Secret Six has been one of the consistently surprising titles in my buy pile. I hope they don’t deviat TOO much from the group we’ve had since the beginning… I liked the addition of Black Alice, but I don’t know how much I’d follow a team with the likes of Dwarfstar and Lady Vic.
This is the showdown you’ve been waiting for, as two Secret Six teams head for a nasty collision, courtesy of writer Gail Simone and artist J. Calafiore. Who is left standing, and will there even be a Secret Six when the dust settles? Bad guy guests galore in this turning point issue.
When the smoke clears after “The Reptile Brain” (whats up with that name for the story arc?) I hope we’ll still have much of the same gang. I wouldn’t mind seeing Giganta stick around. The

Fan Favorite writer Gail Simone is ending her lengthy run on Wonder Woman. There is no word as of yet who will be taking over as writer for the amazing amazon, but Gail has a mouthful about her mystery successor… She said she was “genuinely thrilled by who is taking over the book,” assures us that the new writer will rock this book like there’s no tomorrow” and adds “people are going to freak and that makes me smile a lot.”
I hope whoever it is (stay tuned) will keep Achilles and Patrick Cleese (Patroclus) around. I want to see that relationship develop and will be severely disappointed if the new team lets them languish in literary limbo.
UPDATE: former Rising Stars creator J. Michael Straczynski will be lead writer on not only Wonder Woman but Superman as well.
She reunites with Secret Six artist Nicola Scott for her final WW story arc in Wonder Woman #42 (a 3 part story about “a big, crazy invasion story featuring the return of someone from WW history”), ending her tenure on the book with issue #45, but will also contribute to the newly renumbered Wonder Woman #600 (which would be #45). She also revealed that a life-long dream of hers “comes true in WONDER WOMAN #600″
I’ve looked through an archive of Wonder Woman’s foes and there aren’t many alien females listed… two I noticed were Eviless and Badra but they are pretty obscure. Any guesses on Gail’s last pick for a big bad to go up against Princess Diana?
But fans should fear not! Big things are afoot for Gail Simone… Not only will she be continuing on with her fantastic work on Secret Six and is coming full-circle at DC by reteaming with artist Ed Benes on Birds of Prey (the book that marked her big start with the publisher), but she’s also penning a new Welcome to Tranquility mini due in July!

With the Scandal Savage alone at Secret Six HQ against Amanda Waller‘s forces and Catman, Rag Doll, Bane, Black Alice, Deadshot and Jeanette at the throats of the deadly Suicide Squad, with a throng of Black Lanterns prepared to wipe them all out, who wins? We do! Secret Six #18 wraps up the Blackest Night crossover and prepares the way for what comes next…
It’s the exciting conclusion of John Ostrander and Gail Simone’s epic team-up! The Black Lanterns have both the Suicide Squad and the Secret Six up against the wall. But Amanda Waller always has a plan. That plan: Manhunter!
Plus, Deadshot is forced to make the decision of his life!
Its been cool to see the Suicide Squad again, but I’m looking more forward to #19 with the return of Cheshire… Roy got Lian, so has Chesire made another love-child?

Secret Six writer Gail Simone is bringing another of her own creations into the mix. Goth teen magic mimic Lori Zechlin a.k.a. Black Alice first appeared in her series Birds of Prey (#76 January 2005) and now she’s forcing her way into Secret Six. Apparently one member is thinking about leaving and Black Alice shows up and decides she’s going to be on the team whether they want her there or not. She DOES has a history of being a bit difficult.
This could be interesting. I’d hate to see any of the members leave but Catman, Deadshot, Jeanette, Bane, Ragdoll and Black Alice might make an interesting line-up? I’d like to see Black Alice stick around a bit. I want to know more about the fact that DNA tests reveal she’s Misfit’s half-sister. Maybe Scandal might run off with Artemis for a romantic yet ass-kicking lesbian miniseries and make some room on the team? She has a thing for strong redheads. Issue 16 sports another painted cover by Daniel Lu Visi and interior art by Dale Eaglesham.

