HeroesNHunks has been suffering from server induced technical difficulties all week. I lost a couple posts and comments when they rest things back to the way there were on Monday.

I know there is alot of talk about the record numbers of African American California voters who showed up in droves to elect Barack Obama (YAY!) and eliminate my legal right to marry a member of the same sex (BOO!).

I want to say that do not misdirect your anger. I’m hearing news of No on 8 protesters verbally abusing random African Americans with hate speech (yes THAT word). NOT COOL PEOPLE! That is the exact opposite of what needs to be done. By sinking to that level not only do you step right into the image that may have made that person vote Yes on 8 (and likely an image spoon fed them by a pastor or other “person of faith”) but also you never know you could be yelling at an African American, straight but supportive or flaming homosexual NO on 8 voter. SHAME ON ANYONE WHO DOES THAT!!!!!!

We need to reach out to the people who were lied to by the Mormon Church - make them realize the underhanded way they were tricked. There are many people who voted for Prop 8 who wouldn’t have had they truly seen the parallels between African American and LGBT quests for civil rights. We may not be the first group of people to kick around under cloak of faith and feel good about it, but GOD WILLING we will be the last.

  • The Wisdom of Popapathy, or FUCKING MORMONS!

    Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Despite the sweeping Obama victory, the close, apparent (fingers crossed on that 4% but not holding my breath) passing of Proposition 8 severely bummed me out. I just don’t understand how someone can vote in the country’s very first African American president while in the same breath choosing to eliminate rights from a minority group. Also it REALLY chaps my ass that the Fucking Utah Mormons can poke their noses into California politics by pouring millions of their tax-free dollars into the Yes on 8 campaign. I want to see any politically outspoken Church lose it’s tax exempt status. If they want to share the hateful christian “faithful political perspective” in their sermons and homilies, fine. But the second they spend one tax exempt dime on a media campaign meant to influence politics and government that is crossing the line between Church and State.

Well that was my rant. My sweet Popapathy sent me the best letter to help put things in perspective… here it is.

Even though it’s a set back, there are mitigating circumstances that will hopefully minimize this insult to nothing more than a tiresome, expensive court showdown, a historical anachronism. because this will be appealed somehow. Don’t let it get you down. Remember:

  • it’s at best a sad last gasp of an entirely repudiated party and ideology.
  • the larger battle was won, with Obama in, the legal jeopardy is minimized because domestic partnerships (which everyone in the whole world supports apparently) protect us on so many fronts.
  • as an amendment, it really doesn’t change anything, we’ll still get to visit each other in the hospital.
  • the kids growing up now, will never support this and will change it, federally maybe.
  • in the perspective of recent history, it was just the late seventies that we were de-listed as a mental disorder, the nineties, when sodomy lost its sex offender felony status, and barely 2000 for the passing of widespread domestic partnership provisions.
  • So we’ve come far in a short amount of time, let them have some time to adjust and have this desperate act, all the better to shame them in history’s unstinting glare because eventually it will be trivial.

  • ACTIVATE!’s Halloween Funhouse

    Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

The flier I created for Lookout’s and Lord Martine’s ACTIVATE!’s Halloween Funhouse is popping up all over San Francisco’s Castro. It features a photo of pornstar Eric Rhodes by fashion photographer Justin Monroe and the photoshop wizardry of pxlforge (a.k.a. me, your host fanboi - what - did you think THIS pays any bills?) I just saw it pinned up at Castro and 18th Street. I love seeing my work out there on the streets of San Francisco.

ACTIVATE! at Lookout is a Castro neighborhood venue full of a hot and sexy crowd and they’ve lined up some great events for your Halloween entertainment so break out your best fangs or faerie wings and check it out if you are able!

  • My new addiction… Neverwinter Nights 2

    Friday, August 29th, 2008

While I was suffering from that crippling spyware infestation, I ended up breaking down and looking for a game that I could play without internet, and decided on Neverwinter Nights 2. Its not really all that new, but i hadn’t played it despite enjoying the original and actual traditional D&D.

    Cynn Abyr at level 15

Well now Cynn Abyr is a level 14 Sorcerer / Level 1 Red Dragon Disciple and I’m hooked so bad it has totally interfered with my blogging, not to mention actual life. Rest assured over the weekend while other bloggers rest, there will be some more comics previews, my picks from the 27th and some beefcake just for you!

