X-Men: Magneto Testament #1

Today, the whole world knows him as Magneto, the most radical champion of mutant rights that mankind has ever seen. But in 1935, he was just another schoolboy — who happened to be Jewish in Nazi Germany. The definitive origin story of one of Marvel’s greatest icons begins with a silver chain and a crush on a girl — and quickly turns into a harrowing struggle for survival against the inexorable machinery of Hitler’s Final Solution. From “X-Men: Phoenix–Endsong” writer Greg Pak and award-winning artist Carmine Di Giandomenico.

Magik from Marvel Comic's Infernus Magik from the sketchbook of Giuseppe "Cammo" Camuncoli! Illyanna Rasputin from the sketchbook of Giuseppe "Cammo" Camuncoli! Pixie from the sketchbook of Giuseppe "Cammo" Camuncoli! The X-Men from the sketchbook of Giuseppe "Cammo" Camuncoli!

Magik is back with a vengeance! According to Marvel jack-of-all-trades C.B. Cebulski, X-Infernus actually started life as an Uncanny X-Men Annual that he and David Finch were planning, featuring the long-awaited return of beloved fan favorite Illyana “Magik” Rasputin. But David Finch was chosen as artist for Ultimatum with Jeph Loeb, he couldn’t say no, so the Magik Annual got put into Limbo so to speak. Given certain events that were happening in the current X-Universe, editor Nick Lowe resurrected the project. Lowe and Marvel Sales guru David Gabriel liked the overall concept so much they felt an Annual would be limiting, so they came up with the idea to turn it into a four issue mini-series with covers by David Finch.

  • Let Freedom Ring - until he is bashed to death

    Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

One of my favorite youTubers and mySpacersthe Gay Comic Geek has posted his review of the Marvel Team-Up Freedom Ring trade paperback. For those who don’t know, until he was killed off, Freedom Ring was a new gay superhero with the ability to alter reality with a 25 foot radius.

I’d been considering buying the trade paperback, but the violent way they unnecessarily killed the character really makes me not want to read it. Also I’m pretty sure I got the gist of his story from Crusader’s flashback montage in Avengers: Initiative. The the Gay Comic Geek and I see eye to eye on this one. Introducing gay characters isn’t progressive if they just become victims (Ok so Northstar ISN’T dead in Ultimate X-Men - they still crippled the freaking speedster - talk about cruel). I’m sick of it. I’m still REALLY hoping that the new Stonewall will be gay and become a model for a strong, heroic gay man.

  • Who is Lady Bullseye?

    Monday, September 1st, 2008

OK, since the 80’s we’ve seen Lady Mandarin, the Lady Mastermind, Miss Sinister, a teenaged female Kraven and now we get Lady Bullseye? Who wants to see the reverse? I want to see a new White King in a Speedo and thigh-high boots. I want to see Vampifella running around in a red thong. I want the a blond Enchanter to seduce some Assgardians in a green kilt and bustier. The only exception I can think of is MistiQ from New Exiles, but I dropped that after he introduced a blond cajun Gambit that was son of the Invisible woman and T’Challa the Sub Mariner. Why is it that turning a male character into a female one is so common but you rarely see the reverse.

Looks like her costume was designed by a horny straight guy. C’mon, what self-respecting killer assassin would or even could wear a hootchie-mama outfit like that into mortal combat. It must be painted on. And she must have VERY small nipples.

    Sunday, August 31st, 2008

You Defenders fans might have spotted Devil-Slayer on the Initiative’s Hawaii team and he was last seen teleporting the 3D man to Camp Hammond. From there he apparently loses his government connections and everything else… but gets a new series all his own.

Abandoned by his fiance, his family, his church, and his government, Sergeant Dan Sylva returns to Iraq for a third tour of duty — and a descent into Hell itself. If the demon Belathauzer and the mysterious mercenary group known as Bloodstone have their way, Iraq, the place where civilization began, may also be where civilization ends. The reinvented Devil-Slayer takes Marvel’s DEAD OF NIGHT to terrifying new heights, from award-winning horror novelist Brian Keene and artist Chris Samnee.