Secret Six continues to be one of the best titles out there. Anyone who loves the hidden corners of the DCU and is disappointed with the lazy writing in Cry for Justice should definitely pick up some of the Secret Six trades and catch up for this arc.
War is declared on the new Devil’s Island, and the Secret Six are facing off against themselves. On opposite sides and ready to die — or kill! — for their causes, the Six are in a tight spot. But what are they fighting over that’s strong — and brutal — enough to take down Wonder Woman herself? Only Gail Simone and artist Nicola Scott know. But the preview pages below will give you a hint.
There REALLY aren’t that many titles that keep me guessing while still managing to make the surprises perfectly logical in relation to subtle hints previously dropped. Gail Simone is rocking this title.
Gail is taking an issue off after #14 (the Depths conclusion). Issue # 15 will be guest written by John Ostrander – who contrary to popular belief did not create the character of Deadshot – he just “made him awesome.”
But don’t worry – Gail will be back at the helm for issue #16 – She has a very special guest star planned… more on that shortly!

Secret Six is definitely one of the best antihero books I’ve ever come across. The shining heroic glory of the DCU pantheon often overshadows the myriad of fascinating characters that oppose them. Writer Gail Simone has really given this title a wonderful insight into the depraved mind of a “villain.”
A crisis of conscience splits the Secret Six right down the middle and puts them on opposite sides of a horrific war involving Amazons led by a deluded Artemis!
Umm so Artemis ISN’T dead then? With her experience as a warrior, Diana should REALLY be a better judge of a corpse.
But that’s just the opening bout for the main event… for the icing on the cake, folks: Jeannette and Wonder Woman step into the ring for an all-out brawl
These bad boys (Catman, Deadshot and Bane) are looking as hot as ever – Thank you Nicola Scott for all the comic book beefcake you provide monthly. Keep up the equal opportunity objectification!

UPDATE: I’ve read it and there is a major reveal of something they’ve TOTALLY hinted at (so obviously now that I think about it that I cannot believe it didn’t occur to me before). I expose the truth after the jump so don’t comment or read the rest of this entry until you’ve read the issue!

This might be worth the cover price just for the Bane beefcake alone… Secret Six is consistently one of my favorites reads each month. It’s dark, funny and action packed with lots of gratuitous well-muscled male flesh… What more do you want from a title? Pick it up already.
Where have all the forgotten heroes and villains of the DCU been? The Six are blackmailed by someone claiming to be their old boss, Mockingbird, into a brand-new mission taking them into the heart of the metahuman slave trade! And former Wonder Woman Artemis returns in the most brutal Secret Six story yet! Find out why Wizard Magazine says, “If you’re not reading this book, you should be.”

Not one, but two members of the Secret Six feel they deserve to wear Batman’s cowl, and they return to Gotham City with a semi-delusional Ragdoll determined to be the new Boy Wonder! Unfortunately, everybody in Gotham has other plans!

With the revelation that the prize in question is a “Get Out of Hell Free” card possible created by Neron (the DCU’s head demon) himself our (anti) heroes find themselves the target every villain at large as well as at each others throats. Can they pull it together long enough so we can find out who is the mystery blonde that they are meeting in Vegas? Any Guesses?

I LOVED the first issue and am eagerly anticipating the second. The Six are about to undertake a mission SO dangerous that Batman himself is trying to warn them off. But have you ever known a bunch of mavericks like the Secret Six to take advice from the Man? Lets hope the boys of the Six are looking as hot and gratuitously naked as last issue…
Written by Gail Simone; Art by Nicola Scott and Doug Hazlewood; Cover by Cliff Chiang One of the most-requested and anticipated confrontations in recent DC history takes place right here: Catman vs. Batman! The Six’s latest mission takes the team to Alcatraz to free a Super-Villain, but what is the secret she carries that hundreds of villains would give their lives to possess? DC’s dirtiest team only gets dirtier, and we wouldn’t want it any other way!

The Secret Six miniseries was so interesting that we get a new monthly! Just what I need, ANOTHER comic book I like. I need a sugar daddy to afford to review all these. What happened to the good old days when they were 35 cents? Oh yeah…
