I’ve been a fan of the Imperial Guard since I first read about them back in the original Dark Phoenix Saga. They fought the X-Men to a standstill with the fate of Jean Grey in the balance, giving them a special place in my memory ever since.
Gladiator is emperor of the Shi’Ar! His squadron, the Imperial Guard, is the ultimate law! But what is it like to live and work in this infamous legion as they attempt to keep their empire from disintegrating into the chaos of civil war.
Just as the Squadron Supreme was a Marvel homage to the Justice League, the Imperial Guard was created as a thinly veiled version of the 70’s Legion of Super Heroes. I’m excited to see what it’s like to be one of Gladiator’s The Imperial Guard during this time of great change in the outer Marvel Universe.
just look at the title and the creative team… nuff said really. I have a feeling that this title will REALLY earn the Max label so if you like your comic book violence with more blood-guts-n-gore and less cartoon anvils, this is for you.
An all-new ongoing series from the acclaimed team of Jason Aaron (WOLVERINE: WEAPON X) and Steve Dillon (PUNISHER: WELCOME BACK FRANK, PREACHER), two guys who were born to tell the exploits of Marvel’s most brutal vigilante. Wilson Fisk is a bodyguard for mob boss Don Rigoletto, but he has his eyes on a much bigger prize, and he’s gonna use Frank Castle to help him realize his dreams.
The biggest story in MAX history begins here, as we witness the birth of the greatest villain the Punisher has ever faced.
Where were you when the Stars returned? Planet Terry! Wally Wizard! Royal Roy! All in this issue. Plus: X-Babies in space and X-Babies versus…The Alpha-Bot!! Punching, Clawing, Blasting, Bamfing, Dancing, Magic and more…ALL in 32 fun-filled pages!
I previously admitted to liking the X-babies. I even kinda enjoyed the first issue. Not don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to see them running around the Marvel U, but every once in awhile they make a nice break. For example… I don’t think I could take an Ambush Bug monthly, but I like to laugh about his exploits every few years.

It’s been awhile since we the old rallying cry invoked the same nostalgic feelings. I’ve already said my peace about retconned characters, but it seems like The Unspoken is merely a means to an end… generic omega level threat to make it necessary to bring together all the Avengers.
As the epic battle with The Unspoken threatens all of Earth, the team-up you’ve been waiting for finally happens as members of the Mighty Avengers, New Avengers, Young Avengers, and the Avengers Initiative unite to fight a foe that no single hero could withstand! How can Marvel fit so many Avengers in one issue? Against the most powerful Inhuman of all, with the greatest weapon in history, do they have a choice? All that plus a special appearance by the Dark Avengers.
The following unlettered pages of Mighty Avengers #30 art accompanied CBR’s interview with author Dan Slott. It looks like quite an impressive group. I haven’t been so psyched to see the Avengers Assemble since George Perez’ recent run.
I’m also REALLY happy to see Wiccan and Hulkling showing up more often. As much as I want to see a regular Young Avengers title again, I also like seeing them do their heroic thing alongside the big boys. I’m hoping they’ll join the Mighty line-up on a regular basis – looking good on the cover of next issue along with the team.
I’m REALLY looking forward to Astonishing X-Men #31 this week. Out and proud comic art genius Phil Jimenez has long been one of my absolute favorites. He’s on a very short list with the likes of George Perez, Alex Ross, Bryan Hitch and Alan Davis. So having him as artist for Astonishing with Warren Ellis writing should be quite a ride.
Abigail Brand, director of S.W.O.R.D., has been in some sticky situations, and she isn’t the type who asks for help to get out of them. But when you’re careening towards Earth in the cockpit of a damaged spaceship after being attacked on an exploding asteroid 7.5 million miles from Earth…it’s time to call the X-Men.
They might not have much of a plan, or much of a chance, but that’s certainly never stopped them before. Superstar artist Phil Jimenez joins writer Warren Ellis for the second arc of the mind-bending ongoing series!
Looking forward to picking this up today… (among other things).
The high impact, critically acclaimed sci-fi epic rages towards its explosive climax! Last issue’s jaw-dropping cliffhanger has everyone scrambling! Vulcan’s once unbeatable and vast war machine is grinding to a halt! Black Bolt’s forces are struggling to survive! It’s all coming down to the final clash, king vs. king! But where will the other power players place their loyalty, and can anyone imagine a solution as extreme as the one Medusa is proposing? The Universe is about to change forever in what IGN.com calls “a veritable dream for science fiction/fantasy fans…War of Kings is event comics done right.”
His far-to-short stint onscreen as the doomed captain of the Federation starship USS Kelvin was more than enough to set many hearts (no to mention other organs) aflutter. This young man is going places… He already has 3 movies lined up to follow Star Trek (more on that below).
He’s handsome and sexy with a killer bod (though he may have to bulk up a bit to get to that somewhat imposing Deity-level Thunder God physique) – I’ll have to see him in a scene that lasts a bit longer than his fleeting Star Trek moment to judge if he is truly worthy to wield Mjolnir on the silver screen.
25 year old Hemsworth is 6′3″ and the middle child of 3. From 2004 to 2007, he played often-shirtless personal trainer/drama magnet Kim Hyde on 171 episodes of Home and Away, the successful Aussie TV series chronicling the lives and loves of the residents of Summer Bay, a small coastal town.
Hemsworth has since moved to LA and is currently shooting Drew Goddard and Josh Whedon’s horror flick, “The Cabin in the Woods” (by ) in Canada. Before he picks up the hammer of Thor, Hemsworth will tackle the leading role of Jed Eckert in a remake of the 1984 Patrick Swayze film, Red Dawn planned for release in 2010. He must have the ability to be in 2 places at once because he has also apparently been signed for A Perfect Getaway, starring alongside fellow Star Trek castmate Eric Bana.
Hemsworth appeared on the 5th season of the Australian version of the celebreality TV Show – Dancing with the Starswith Abbey Ross but they were the 6th pair eliminated.
UPDATE: British actor Tom Hiddleston has been case opposite Hemsworth as Thor’s adopted brother Loki – who has often been cast as the the God of Lies and a Trickster God – and in the Marvel Universe – it is not against type. His Machiavellian machinations have been behind a lot of evil, and probably even some inadvertent good. I’d make a gallery dedicated to him, but after google image searching him, he’s a bit creepy looking for my tastes (so find your own pics) – He’d make good casting for Secret Six’s Ragdoll too!
