SOLICIT INFO ADDED: I was saying yesterday that there were only two of DC Comics 52 #1 issues left to be revealed, so boy was I surprised when they unveiled the Superman family of titles as the “last 4″ of the 52 #1 issues today, sending me scrambling to recount and confirm all the titles I was counting as #1. Of the 54 titles on the list below, I found 1 that was NOT announced by DC – JSA #1 was on a list of titles I got from a CBR article when the reboot was announced – all the other titles they listed but JSA were eventually confirmed by DC, so that title is not official. But still makes 53 NOT 52. The only answer I have is that they are not counting Batman Inc. #1 as one of the 52 because it doesn’t come out until 2012? If that is the case, what OTHER titles come out in 2012?
The list below links to the covers released for each of the announced #1 issues – or if the cover is yet to be revealed, to DC’s announcement* rumored titles** linked to the source article.
So what does this mean? Most likely that the “52″ titles launching this fall are a first wave of new titles and we should expect a few more in 2012. Maybe some of these will be miniseries and be replaced? Either that or someone at DC needs to learn how to add?

Since the new and improved Doomsday has already cut a swath through the Eradicator, Steel, Supergirl (and the JLA), so I don’t see Conner being able to do much to end his “reign.” Hopefully Conner will manage to get a few good punches in.
A thoughtful conversation between Superboy and Red Robin comes to an abrupt end when Doomsday tears through Detroit… and the panel borders of this comic itself, as you’ll see in the preview below! This newly Eisner-nominated title welcomes aboard guest artist Marco Rudy, who joins writer Jeff Lemire for this fifth part of the Reign of Doomsday storyline.
We still have no clue as to WHO souped up Doomsday or why he’s checking off the Supermen who tried to pick up Superman’s mantle after Doomsday killed him. Will this issue provide answers? I doubt it. But it looks like a good read.
I have to admit I was a bit surprised to hear that Disney product Lucas Grabeel (who I’ve only seen in passing as Ryan Evans in the HSM series – yes I did actually watch most of the 1st one while channel surfing one night) had been cast as DC’s Superboy… Conner Kent on Smallville. With the recent correction that Michael Rosenbaum WILL reprise his role as Lex Luthor and the clones we’ve already seen running around, Conner’s appearance makes sense. I’m NOT so sure about the casting.
Fans of The CW’s ten-year anchor “Smallville” breathed a sigh of relief when it was finally officially confirmed that former series co-star Michael Rosenbaum would return one last time to play Lex Luthor in the May 13 series finale. Now, word is out that the young Luthor clone that’s been factoring in to the current Season 10 story line will appear again as a much different DC Comics character, Connor “Superboy” Kent.
TV Line revealed that the teen superhero will appear as played by actor Lucas Gabreel. No specific episode was confirmed for the character’s debut, but show executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders said “Conner’s journey is manipulated by a master…Luckily, someone knows more about Conner’s life than he does. But he should be wary of strangers bearing gifts.”
Grabeel probably has the acting chops to bring the cloned lovechild of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor to life on the small screen (he WAS in Milk apparently) – here’s an article about him explaining that role and the life and times of Harvey Milk to his Disney fans.
Still, I’d rather see someone who reminds me a bit more of Tom Welling 10 years back. You can dye his hair black, but it takes more than that to be Conner. I think the role requires more of that “young Superman” look. I see Grabeel as more of a Changeling jokester-type than a beefy Superboy. That t-shirt looks pretty baggy on him.

The Reign of Doomsday kicks off in STEEL #1 — Doomsday has returned to Metropolis, and with superman on walkabout, Steel is the only hero who can keep him from destroying the city. But how can Steel, a normal human, possibly hope to stop the monster who killed Superman? Can he hope? I don’t see ANY solicits for Steel #2. He may be toast.
The saga continues in Markovia, where the Eradicator struggles in battle against the murder-machine known as Doomsday! It’s a fight to the death with the lives of Geo-Force, Katana, the Looker, Halo and the Olympian all hanging in the balance! Don’t miss this brutal chapter as the “Reign of Doomsday” storyline stomps toward an explosive summer event! No one cares about The Eradicator. Kill him.
The next chapter of Reign of Doomsday is not only a cross over with the upcoming “The Rise of Eclipso” event! With the Spectre fallen and darkness spread throughout the DC Universe, no one is safe from Eclipso’s control, but also introduces Blue Lantern Saint Walker to the Justice League of America! In the remains of New Krypton, Doomsday tears through Batman, Supergirl and Alpha Lantern Boodikka in his search for Cyborg Superman as “Reign of Doomsday” rampages on!Retailers please note: This issue will ship with two covers. Please see the Previews Order Form for more information. May have been speculating that this may result in the death of Supergirl (again).
