With the the chaos that the Skrull invasion left in its wake and a psychopath such as Norman Osborn a.k.a. the Green Goblin now holding the keys to the kingdom, the need for a group of rogue Avengers operating outside the rules is even more urgent. Superhero registration was bad enough with Tony Stark in charge. If Norman plans on running the superpowered assets of the United States the same way he ran the Thunderbolts, these New Avengers will have their hands full. But Who are they?
The Invasion is over! But who are the New Avengers!??! The first major roster change since the very first issue!! See here who the New Avengers are and what their place in the Dark Reign is!

In case you haven’t been paying attention, the forces for order/good in Marvel Universe (including the Avengers) are now being run by the Green Fricking Goblin. Not good. Since his first act of power is to call Doc Doom, Namor, Loki, the Hood and the White Queen together at Avenger Tower to let them know what they can get away with under his rule, we can assume that isn’t going to be business as usual for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Where is Don LaFontaine when you need him? What? Oh Really? Oh that’s too bad, my condolences. But surely there’s someone better than whoever did that.
With the 50 State Initiative exposed as a Skrull Plot and Tony Stark’s S.H.I.E.L.D. out in place of Normon Osborne’s H.A.M.M.E.R. (my eternal gratitude to whoever tells me what the acronym means), what is to happen to the superhuman trainees and instructors? What’s next? Is anyone keeping an eye on that Thor Clone? and Who is Mutant Zero anyway? All these questions and more answered in “The Initiative Disassembled”. Read all about it at Newsarama’s interview with “former Initiative co-writer, and soon to be full-time writer, Christos Gage.”
New Avengers: The Reunion is a four issue miniseries coming in March, with words by Jim McCann and art by David Lopez.
“But do she and Hawkeye/Ronin stand reunited as a couple? Is this the reunion they hoped for? And just why is Bobbi Morse back now? Answers will come and more mysteries begin in the prologue in “Dark Reign: New Nation,” on sale December 17, and continue in New Avengers: The Reunion”
Apparently Mockingbird now fights crime in a thong while standing in the customary contortionist cheesecake pose showing off her ass, rack and face all at the same time. Also where is her right tunic sleeve?
I have nothing against a strong woman looking hot (you GO Bobbi!), but she’s blocking Clint’s well muscled forearms. C’mon give the fangirls and gay fanboys SOMETHING! Whatever happened to equal opportunity sexual exploitation?

Well the Skrulls may be beaten, but baby Cage is still missing and in the aftermath, it seems like the DCU isn’t the only comic book reality where evil has won. More on that later in my Secret Invasion spotlight (in a few days so y’all have time to read your issues and I don’t spoil anything). Following on the heels of Secret Invasion is another major event crossover – Dark Reign! Or is it just the new status quo of the Marvel U? They figure if DC is going dark, they will get darker. Whether or not it works remains to be seen, but I’m paying attention….
Lets all have a moment of silence for Janet Van Dyne a.k.a. the Wasp… Who will design the Avengers new outfits and drive Wanda back over the edge when she gets back?

Of the thousands and thousands of heroes and humans affected by the Skrull invasion, one man’s horror and heartbreak rises above the rest. This is the story of Luke Cage!
Who’s a Skrull? Jessica or the baby? Neither? Who didn’t tell Jessica that Jarvis was a Skrull and therefore NOT an appropriate baby sitter? If the baby ISN’T a Skrull, what does Jarvis want with it?

Even with their new Super-Skrull forces, the Skrulls are reduced to fighting like cowards. Unable to cope with the X-Men’s guerrilla tactics, the damned dirty Skrulls have taken thousands of San Franciscans hostage and the X-Men have minutes to decide id they can/will be just as ruthless…

The hunt for Black Bolt concludes – launching the Inhumans into their new destiny in the Marvel Universe! It’s sister vs. sister, cousin vs. cousin, Kree vs. Skrull! The loyalty lines are redrawn within the royal family as the Inhumans’ mission reaches critical mass! Can Medusa and her tribe get it together to save their once and future King? Or has it all been for nothing? The seeds for the WAR OF KINGS are planted right here!
I was enjoying this, but not all that into the bikini catfight aspect of the story – seems gratuitous. I am interested what kind of fallout will result from this Inhuman alliance with the Kree.

Is your enemy’s enemy really always your friend? Medusa seeks out the Kree to help take on the Skrulls in #3 of 4. This epic miniseries will not only decide the fate of Black Bolt but also lead into Marvel’s plans for the Inhumans in 2009.

If you’ve been wondering what happened to all the Skrull impostors during House of M, New Avengers #45 is the backstory for you. Looks like the Skrull empress seems aware of the change in reality…
To all of Earth, we are the alien race you know as Skrulls. We wish to offer a few words to you about recent events. You have so much potential. You have so much to offer. Your future can be bright and without war, poverty, and fear. All you have to do is let us help. We come not as an alien armada. We are not invading your lands as conquerors. We are here to help you. We can cure all that is wasting this world. We bring with us a message, one that can be easily translated into any language. Please share this with your brothers and sisters, for it is a simple message that can help us all in the days to come: EMBRACE CHANGE.
To learn more about our message, please visit our web site. There you will find the tools to help create a better tomorrow. You will find the path to Embrace Change.
Last night we made our appeal to you on ESPN2. Today, MTV embraces the change that we offer and have chosen to re-air our groundbreaking television commercial.
With those simple words, and the actions that they entail, all can be resolved. We can finally put an end to aggression, violence, and strife. Remember, He loves you all so very much.
The Skrulls are a displaced race of aliens, whose homeworld has been destroyed, and have come to Earth as part of their prophecy that the Earth is their planet by divine right. With the ability to mimic any human, language, or power, these shape-changers have resources of over 5,000 characteristics, and are focused on utilizing these to bring forward a message of change to those around the world. Areas of emphasis include containing disease, disarmament of all countries, elimination of international debts and poverty, food and shelter for all citizens, and cessation of bigotry and violence.
Rooted in their scriptures, theirs is a belief of change and the knowledge that “He” loves you. Their current advances into Earth have been chronicled by Eisner Award-Winning writer Brian Michael Bendis, and rendered by artists Leinil Francis Yu, Mark Morales, and Laura Martin and published by Marvel Comics. Although their actions seem skewed through these Earthlings’ lenses, the Skrulls’ strategy is to leverage its message of change in a growing array of opportunities around the world.

According to their own tight-lipped precog, this team’s days are numbered. I hope they manage to prove her wrong. Paul Pelletier’s beautiful artwork seems to get better with ever title he touches and he was already brilliant when he did Superboy and the Ravers. But I want to see him stick around for 60 issues or so.

Can the divided teams reunite and conquer the Skrulls? Can Hulking fulfill the prophecy and become a Skrull messiah? What will become of Xavin after the dust settles in this concluding chapter?

Marvel’s mutants recent mass exodus to the bay area took the San Francisco Skrulls by surprise, but they’ve brought in some reinforcements who they THINK can handle the X-Men. Smart money is on the mutants.
