but is Hope Summers really Jean? If so, what, reincarnated? Hope WAS born in Alaska… could she be Madelyne Pryor’s or some Summers/Grey genetic experiment of Mister Sinister’s – he DID come after her before Rogue killed him (and his seemingly short-lived return as Miss Sinister). And if the girl known as Hope Summers IS the Phoenix, does that mean Bishop was right to want her dead? Is she fated to save or damn mutankind? Only time and these stories will tell.
All will unite. One will rise. One will die. One will lead. One will sacrifice. Your thoughts? Mine after the Marvel teaser images…
All will unite – the disparate x-teams will come together. One will rise – will Hope be the return of Phoenix or Dark Phoenix (was Bishop right)? One will die – I’m guessing Cable. One will lead – not sure if it is Emma or Mags – I think Scott may be too broken by his son Nathan’s death (if I’m right) and need some time. One will sacrifice… hmmm Not sure what the sacrifice will be… Maybe Nathan gives his life to save Hope’s… any other theories?
With this crossover running through all the major X-Titles: Uncanny X-Men, X-Men Legacy, New Mutants, X-Force and even the usually somewhat unplugged X-Factor, it is a MAJOR event. And with longtime x-foe Bastion as the big bad and specials showcasing the X-Men’s resident supergeniuses (X-MEN: SECOND COMING – REVELATIONS: BLIND SCIENCE #1) and a 3-issue miniseries chronicling an ill-timed side-battle in Limbo (X-MEN: SECOND COMING – REVELATIONS: BLIND SCIENCE #1), we may just have to wait awhile to find out if Hope Summer will we absolutely corrupted by her newfound power or not. See Shades of X to Come – May 2010 for more on those specials!

Some fascinating hints of whats in store for the x-universe… BEWARE: Thar be spoilers below if you click the images and read the captions (including Pixie’s daddy – and he was one of my listed possible baby batter doners) Lots going on in the XU this spring. We have the return of mutant Hope in the X-Event known as Second Coming running through X-Men (Uncanny & Legacy), X-Factor, X-Force, and New Mutants (more on that in just a sec). Dazzler (new tale with half-sis Lois London as the big bad) and Emma Frost (another origin) specials, cryptic hints on an upcoming X-death, Daken vs Wolverine vs Romulus in Dark Wolverine! and Wolverine #900? wait a sec, I’ll need some help on that math cause that plain seems wrong. Maybe if you add up every issue of every comic that Logan EVER appeared in?
I have to admit that being a HUGE fan of DC’s recent zombies, I was unimpressed by Necrosha (still awaiting the final chapter but, meh) The BL characters in DC were by definition NOT really the characters but former Black Queen and wanna-be-goddess Selene’s unexplained magic/tech and the stories of the Necrosha arc just weren’t that scary or as horrific. Sure I’m happy to have Doug Ramsey back but with this new interpretation of Cypher’s abilities he’s not the same cannon-fodder mutant he once was.

I like Pixie and was one of the few who didn’t mind when they unmanga’d her and stopped drawing her like an 11 year old. I’m glad to see more of her!
Pixie, X-23, Armor, Mercury and Blindfold face a new kind of hell: high school! Things get even worse when Pixie’s mother shows up on Utopia demanding to see her daughter. Discover the truth about Pixie, including the answer to something even SHE doesn’t know: the identity of her father – one of the most dangerous X-Villains ever!
For some reason I thought Blindfold wasn’t just blind, but in fact didn’t have eyes… Am I making that up or was she ever drawn that way?
I am eagerly wondering who Pixie’s father could be… any guesses people? The powers she had BEFORE Magik took part of her soul to make a “soul dagger” were flight (due to insect wings) and “pixie dust” which causes hallucinations. Not getting a clue from the wings, but hallucinations, hmmm, maybe Mesmero?
Marvel has announced that this March, in “Uncanny X-Men” #522, Kitty Pryde will be returning to the X-Men. To celebrate the popular character’s return, they’ve released the following trailer.
She hasn’t been gone THAT long, but just in case we have some readers with memory loss… here are some shots of Kitty Pryde in the various costumes and codenames over the years.
Well at least Colossus will stop moping around once she’s back. Guesses on how? a S.W.O.R.D. rescue? a magical solution thanks to Illyana? She thinks her way out by hacking the bullet? My money’s on Agent Brand and her ilk.

I hope we start to see Northstar be a bit more effective, with his speed, he could be a great asset but he just punches things really fast and ineffectually. He needs a utility belt and some weighted gloves. I like Tim Fish’s work so I’m looking forward to seeing where it’s going… but DO I wish it started with Northstar doing something impressive instead of requiring a rescue from… what are those? warwolves? Where would he run into those? Can they fly?
IN THIS ISSUE: Jubilee returns to the X-Men, Gambit has trouble adjusting to life on Utopia, Northstar deals with the distance that island living necessitates and No-Girl has to save all the X-Men from a foe living right under their noses. Part 2 (of 4)

I just don’t know about newly uber-ninja Doug Ramsey being able to read “body language.” It is an interesting way to make him far less ineffectual if they mean to rescue him from Selene’s clutches and make him part of the team again. I don’t fully understand these resurrected characters yet. They SEEM to have their own personalities but that could just be programming. I’m hoping Warlock will be able to purge the virus from Doug and return him to his old friends.
The massive event tying X-FORCE, X-MEN LEGACY and NEW MUTANTS together continues! Doug Ramsey isn’t the only one back from the grave as the New Mutants’ old enemies the Hellions come calling. Old grudges (and enemies, for that matter) don’t die easy.

