So what will she do next? Sounds like Nick Fury Agent of Nothing is going to be getting some face time with his old flame, former S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Contessa Valentina Allegra De La Fontaine and will soon become aware of her true allegiances.
Nick Fury comes face-to-face with his greatest betrayal in this all-important issue of Secret Warriors. Break-ups, hook-ups and more! It’s Sex and the City meets Reservoir Dogs. It’s Sleepless in Seattle meets Full Metal Jacket. It’s part five of WAKE THE BEAST – featuring the secret history of Viper!
I know some people hate retconned stories, but I’m still loving this secret history of spying in the Marvel U. I’ve ALWAYS loved Nick Fury, so its really great to see him back in action. AND Yes I’m still hoping the writers will eventually reveal Stonewall is a card carrying “friend of Northstar.”

Although this issue is primarily a peek into the history of the Gorgon, we’re also treated to a bit of characterization as Stonewall takes YoYo to visit her home for the first time since losing her arms and having them replaced with cybernetic ones. From the conversation before she went in, it seems like whatever they are, Stonewall’s secrets may be “coming out” soon. Still keeping my fingers crossed on him playing for OUR team.
One month later. Nick Fury’s got an army. Hydra goes to war. Leviathan reveals itself. Things heat up and Young Gun Stefano Caselli returns to knock it out of the park!
I think whatever Nick Fury has been cooking up since #1, his plans are starting to come together. We should be treated to something epic soon.

Now I’m sure I’m just reading into this because I overheard a porn producer saying the EXACT same thing to this one really hot jockstrap-clad gogo boy the other night… I swear!

I know there once was a Mrs. Dugan, but a man has needs and she’s been dead awhile. He could be a late bloomer. Ol’ Dum Dum might as well have sauntered up to Stonewall with that mini leather daddy mustache of his wearing assless leather chaps and a bowler hat saying “hey there boy. You, the tall shirtless one in the tight leather pants and riveted opera gloves. I like the cut of yer jib.”
I think the writers are just fucking with us at this point. First they give him the name Stonewall and that beefcake costume, keep him practically mute and now this? Is this a tease, a completely innocent post battle male-bonding moment or the beginning of a May/December romance? Yeah It’s probably B, but It still made me laugh.
And speaking of teases – here’s a completely gratuitous sketch of Stonewall from Secret Warrior artist Stefano Caselli.

Can’t wait to see how this rumble shakes down. I have to admit I’m STILL hoping a closet door will swing open and Stonewall will step on out, but even if he ends up being a bigger womanizer than a drunken Tony Stark I’m still enjoying the ride.
The shocking conclusion to the earth-shattering first arc of Marvel’s coolest new series in years! It’s the ultimate Marvel super-hero spy experience. No one is safe! Don’t believe everything you’ve been told! You will be lied to!

I’m loving this series – I just hope that Stonewall actually SAYS SOMETHING soon. They are taking the strong silent type thing WAAAAY to seriously.
The most talked about new Marvel series rolls on as we find out the answer to the question: What happened to all the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
Plus, Daisy Johnson recruits a new member to replace a fallen comrade, the kids spy on Nick Fury and we follow the Colonel as he starts his one man war against the endless hordes of HYDRA.
hmmm… whose that with Gateway? Our new recruit perhaps? This issue also sees the face-to-face reunion of Nick Fury and his old Howling Commando war buddy and longtime ally, Timothy Aloysius Cadwallader “Dum Dum” Dugan (freshly back from Skrull captivity).

After last issue’s shocker that Hydra ran S.H.I.E.L.D. all along Nick Fury (Agent of Nothing) has his work cut out for him. How can he and his hand picked team defeat an evil organization so vast and powerful that it has controlled the forces of order from behind the scenes for decades without anyone even suspecting anything? Is Stonewall gay? By the way… I’m not going to stop asking that until he shows some kind of inclination in either direction.
The most talked-about new Marvel series continues as HYDRA’s plans pick up speed while more remnants of S.H.I.E.L.D. fall. Nick Fury reconnects with an old colleague and finds out that the balance has shifted between him and some of his former soldiers. All that, and the Warriors suffer their first casualty of war.
If you haven’t been reading this, pick it up. It is definitely one of the best titles Marvel has going right now (and that is saying a lot as they have a surprising number of quality new series staring up).

I have been eagerly anticipating this series since I first heard of it. And NO not just because I am convinced Stonewall (Jerry Sledge) will be our big gay powerhouse. I am a longtime Nick Fury fan and was overjoyed to see him return to the Marvel consciousness in Secret Invasion and even more psyched to see him spin out in a new series with a new group of young heroes. Aside from overdoing the strong silent type thing with Jerry, I for one, am thoroughly enjoying the ride.
Picking up from the earth-shattering conclusion to issue one… we find out who Nick Fury and his Secret Warriors”” real enemies are, where they””ve been hiding, and why they chose now to make their existence known. Get ready, this is going to send shock-waves that will ripple throughout the Marvel Universe. Hail Hydra!

