Hugh Jackman voted Sexiest Man Alive 2008

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Each year, the editors at People magazine rolls up their sleeves and set themselves to the task of choosing who is the Sexiest Man Alive (see the official SMA Cover Gallery). The choice for 2008 is non other than the X-Men’s hirsute living weapon - Wolverine… a.k.a. Hugh Jackman.

2008 People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine

Whether he’s belting out showtunes onstage or slicing and dicing evil mutants, Jackman is a quadruple threat who can act, sing, dance and fight with claws or swords. At the age of 40, with an athletic muscular physique his wife of 12 years calls "the Body of Doom", 6ft 2in tall Hugh Jackman is now officially the sex-symbol of 2008. Move over Brad and Matt, its time for someone furrier.

The X-Men have found a new home in the sunny city of San Francisco, but that doesn’t mean everything’s fine for Wolverine. The past catches up with everyone’s favorite Canadian Canucklehead once again! Logan’s ex now leads the Triads, gathering four mystical warriors with the power to kill Wolverine!

    We’ll just see about that.

Months ago, both Wolverine and Charles Xavier began a search into their pasts that will take them down the same path. Every month this summer will bring these two quests closer together until September when they collide in Dark Deception. As if the Secret Invasion wasn’t enough.

Xavier has been seeking the memories he lost after his injury at the end of Messiah Complex. His search so far has reunited him with Gambit and revealed that Mr. Sinister was involved in something, well sinister, at the Alamogordo facility. Under the name Nathan Millbury, Sinister had in fact performed some type of tests on young Charles Xavier and Carter Ryking. We also know that Sebastian Shaw’s father was involved somehow in something called the Cronos Project. Lots of clues and hints but it will take a few issues for Chuck to put it all together.

Wolverine is still seeking what he always has… the secrets to his past and revenge against those who used him. Logan’s part in the Dark Deception stems from the Son of X storyline beginning in June and continuing the story of Wolverine and Daken (the son Wolverine thought died in the womb when Winter Soldier murdered Logan’s pregnant wife in order to draw him out.

I haven’t been following Wolverine: Origins, so Marvel has again come up with a ploy to get me to buy something I wasn’t interested in.

lineup for Marvel's animated Wolverine and the X-Men

Marvel seems to know how to cash in on having a big hit, while all eyes are on them, they’ve released the new trailer to Wolverine and the X-Men. I don’t see why Wolvie get top billing. He’s cool and all that but there is no I in team.

This looks fantastic! I love the artistic style. We have all the classic elements for a goos X-tale… anit-mutant sentiment, bigoted politicians, a brotherhood of evil mutants, Sentinals, Cerebro, time travel, and a cast of many mutants…

They appear to have fully embraced the entire X-universe. Spoted by Newsarama:Polaris, Gambit, Maverick, Dust, Cannonball, Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost, Storm, Cyclops, Spiral, Mojo, the Beast, Angel, Iceman, the Brotherhood, Mystique, Rogue, Senator Kelly and…the Hulk(?).

The article didn’t mention seeing Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Domino, Wolfsbane, Vertigo, or Rusty. Some readers spotted most of them, but noone mentioned the mob of Madroxes! I’m officially psyched! And not as sad to lose Legion, this looks waaaaay better.

I do think it’s weird that Wolverine has been handed the lead role by Xavier. Scott is gonna have one helluva sulk over that.

I think Scott makes a damn fine filthy hippy, so if Emma doesn’t want him…

Wolverine about to get into the action in his boxers

Wolverine always struck me as one to sleep naked… but the boxers aren’t bad either.

    Colossus about to hit hard

Just a great shot of Colossus.

This weeks Mighty Avengers was a drastic improvement on what we’ve seen recently. Hopefully the timing snafus between the Avengers titles (Ultron, and the Venom Virus were supposed to cross over but just didn’t quite manage to make the schedule). Inquiring minds have been wondering what Nick Fury has been up to , and now we know that he was onto the Skrulls months ago. Th pane last panel seems to insinuate that Fury suspects one or more of the following of being Skrull agents… Spiderman, Wolverine, Daredevil, Hulkling, Dr. Strange, Namor, Sentry, Lockjaw and Stature. I noticed all the Young Avengers among his photos, but didn’t see any Runaways, so Xavin may be under his radar.