I’m sure you didn’t expect things to be easy on the X-Men’s island Utopia. Where would the fun be in that? No worries. The X folk have their hands full with a plane full of mutant eating monsters known as Predator-X. This issue is chock full of questions and surprises….
Magneto’s return has stunned the X-Men, but that’s not the only surprise they’re in for as a herd of Predator X’s come hungry for mutant tar tar. The hits just keep on coming, but can the X-Men, still nursing their wounds from UTOPIA, deal with all this?
Just how powerful IS Rogue now that she has control of her abilities? What’s up with the Phoenix force? Is Magneto’s age FINALLY catching up to him? Can they PLEASE use Northstar well for a change? He’s a super speedster with years of experience – he would have more in his repertoire than just zipping around punching metal monsters ineffectually.
Warren Ellis and Phil Jimenez are taking Astonishing X-Men back to the big-screen theatric level that Whedon and Cassaday captured when the title began.
2009 is the year of the zombie. We have undead events Blackest Night and Necrosha, but now not only do the X-Men have to worry about Selene burying them in techno-organic corpses, but also have to watch for mutant-slaying robot Sentinels made of meat and bone, wearing the skin of one of their own deceased teammates. Thye might wanna start considering cremation.
And as the X-Men fight for their lives, they’re left to wonder: What could this monstrosity have to do with THE BROOD?
Loving the artwork of Phil Jimenez and so happy to see Abigail Brand and S.W.O.R.D. again. I was losing interest in this title during the last arc, but this seems to be bringing back the excitement. But what’s with Emma transforming? Thought she was stuck in diamond form? Is this pre-Nation-X?
I’ve been a fan of Psylocke since she first joined the X-Men as prim and proper English lady Elisabeth Braddock. Way back when, I picked up Alan Davis’ trade paperback of her introduction in Captain Britain from the Marvel UK imprint. So I loved her BEFORE Jim Lee turned her into a dangerous scantily clad sword wielding Asian ninja – which only improved her! I was sad to see her die and glad to see her resurrected, but again bummed to see her Exiled and left in limbo. So when she returned to the X-Men after a brief mind-controlled flirtation with the dark side I was ready to see her take center stage again… I didn’t have to wait long!
Psylocke has returned to the X-Men! Following the defeat of Madelyne Pryor and her Sisterhood, Psylocke travels to Japan to re-inter her former body in its proper resting place. But when a swarm of Hand ninjas attack Psylocke and do the unspeakable under orders from Matsu’o—the assassin originally responsible for transplanting Psylocke’s mind into the body of an Asian ninja—Psylocke determines that Matsu’o is one loose end that can no longer be left unresolved. It’s a tale of carnage and revenge, brought to you by superstars Chris Yost (X-FORCE) and Harvey Tolibao (AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE)!
Also Psylocke #1 kicks off a 4 part backup story by Duane Swierczynski and Steve Dillon (Preacher, Punisher) that will set about the return of Cable and the girl known as Hope Summers to the X-Men in the present, just in time for X-Men: Second Coming in Spring 2010! A Girl Named Hope runs through Psylocke #1, Dark X-Men #1, X-Men Legacy #230 and X-Force #22.
X-Men: A Girl Named Hope begins the most shocking change to the X-Men you can imagine! Will Hope save or damn mutantkind? What is Cable’s agenda? The answers begin in X-Men: A Girl Named Hope!
Some fascinating hints of whats in store for the x-universe… The XU (X-Men Legacy, X-Force, New Mutants) is apoppin with zombies doing the bidding of wanna-be-goddess Selene in the first real X-Event of 2010… Necrosha. But its far from the last as Hope is still on her way back from the future and Nate Grey is back so there are all kinds of possibilities for mutants in 2010!
Stay tuned to the various X-Titles for further development…

Emplate is back and he’s hungry. He lived off his sisters (Penance) for a long time and a mutant with abilities like Bling (whose bone marrow produces diamonds) offers him a potentially unlimited sustenance. Good thing the X-Men aren’t likely to let her go without a fight.
The X-Men Legacy #228 images above incorporates a few previously released unlettered pages that were not included in the most recent preview.