From Jerry Sledge’s introduction (he was in jail for some trouble that involved a date and a cop when Daisy found him), we know he has a story to tell. But we didn’t hear any of it in the 1st issue of Secret Warriors.
They took the “Strong Silent Type” thing a little TOO seriously. He didn’t utter a word in the issue – not even a battle quip. Everyone ELSE had a few lines, even Phobos who was off playing video games. But maybe that’s a good sign – most gay characters in comics tend to be a bit invisible anyway. Look at Obsidian if you can find him now that Manhunter is canceled.
I’d been anticipating the first issue of Secret Warriors since we were first introduced to Jerry Sledge as we were clued into Nick Fury’s plan against the Secret Invasion. If the name Stonewall were not enough to make me suspect him as a “friend of Northstar“, advance shots of him in costume (shirtless muscle hunk tough guy with leather opera gloves) definitely had me thinking/hoping he’ll eventually be revealed as gay.

Why isn’t there ever a gay male powerhouse? Sure we’ve have some power kickass lesbians…(Knockout, Scandal, Question, Batwoman, Phyla, Moondragon). Wouldn’t it be nice if for a change the gay GUY isn’t someone who can fly away real fast (Northstar), someone who turns invisible (Anole) or someone who is completely powerless in direct sunlight (Graymalkin).
What if the gay character on the team was the big bad tough guy?!?!?! What if someone created such a character and stuck with him, making him a real part of the continuity of one of the big two and not just a token character tossed into group battles during crossovers? Might a new generation of straight comic readers see past stereotypes? Might a new generation of gay comic readers have a strong role model?
The closest we’ve seen to this type of character is Hulkling or Apollo and the Midnighter from The Authority. Thus far Hulkling’s portrayal has been good (and I love that we have portrayals of young gays coming out and falling in love, but would like to see some new gay characters outside the recently popular teen demographic. Even a gay character as powerful as Apollo still ends up beaten, raped and left a victim. Midnighter is really the closest we have to a true gay badass, but a rolemodel? I don’t think so.
Lets hope that the powers that be at Marvel know what they are doing. And that they remember Stonewall is more than a lame character from the Freedom Force.

MySpaceComicBooks had a couple of pages from the upcoming Secret Warriors series (in addition to the ones that were published in Dark Reign #1 which I’ve also included).
Secret Invasion is over.
One man knows that in this new world – this darker now – the ideals he once served are broken relics of a greater generation… they are no more.
He knows his government can no longer be trusted, nor can any country or corporation. And no longer are heroes or vigilantes willing to do what is necessary – to do what it takes to make things right.
He knows this.
So he is moving all his pieces into place. He is assembling the players, and he is fully aware of the stakes… He knows what it will cost and he alone is willing to pay it.
Nick Fury has returned… and he has a plan.
I’m sticking to my prediction that Stonewall will be a friend of Dorothy. He’s a 7 foot shirtless muscle hunk wearing leather opera gloves! Keeping my fingers crossed for a strong, heroic, out gay powerhouse in the Marvel U. Plus he IS named Stonewall…
Even a die hard Metrosexual wouldn’t adventure in that unless it was Halloween or he was auditioning for a Rufskin modeling gig. Even Northstar would think it was too gay a costume. Not that I’m complaining – it suits him.

Hmmm. Now Marvel knows people gossip and make jokes often… in fact they make a few themselves such as changing As(s)guardian to Wiccan after he came out. Which leads me to wonder… Would they name Jerry Sledge, who is a big strong shirtless beefcake character “Stonewall” and NOT make him gay? I hope not. The Marvel Universe could use a few more of us. I hope his comment isn’t a ‘phobe joke. Having a character like the new Stonewall be gay could be a wonderful effort on Marvel’s part to give gay youth a hero.

I’m going on the new sobriquet and some pronoun confusion I vaguely remember from his first jail cell appearance (cannot find the issue at the moment – will keep looking and perhaps update this article). But if you have that issue and a scanner – send me a 450 pixel wide image of Daisy getting Stonewall outta jail! I’ll give you a shout out.
Just in case some of you have NO idea why I might think the name suggests he’s one of us… read all about the 1969 the Stonewall Riots and thank your predecessors for our strides in Pride since then.
There was a previous Marvel character named Stonewall who was part of the “Freedom Force” (X-men foes Brotherhood of Evil Mutants as government flunkies + a few hero stooges from the 50’s), but he’s dead.
