I wasn’t as blown out of the water by issue #1 as I would have liked. It was OK. I think my expectations are a bit high as I was a HUGE fan of the original series – which started not that long after I started reading comics. Also they’ve shown us such amazingly beautiful covers that I found the interior art to be a merely adequate let-down.
“RETURN OF LEGION” One of the most dangerous X-Villains of all time is back and he’s targeted the New Mutants. Last time Legion reared his head, he created the Age of Apocalpyse. Do Cannonball, Karma, Magma, Moonstar and Magik have much hope of stopping him now?
I’m definitely going to give more than it a few more issues out of love for the characters – which I’m sure Marvel is counting on. I hope something truly great comes out of it. What did you guys think?

The saga of Magik’s return draws to a conclusion. Whatever Belasco’s daughter Witchfire has planned for Illyana’s power and Pixie’s soul, I’m sure it is not something the X-Men will enjoy. However it plays out, I am really glad to have our little snowflake back amongst the living for the upcoming New Mutants title. Yay Magik!!!! Plus I’m really enjoying the way Megan Gwynn has been pulled into the story. Pixie has a lot of potential.
The climactic conclusion to the winter X-Men event that everyone is talking about! The X-Men team that leaves to save Illyana from Limbo is not the same as the one that left. It’s X-Man vs. X-Man with all of their souls on the line.
UPDATE: Honestly they could have dressed up the oldest chestnut of a story and called it the return of Magik and I would have lined up to watch… and I did. I enjoyed the ride, but all in all it didn’t change her status much besides giving her human legs. Illyana still seeks redemption and is missing part of her soul… as is Pixie (who blames Illyana). I am SO on board for the continuation of Illyana’s story with her old buds in the pages of New Mutants #1.

Illyana’s story continues this week in X-Infernus #3 of 4.
The battle for Illyana Rasputin’s soul continues! Colossus leads the X-Men into Limbo, but does Illyana want them there? They’ll find out that her soul isn’t the only one on the line. And who is the mysterious woman who is changing the landscape of reality?
umm… the mysterious woman is “Belasco’s daughter, and former member of Gamma and Beta flight… Ananym a.k.a. Witchfire” – we’ve already established that. You have to keep up, these X-Men comics get complicated.

CBR has an interview with X-Infernus creative team C.B. Cebulski and artist Giuseppe Camuncoli. The pair answer many fan questions about Magik, the X-Men, the New X-Men and the New Mutants (who get mentioned A LOT… hmmm).
Notice the last cryptic image – it is a teaser for a new title that follows X-Infernus and reads “From The Flames of X-Infernus, A Team Is Reunited!” – who do the silhouettes look like to you? The 2 figures at upper left look like Magma and Wolfsbane to me… what do you think? With Magik back could the New Mutants be far behind?

Marvel has put up a great X-Infernus Saga online comic that covers Ilyana’s complete history – so if you haven’t read the classic tales of the X-Men in Limbo, now you can!

If you are a Magik fan like me, then you’ve been waiting with bells on for the next chapter in her return. Well wait no longer… She’s back in this week’s X-Infernus. CBR had a special treat with a double sized preview.
The X-Men promise to make this one of the hottest winters ever! When last we saw Darkchylde, she had claimed the throne of Limbo as her own. And now she’s determined to get her soul back, even if she has to conquer Earth in the process. Can the combined forces of the X-Men stop her rampage? They’ll have to fight through every demon in Limbo to try.
To catch up anyone who missed her reappearance in the pages of the now defunct (sniff sniff sob) New X-Men… During the reality altering House of M crossover, Illyanna Rasputin reappeared in limbo as the Darkchylde – well part of her did. She’s there in body and mind, but her soul is missing.
She took part of Pixie’s soul (making her magic adept enough for novice spells). And after she and the kids of the “New X-Men” kicked Belasco’s demon ass, she tried to regain her soul through love by reaching out to brother Piotr and BFF Kitty Pryde, but found only rubble where the X-Mansion stood leaving her only the path of anger.
When saw her in Divided We Stand, Ilyanna swore vengeance on those who wronged her. She means to replace her soul with their own. Question is, who does she blame, and can she be stopped?

Magik is back with a vengeance! According to Marvel jack-of-all-trades C.B. Cebulski, X-Infernus actually started life as an Uncanny X-Men Annual that he and David Finch were planning, featuring the long-awaited return of beloved fan favorite Illyana “Magik” Rasputin. But David Finch was chosen as artist for Ultimatum with Jeph Loeb, he couldn’t say no, so the Magik Annual got put into Limbo so to speak. Given certain events that were happening in the current X-Universe, editor Nick Lowe resurrected the project. Lowe and Marvel Sales guru David Gabriel liked the overall concept so much they felt an Annual would be limiting, so they came up with the idea to turn it into a four issue mini-series with covers by David Finch.
Sketches above are by just announced interior artist… Giuseppe “Cammo” Camuncoli!

OK, so its not exactly news Magik is back. She was last seen in New X-Men when after defeating Belasco, and sending her brother and the new X-Men kids away, Illyanna reclaimed the throne of Limbo and informed S’ym and N’astirh that her next move is to reclaim her soul (and perhaps the Soulsword?).
The issue also includes a story about Surge turning to Dani Moonstar after the X-Men disband, as well as stories about Forge and Beast. Whispers say there will be another surprise story like the unsolicited Hellion bonus tale from #1.