He’s been killed, depowered and resurrected and repowered more times than I can count, so excuse me for not being all THAT excited. But for those who missed him, Mags is back in part 1 of a 7 part epic called Nation-X…
I don’t know about this group of bads… their names are dumb… Lobe and Thug? and a naked French assassin who is invisible in directly sunlight names Verre (French for glass). Is that the best you can do? Really?
THE STORY: …CLASSIFIED… The effects of UTOPIA are felt here! One of the original X-Men makes his exit!
As for who leaves… I’m guessing Beast isn’t pleased with the all the secrets and lies that have been a matter of course for awhile now.
Next Issue: MAGNETO! At least it looks like it from the cover, but you never know (they never did satisfactorily explain the who the Magneto was that menaced New York while huffing MGH and killed Phoenix before Wolvie decapitated him).
Alan Davis art on an X-Men Dark Reign story? Count me in! Norman Osborn has made a list of the things he thinks are wrong with the Marvel u and next he aims to fix them. LOOK OUT X-MEN!
The fallout of UTOPIA begins here. What else could Norman Osborn possibly do to the X-Men? …CLASSIFIED… Plus, Matt Fraction’s first Marvel story featuring the X-Men!
She REALLY didn’t tell Scott about her seat at the table? I find that hard to believe. SHe knows what an excellent tactician he is, I would think she would find his input invaluable in a situation like that. On the other hand the secrecy would appeal to the “old” Emma.
Emma Frost’s secret dealings with the Cabal come to light and her life will never be the same.
It really seems to be a big year for the undead. We have zombies and vampires all over the summer blockbusters, cosmic zombies plaguing the DCU and now the X-Men, X-Force and the New Mutants have to watch out for Selene and her gang of techno organic mutant zombies in a terrifying crossover from x-writers Chris Yost, Craig Kyle, Mike Carey, and Zeb Wells.
YES. Selene is back (and this time I’m sure – I’m not confused by Monet in a slutty leather outfit)! We’ve known that she had Blink at her right hand (though not how she is alive or how she hooked up with Selene) since we saw Selene at the end of X-Force #11 with 3 shadowed figures standing alongside her throne. ).
Even in shadow, Clarice Ferguson is unmistakable with her light purple legs and signature chartreuse costume. To Blink’s right looks to be Wither, and on Selene’s left is Emplate (from the oversize hands). She’s now gathered a group of mutants with life-draining powers. From last week’s Exodus preview we’ve learned she also has Dazzler’s half-sister Lois London now know as Mortis and former Acolyte Senyaka with her as well as whatever dead mutants that poor undead enslaved Caliban led her and smitten vampric thrall Eli Bard too.
As to what she’s after… well Selene wants to be a Goddess. And she’s always been more than willing, eager in fact to sacrifice thousands of souls to do it.
Rogue has control of her body and mind and soon she’ll take on a bit more. Rogue is about to take a leading role in X-MEN LEGACY. It’s up to Rogue to foster the last generation of mutants, but can she even keep X-Men’s real legacy, the students… alive? Classic X-Villain Emplate’s back, and with the lack of snacks in the post M-Day Marvel U these days… he’s gotta be hungry!
The annual features story by Mike Carey and the gorgeous artwork of Daniel Acuna and Mirco Pierfederici.
The creative team from Captain Britain and MI13 isn’t taking much of a break after the cancellation of their series. Next up for the pair is a 5 issue Dark X-Men miniseries starting in November that chronicles the aftermath of UTOPIA and EXODUS. The cast is a mystery – writer Paul Cornell couldn’t reveal the line-up without giving away the end of the current storyline.
The only Dark X-Men character that Cornell was willing to go into detail about is Nate Grey (AKA X-Man). Nate, the son of an alternate reality’s Cyclops and Jean Grey, was one of a number of new or variant characters who survived the close of the 1995-96 X-Men storyline The Age of Apocalypse (also Dark Beast, HolocaustSabertooth, Blink and Sugar Man).” His own title chronicling his exploits in the 616 universe ran until Nate apparently sacrificed his life to save the world in issue #75. Dark X-Men marks his return to the Marvel Universe.
But contrary to what you may be thinking, Nate Grey isn’t a part of the team. He’s the target. You can see why Norman Osborn wouldn’t want “a very powerful, charismatic, alternative leader of mutant affairs who is a Summers dreaming his way back into the world, the deadliest possible hero.”
Unfortunately for the cast of “Dark X-Men” they’ll have no choice but to confront Nate Grey because he quickly becomes part of an important mission that Osborn tasks them with. “The story is called ‘Journey to the Centre of the Goblin’, and, though it won’t become clear until towards the end, that’s exactly what it becomes about, getting inside Norman Osborn’s head,” Cornell revealed. “On the way, we encounter the world haunted by Nate, the cult that S.H.I.E.L.D. became, and the twisted psyches of our four leads, which skew the story in ways that might surprise you.”
OK so these guys are working for Osborn, but we see Angel and Beast (and 2 mystery character – 1 female) on the cover of #1… Dark Beast or our Henry? Would Warren work for Osborn? Makes me eager for the end of Utopia and Exodus…
I’m looking forward to seeing exactly HOW the X-Men (Dark or otherwise) will deal with this situation. I’m thinking maybe Emma will take the Sentry away from Norman? With Ares on his side, the X-Men need a serious heavy hitter on theirs.
UTOPIA rages on! Norman Osborn’s victory in San Francisco is cemented when the Dark X-Men succeed where the X-Men can’t. All the while the Dark Avengers
are forced to watch from the sidelines. But how long will Bullseye and Ares sit idle?