Sorry gents, even the most obsessed of fanboi’s needs a weekend off occasionally.

Heading up north with friends to Russian River for the weekend. We went up last year for the first time for a good bud’s birthday and it was so much fun we decided it deserves being a tradition. Poolside Mimosas and boys in briefs for everyone! Have a great weekend and be sure to go out of your way to have a good time.

Back on Monday! In the meantime… I always encourage searches, the tag cloud and using the calender to peruse the the wealth of geektastic previews, reviews and general babbling I’ve been doing since 042008. And theres a lot of hot hunks having sex too.

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are a punk rock supergroup cover band drawn together by a mutual love of 1960s and 1970s music. The Gimme Gimmes have covered songs from such artists as Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, R. Kelly and John Denver.

Startup I work for seems to be winding down instead, so I finally have to bite the bullet and quit my current position and find a new one. Payroll is always late and now the check bounced. So if you know of a position for a graphic designer fluent in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Premiere, Maya and 3D Studio Max… or if you just need some freelance design work, drop me a line at fanboi@heroesnhunks.com and I can forward my portfolio link.

I happened upon a song by English pop singer Shayne Ward (had never heard of him before) on a mySpace friends page and I liked his romantic voice well enough to search for other songs and dug this up. I thought it was beautiful (I don’t claim to be any music expert, in fact far from it, but I know what I like. Ward won the second series of British television music talent show The X Factor.

Anyway, its a pretty song and its dedicated to popapathy. You can buy his import album here if you like it.

So if YOU know music and are interested in contributing drop a comment with your e-mail, I’m looking for a music reviewer… I prefer to stick to what I know.

A few more of his songs after the jump…
    (more…)

I figured I’ve been at this a few weeks and as of April 3rd, heroesnhunks.com has been viewed over 1670 times in at least 52 countries, so I figured the least I could do is tell you a little about my inspiration. I was out having drinks with my man (Popapathy) and left him dancing with his “Grace” I prefer calling them that to “fag hag.” He’ll catch up with me later :) tonight after he’s all danced out.

Anyway I digress, but a few Cosmos will do that. So, motivation… a few years back, I started following a few blogs (Gaypornblog and Fleshbot). One of these eventually led me to Dudetube which was the jackpot of all blogs for me… it covered comic books AND gay porn and I’d never met anyone else who had a similar interest before, so I immediately started checking it daily and bookmarking links it spotlighted, Through it I found many other blogs I still follow (such as queerty and SuperUndewearPerverts are both still favorites.)

A few months after I found Dudetube I discovered a new comic book store called Whatever in San Francisco’s famous gay neighborhood, the Castro District, and soon had met a whole group of comic book reading gay geeks. I had no idea there were so many of us, but it makes sense. What is a fanboy anyway. Described by Urban Dictionary as “A passionate fan of various elements of geek culture (e.g. sci-fi, comics, Star Wars, video games, anime, hobbits, Magic: the Gathering, etc.), but who lets his passion override social graces.” OK I’ll give then the passionate part, but I do think I am capable of social graces when necessary. We are not all the Simpsons “comic book guy” caricature that has become everyone mental image of the straight geek. In some ways I think the gay geek is a VERY different animal, but in others we are quite similar (but I think the differences have little to do with the acts performed).

The closest I ever had to a gay geek role model was Michael Novotny. And I must say just seeing that character interacting with his gay posse did more to make me comfortable with being myself as a gay geek than anything else. Before that i think I really truly believed I was some sort of an anathema.

So Dudetube gave me awareness I wasn’t alone, and Whatever gave me a peer group. As months progressed, Dudetube became more a place to find hot clips from xTube and pretty pics of the muscular goofball boys of fratpad, and I was venting about the dwindling comics content to a friend one day when he suggested I should fill the void I was complaining about. So here you go…

What is your idea of a gay geek? Is sexuality the only thing to differ a gay geek from a straight one? I seriously think some lucky psychiatrist could write a fascinating paper on parallels between comic book superheros and pornstars. I believe both foster an unrealistic idea of the human form (I call it the superman complex - straight boys get the PowerGirl complex, but its the same thing.) If I get some discussion, I’ll continue this line of thought later. Now I’m going to read few free comic books (I’ll review some tomorrow) and go to bed. Don’t worry, I’ll pick a Daily Peep first!
