I hope we start to see Northstar be a bit more effective, with his speed, he could be a great asset but he just punches things really fast and ineffectually. He needs a utility belt and some weighted gloves. I like Tim Fish’s work so I’m looking forward to seeing where it’s going… but DO I wish it started with Northstar doing something impressive instead of requiring a rescue from… what are those? warwolves? Where would he run into those? Can they fly?
IN THIS ISSUE: Jubilee returns to the X-Men, Gambit has trouble adjusting to life on Utopia, Northstar deals with the distance that island living necessitates and No-Girl has to save all the X-Men from a foe living right under their noses. Part 2 (of 4)

The void is now in the mind of Scott Summers and Magneto is making deals with Namor as Beast announces a decision. Strangely enough there are no reanimated mutants running around this title. Must be a big island.
Cyclops takes a voyage into the head of Emma Frost in hopes of containing the horrifying piece of the villainous Void that has been stuck there since UTOPIA. Can they possibly defeat the awfulness that has haunted the most powerful being in the Marvel U?
Tensions are rising on Utopia as the X-Men deal with the new members of their team and the fact that the island is…well…sinking
I guess Beast is off orbital adventures to the pages of S.W.O.R.D for awhile?

Magneto bonds (and scares) the X-kids. Wolverine sings the praises of… Cyclops? Iceman explains his roles as the X-Men’s class clown via inner monologue. Colossus channels his grief into art.
A mutant nation has been created on UTOPIA, off the coast of California. But what does that mean to the X-Men? Don’t miss the series that delves into the lives and minds of your favorite X-Characters. This issue stars Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler and others!
These sort of character-driven vignettes allow for exploration of the psychological affect of the various x-tragedies since M-Day that have most recently resulted in the creation of the X-Men’ s new island utopia. Some stories were better than others… overall the DCU Holiday was a better anthology.

I’m sure you didn’t expect things to be easy on the X-Men’s island Utopia. Where would the fun be in that? No worries. The X folk have their hands full with a plane full of mutant eating monsters known as Predator-X. This issue is chock full of questions and surprises….
Magneto’s return has stunned the X-Men, but that’s not the only surprise they’re in for as a herd of Predator X’s come hungry for mutant tar tar. The hits just keep on coming, but can the X-Men, still nursing their wounds from UTOPIA, deal with all this?
Just how powerful IS Rogue now that she has control of her abilities? What’s up with the Phoenix force? Is Magneto’s age FINALLY catching up to him? Can they PLEASE use Northstar well for a change? He’s a super speedster with years of experience – he would have more in his repertoire than just zipping around punching metal monsters ineffectually.

I don’t know about this group of bads… their names are dumb… Lobe and Thug? and a naked French assassin who is invisible in directly sunlight names Verre (French for glass). Is that the best you can do? Really?
THE STORY: …CLASSIFIED… The effects of UTOPIA are felt here! One of the original X-Men makes his exit!
As for who leaves… I’m guessing Beast isn’t pleased with the all the secrets and lies that have been a matter of course for awhile now.
Next Issue: MAGNETO! At least it looks like it from the cover, but you never know (they never did satisfactorily explain the who the Magneto was that menaced New York while huffing MGH and killed Phoenix before Wolvie decapitated him).

I’m looking forward to seeing exactly HOW the X-Men (Dark or otherwise) will deal with this situation. I’m thinking maybe Emma will take the Sentry away from Norman? With Ares on his side, the X-Men need a serious heavy hitter on theirs.
UTOPIA rages on! Norman Osborn’s victory in San Francisco is cemented when the Dark X-Men succeed where the X-Men can’t. All the while the Dark Avengers
are forced to watch from the sidelines. But how long will Bullseye and Ares sit idle?
The Dodson’s art looks beautiful!

I thought I’d go ahead and write this post as I read the actual issue – sort of a stream-of-consciousness kind of review. We’ll see how it turns out. All comfy, have provisions at hand, opening the issue as I publish… here goes nothing! Don’t red until you read for yourself – SPOILERS BEWARE!!!!
“UTOPIA: CHAPTER 2” WHO ARE THE DARK X-MEN? He has his own Avengers team and now Norman Osborn has his own X-Men team. The other shoe has finally dropped and Emma Frost has betrayed Cyclops and the rest of the X-Men. And that’s just one of the huge surprises in “UTOPIA”. Is that Namor? Cloak and Dagger? Professor X?! The thing that you aren’t ready for is that Osborn is right.
Solid opening. A lot has gone down since last issue. Gotta love Ms. Marvel looking like a fabulous drag queen in the Castro and Daken messing with a beatnik protester who looks like Logan. I don’t see Prof X – being so agreeable with Norman Osborn. OK Now we see Prof X and Beast are in the slammer – so was that Prof X siding with Norm under duress or an impostor? Looks like I had the line-up right… Mimic, CLoak, Dagger, Daken and Weapon Omega. And Oh shit, Dark Beast is working for Osborn. Now here is Armani Xavier again.. Hmm Since Charles is still in jail, looks like a doppelganger of some kind. Yup – Mystique – duh. Why didn’t I see that coming? REALLY should have. Hmmm, Namor was Emmas addition. Emma sniffs out Raven, but doesn’t ask where Charles is, interesting… What’s up with Trask? Is he one of the resurrected techorganics from the opening arc of the new X-Force? And the kids have a god question… DID Scott and Emma break up? or is this all part of a plan? Now what is Sunspot doing with this gang of sixth stringers? And why does it look like Emma is flying?