Due in April, the 4th chapter will be in Superboy #6 (no cover or solicit revealed as of yet) and they won’t be killing off Conner KENT again this soon after his LAST premature passing. The title set to feature the final chapter in May is still a mystery. Unless the Cyborg Superman is resurrected again in Green Lantern, most likely it will be in the pages of Action, Adventure or Superman?

I enjoyed the first issue of the new ongoing Superboy title showcasing fan favorite Conner Kent. I’ll be interested to se what the new weirdness in Smallville will be about – and hoping it’s not due to a preponderance of “meteor rock.”
With the vegetation of Smallville out of control, Poison Ivy would definitely be one of the Usual Suspects. But IS she responsible? Or is there something far more insidious going on in Superman’s hometown?
I’m going to have to go with the latter after that contraption seen on the 3rd page. It looks like some kind of alien tech infesting that poor farmer. Leftover Brainiac machinery run amok? Alien gizmos, Conner Kent AND Poison Ivy? Count me in!
Young Justice is a new ongoing Cartoon Network animated series starring the teen sidekicks of the DCU. Thankfully this lacks the ultra adorable (ick) manga quality of the Teen Titans cartoon that I hated so. I know some liked it – sorry if you did, but I found the overly cute aspect of it to be an abomination when applied to beloved characters and favorite stories that deserved a serious treatment but ended up bastardized (The Judas Contract). Young Justice on the other hand shows some promise. The character designs are great and the animation style is more like my beloved Justice League Unlimited than the annoying TT cartoon. Only one major complaint – WHERE IS WONDER GIRL???????
I knew the clips would not last – so I hope you saw them while they were up because they are gone now. The Cartoon Network website DOES have full episodes of some shows – lets hope they’ll be putting these up too. If so I’ll mention it
SPOILERIFIC LIVEBLOGGED COMMENTS BELOW!!!
Hmmm – Speedy is a bit of a pill. I think Artemis will be a better archer for the team (but is she Arrowette renamed? or a version of the Bana Mighdall amazon Artemis? I think the latter makes more sense with Wonder Girl missing). A distress call from Zatara? That’s odd, he should be long dead by the present – what other differences does the animated DCU of Earth-16 hold in store? Why not Zatanna? “We didn’t come for a play date!” LOVE IT! They are doing a good job of capturing the essence of the youthful hero-in-training who wants off the sidelines.
AMAZING action sequences! The look and style of this is PERFECT! I may have a new favorite cartoon. Cadmus is our big bad for this episode, makes sense… Enter Conner Kent, in white? It works I guess – reminds me of Galatea from JLU. And Young Justice falls… for the moment. Can they free themselves and Superboy? Of course…
Remind me not to get a creepy shoulder pet – my cat is smart and manipulative enough. Shouldn’t take Robin too long to figure out they need to disable the wee telepathic critters in order to free Superboy. Nope – looks like Conner must have figured it out himself. Superboy can’t fly? Really? Have they been watching Smallville instead of reading Teen Titans? When Conner 1st appeared after Supes croaked, could he fly? I thought he could.
OK This completely rocks! It’s really everything I wanted that Teen Titans cartoon to be (alas without the “New” Teen Titans I grew up with, but the line-up shows promise). Now I never read the “Young Justice” comic regularly. I only read a few specials here and there, so I don’t know if the team had a rogues gallery of its own that hasn’t been used in the current Teen Titans title… Who is The Light? From Superboy’s telepathically taught description of himself as a replacement for a fallen Superman or an opponent for a Superman turned against the light they seem like a shadow cabinet of individuals working for what they consider to be the “greater good” at any cost?
I’m surprised they spilled the beans on the new Aqualad’s powers this way. Although they established his mother is Aquaman’s retconned sister in law Siren and poppa is Black Manta, I don’t think we’d seen all his powers in action in Brightest Day yet – or if we have, I hadn’t caught the lightning part of it as something he was doing too. He has powers from BOTH parents? I thought Black Manta wore a powersuit until Nekron amped him up?
Not that i mind a super sausage-fest, but where are the girls? At the last moment, we meet Miss Martian who is Martian Manhunter’s NIECE?, um no she’s not… unless one of his long dead siblings was a white martian lover. I doubt it. I think Mars was pretty racist. I wonder if this will be addressed in a future episode? We noticeably did NOT meet Artemis. Thoughts? is she Arrowette renamed or Artemis of Bana Mighdall?
