Early tabulation of the popular vote resulted in Marvel Universe’s Daily Bugle prematurely calling the fictional Presidential election in the favor of Stephen Colbert, the bear-hating purveyor of “truthiness.” They even went as far as releasing the erroneous news on the front page.
New York City, November 5, 2008—The early results are in and the Daily Bugle is reporting that Stephen Colbert has won the United States Presidency in the Marvel Universe. While many states still have yet to report their numbers, Colbert is already claiming a victory.
But Colbert loving Marvelites will be disapointed to learn that in fact Stephen Colbert was defeated due to a lack of Electoral votes, meaning Barack Obama is President of the Marvel Universe’s United States as well as in our reality. I’m really glad that Obama won there too, (Might as well make comic book history as well as real history) but if was going to be anyone else, I would have wanted Stephen Colbert in every story about the President for the next 4 years,

Shirley Nagel of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich is the black-hearted tyrannical despot of her own front porch, but little else. She turned the revered seasonal holiday of Halloween into a political sideshow by refusing to offer candy to trick-or-treating children of Obama supporters. Going as far as turning away crying children, all she did was make herself and by association, her candidate, seem petty and small-minded. Stupid AND mean… she’s a catch fellas. Lets hear it for Mr. Nagel. His life must suck.
Lets hope her house is egged weekly for the next 4 years…

SNL brought the funny again last night with their 2nd of 3 Thursday night pre-election political specials. Not as funny as last week though. Really? Oh my god are you serious? remains hard to top.
The guys and gals at SNL have brought their political A game once again. Why can’t their regular sketches be this funny!!! I would LOVE to see a weekly weekend update in primetime. But to make that possible someone must clone Tina Fey. Anyone have a petrie dish and some of her DNA?
I’m so glad there are people in news and entertainment who are more than willing to cut through the web of lies spun by the McCain/Palin machine.
Oct. 6: Countdown’s Keith Olbermann points out in a Special Comment that while John McCain might want to use Sarah Palin to hit Barack Obama below the belt and accuse him of terrorist associations, he overlooked the unfortunate fact that “pallin’ around with terrorists” is one area where Palin has more experience.
I just worry that the demographic that McCain/Palin are targeting with their lies are unlikely to see any of the outlets speaking the truth. They don’t change the channel from FOX News.
IDW Publishing has provided ComicBookResources previews of their thoroughly researched comic book biographies of the two leading candidates for President of the United States, Senators Barack Obama and John McCain. “Presidential Material: Barack Obama” and “Presidential Material: John McCain” will be on sale October 8.
Barack Obama’s biography comes courtesy of writer Jeff Mariotte (“Angel: Old Friends”) and artist Tom Morgan. John McCain’s is written by comics veteran Andy Helfer — who’s also written biographies of Malcom X and Ronald Regan — with artwork by Stephen Thompson (“Star Trek: New Frontier”). Cover artwork is provided by comics superstar J. Scott Campbell.
It makes you a target. Flake on him and you will feel the sharp barb of his wit… over and over. McCain should have known better. but then again, there seem to be a FEW things he should have know better.
Actress and writer Carrie Fisher (of Star Wars fame) talks to AMERICAblog’s John Aravosis and Joe Sudbay about George Bush, John McCain and Sarah Palin. She includes a true story about how George Bush likes to fart in public, on command.

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds attempts to defend the lies in his candidate’s latest attack ads. News anchors, Megyn Kelly at FOX news and Norah O’Donnell at MSNBC both embraced Amy Poehler’s heartfelt message as Hillary Clinton. I hope we see more people following suite, especially when it comes to the hyper-conservative Sarah Palin.

Known political photographer and committed democrat Jill Greenberg was commissioned by The Atlantic to do a “heroic” cover shoot of Republican presidential nominee John McCain for its October 2008 issue. In addition to capturing the image the client asked for, Ms. Greenberg also took a few snaps of her own.
Greenberg gloated over how she tricked McCain… McCain was asked to “please come over here” for one more set-up before the 15-minute shoot was over. There, she had a beauty dish with a modeling light set up. “That’s what he thought he was being lit by,” Greenberg says. “But that wasn’t firing.”
What was firing was a strobe positioned below him, which cast the horror movie shadows across his face and on the wall right behind him. “He had no idea he was being lit from below,” Greenberg says.
I have to agree setting a trap for a candidate isn’t very professional, but it IS pretty damned funny. Atlantic Monthly was far from amused though. Editor James Bennet has gone on record as saying Greenberg has “disgraced herself” with her “Incredibly unprofessional” behavior. He also said she “has violated the terms of our agreement” and the magazine is considering a lawsuit.
Barbara Walters pressed him on his specific reforms, Joy Behar made the accusation that his ads are lies, Whoopi questioned him on the separation of church and state and asks him if his selection of Palin gave him pause on the topic.
On abortion, McCain says he thought Roe v. Wade was a bad decision and he wants people who interpret the Constitution the way our founding fathers intended them to. Whoopi then asks if that means she’ll be returned to slavery.
Josh Marshall at TPM notes that McCain’s statement about Palin’s earmark rejections is a big fat lie:

Wil Wheaton, oops, I mean Rachel Maddow debunks a number of outright lies that were told during the Republican National Convention. If only America listened. I begin to worry that there are waaaay too many Kool-aid drinkers in the polling public – how is McCain GAINING? Ms. Veep cannot even keep her own house in order.
Do we really want a moose hunting self described hockey-mom 1 fatty sandwich from the presidency? What ever happened to a lifetime of political experience? I thought we had moved away from the original concept of democracy as a random choice of leader from amongst the general ignorant superstitious populace.
Oh Oh, seems like not EVERYONE has been drinking the kool-aid. I sense dissension in the ranks as MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, political consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan have a frank discussion about the Republican VP pick while forgetting the desk has ears.
Here is Patrick Sammon, President of the Log Cabin Republicans, discussing his group’s recent endorsement of John McCain for President with CNN.
I just don’t see how any self respecting gay person can hop on the Republican bandwagon, especially now that McCain has added someone to the ticket who is as conservative and who has proven hostile to gay rights as Sarah Palin. The Log Cabin Republicans are just trying to stay relevant as they are being trotted out to show the inclusiveness of the Republican party. Its kind of sad. They are choosing the vote their wallet instead of voting their soul.
OK I admit I usually think she just comes across as a vapid entitled whore, but this is actually pretty amusing. Crazily enough, her suggestion for the energy crisis seems sound.
