Superhot Fanboys of SDCC…

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Every year a fresh throng of costumed geeks descends upon San Diego. Most of them are scantily clad women, but a few of the guys were looking pretty sexy this year. My personal favorite is Rocketboy (a model hired to promote a new comic series). The Gay Comic Geek and his boyfriend Steve look Marvelous and The sexy Hawk and Dove look awesome as well. If you were there and have any hot shots of fanboys in spandex, send them to fanboi@heroesnhunks.com

By the way, nice package Dove.

More news out of SDCC… At long last, Cloak & Dagger are back in the pages of their own book! Valerie D’Orazio teams with artist Irene Flores to bring us a new Cloak and Dagger miniseries. She promised to explore the “complicated relationship” between Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen.

From the look of the magenta-tressed mystery woman and the sound of the verbal teases she put out there at SDCC… “The brighter the light, the darker the shadow.” Or, “Two’s company, and three’s a crowd,” I would hazard to guess D’Orazio is throwing in someone to turn our twosome into a triangle.

In some of the biggest news of SDCC, DC Comics has announced that Neil Gaiman, famed English author of novels, comic books and films (including: Neverwhere, American Gods, Anansi Boys, Vertigo’s The Sandman, The Books of Magic and Black Orchid, as well as Stardust and MirrorMask) will team with Andy Kubert to bring us “Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?”. The story will told this January in two slightly oversize issues - one issue of Batman and one of Detective Comics.

The Legion of Super Heroes is coming to Smallville! I for one cannot believe it took this long to get the only superheroes who ACTUALLY did visit Smallville (in comics continuity) on the show! For those who didn’t know the only “superheroes” that visited Smallville, Kansas while Clark was Superboy in DC Comics continuity were Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad and Cosmic Boy, the founders of the Legion of Super Heroes from the 31st century. Geoff Johns (author of the eagerly anticipated Legion of 3 Worlds miniseries with art by George Perez) will be writing the episode!

DC Direct finally unveiled their verison of omnipotent Watchmen beefcake Doctor Manhattan in both statue AND action figure form at 2008 SDCC. I’m not surprised they chose to go with his black speedo instead of capturing his later free balling phase for posterity.

Read the spoilerific Newsarama article if you like. I only read up to the spoilers, but thought I should share anyway… So don’t tell me about it - I’m counting the days until it airs.

if this episode is a good indication of what we can expect, then it looks like the show has regained its footing and returned to the epic storytelling that made it a phenomena in its first year.

the entire cast of Heroes — Masi Oka (Hiro), Hayden Panettiere (Claire), Adrian Pasdar (Nathan), Milo Ventimiglia (Peter), Greg Grunberg (Matt), Ali Larter (Niki), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Suresh), Zachary Quinto (Sylar), James Kyson Lee (Ando), Jack Coleman (HRG), Dania Ramirez (Maya), and creator Tim Kring (along with artist Tim Sale) were a bit late due to traffic from LA, but held a Q&A session after the viewing of the Season 3 opener.

    Friday, July 25th, 2008

Stan Lee and Perry Moore have announced an official partnership. The exact nature of what the partnership is to produce (Feature Film, TV show, Comic Book, Graphic novel) has yet to be revealed, but Stan Lee waltzed into the Comic-Con International: San Diego panel “LGBT Portrayals in Comics and embraced Perry Moore. Moore’s novel, “Hero, published by Hyperion in August 2007, won the Lambda Literary Award in 2008 for best LGBT Children’s/Young Adult novel. Moore is also executive producer of Disney’s Narnia film series.”

Be sure to read Moore’s EXCELLENT article “WHO CARES ABOUT THE DEATH OF A GAY SUPERHERO ANYWAY?: A HISTORY OF GAYS IN COMIC BOOKS” which lists the many strong LGBT characters in comics needlessly maimed, depowered or killed for no reason.

    Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Collectors of the stylized JLU inspired action figures really have something to look forward to at SDCC. A planned SDCC exclusive of the size-altering villainess contains not only a regular sized (4 3/4″) Giganta in scale with the other JLU figures, but also an enlarged version (8″) so she can tower over her cohorts in the Legion of Doom. Now if they would only make a Giganta for the regular DCD line, and one in the Alex Ross style for the Justice line, everyone would be happy.
