Looking forward to picking this up today… (among other things).
The high impact, critically acclaimed sci-fi epic rages towards its explosive climax! Last issue’s jaw-dropping cliffhanger has everyone scrambling! In the first issue, the psychotic lost Summers Brother Vulcan, now Emperor of the Shi’ar blasted his way into Crystal’s royal wedding to Ronan (the Accuser) in an unprovoked assault on the Kree Empire. The Inhumans have sworn revenge and the War of Kings is on.
The cosmic heavyweights come out swinging! Black Bolt! Gladiator! The Inhumans! Vulcan! The Starjammers! As Kree outworlds burn, Shi’Ar forces move in for the kill—as first blood goes to Vulcan and the Imperial Guard! Can anything withstand the military juggernaut of Vulcan’s Imperium? And are the lines of allegiance drawn as clearly as it first appears? The major players make their big moves as the battle that will reshape the cosmic power structure rages on!
I’m loving the Paul Pelletier artwork on this series. Longtime fan of his.

CBR recently posted a set of posts detailing basic background histories for some of the key players in Marvel Comics upcoming War of Kings. Setting up the battlefield like a chessboard they revealed the Kings, Queens and Bishops of the game…
Known as the “King’s Game,” chess is a centuries old game that’s been used to teach military strategy. This March, two of the most powerful rulers in the Marvel Universe, will turn the cosmos into their own personal chessboard in “War of Kings,” a six-issue miniseries by writers Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning and artist Paul Pelletier.
The Kings and Queens are Inhuman rulers Black Bolt and Medusa and the new Emperor of the Shi’ar, Vulcan and his Royal Consort Deathbird (though Vulcan is actually the long lost 3rd Summers brother from earth, he currently IS the will of the Shi’ar empire).
The Bishops are Crystal (Medusa’s sister the Inhuman elemental), Ronan the Accuser – (her Kree warrior fiancee?), Lilandra Neramani (Former Shi’ar Majestrix) and Gladiator (leader of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard).
If you are wondering why Lilandra and Gladiator are both put on the side of the Shi’ar. Think about it. Common enemies and all that. Could the Inhumans be enough to cause Lil to mend fences with Vulcan and her sister or will she use the Inhumans to weaker the emperor and retake her throne? Cosmic intrigue – Marvel Style.