FYI – I tried a free program called YouTube Downloader to grab em for myself. Came in quite handy tonight! The program seems like dream come true – please let me know if you know otherwise.
This is the 4th Superboy ongoing series from Dc and the second to star Conner Kent (his first run on Superboy ran from 1993 to 2002. Since Conner Kent established his place in the Superman mythos, it was obvious that Metropolis wasn’t really big enough for the both of them, so it was a natural fit to ship Conner off to the Kent farm in Smallville.
But this is a Smallville you’ve never seen – one that even Superman doesn’t know about. What are the mysteries surrounding the town and beneath the surface, and what do they hold in store for Superboy? Only one way to find out. Check out some pages from the first issue below, stay tuned to The Source for more from Jeff Lemire on the series and pick up SUPERBOY #1, which goes on sale 11/3.
Hmm – let’s hope this new mysterious Smallville doesn’t have anything to do with local teens being empowered by strange “meteor rocks.” Nah. That’s just plain silly.
It is no secret that the Teen Titans book had been floundering of late, so it is also no surprise that DC has taken the writer from one of the hottest books out of Blackest Night and teamed him with a superstar artist to relight the spark of this once great team. I’m (of course) a big time fan of the New Teen Titans from the 80′s but I also really enjoyed Geoff John’s reboot of the book until about the time Superboy and Impulse were killed off in other titles. But they’ve both been back for awhile – so why did this book still suck? No Robin. As much as I’d like to see Tim Drake back with the team, Damien is even better.
It’s here! A new day dawns for the Teen Titans, brought to you by the dynamic duo of J.T. Krul (GREEN ARROW, BLACKEST NIGHT: TITANS) and Nicola Scott (WONDER WOMAN, SECRET SIX)! Packed with action, steeped in emotion and featuring your favorite heroes, TEEN TITANS is ready to explode off the racks!
Starting right here, the team finds itself pushed in new directions and brought to new heights while also rediscovering its roots. With the rise of a mysterious new threat called the Feral Boys, Superboy, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Raven, Beast Boy and the newly returned Ravager will have the chance to rebuild their camaraderie in the face of all that might endanger it. But if they discover the truth behind the Feral Boys, will they be able to stand together to face it? Find out here as the new era of the Teen Titans begins in this perfect jumping-on-point issue!
Besides the amazing artistic team, there are two details about this new line-up that really pique my interest… #1 The return of Ravager to the fold ! YAY! and #2 something I’ve been anticipating since the characters as first introduced – the always irascible and occasionally homicidal Damien Wayne as Robin of the Teen Titans. Add to that the impending arrival and inevitable acceptance of the new Aqualad and we really have a truly modern interpretation of the classic Teen Titans roster. I like it. This REALLY is the first promise this title has shown in AGES. Hmmm So who’s the glowing girl we see in the teaser image? Thoughts?

Longtime readers remember how excited I was when DC used Legion of 3 Worlds to resurrect Conner Kent after his premature death in Infinite Crisis AND how happy I was to see him featured in the pages of Adventure Comics. Well now I have reason to cheer again as November will mark the launch of the 4th volume of Superboy as an ongoing series. The title will continue to chronicle the adventures of Conner Kent the teen of steel in Superman’s home town of Smallville.
Superboy is back in a brand-new ongoing series! Join Jeff Lemire (SWEET TOOTH) and amazing up-and-coming artist Pier Gallo as they take Superboy on a journey to a side of Smallville not even Superman knows about!
What mysteries lurk beneath the surface of this all-American town – and what are their direct ties to Superboy? The start of the next great DC Universe epic begins right here!
The first Superboy title ran from 1949 to 1977 before becoming Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes until he left the team and the title in 1979. The second volume (based on the TV show of the time) ran from 1988 to 1992. Conner Kent (Kon-el) debuted during the Death of Superman storyline (in Adventures of Superman #500 – June 1993) and was soon the star of a 3rd ongoing Superboy title which ran from 1993 to 2002.
Just a little over a month until Conner flys back into present continuity!!!
It’s the return of one of DC Comics’ longest running books and one of its greatest modern-day heroes – Conner Kent! In our first heroic issue, Superboy can’t wait to jump back into his life – but which life will it be? With a clarity he’s never had before, Conner makes a beeline for the greatest place on Earth…Smallville?
