Dark X-Men #4… who’s there? Nate or Norman?

So Nate Grey is in control of Norman Osborn, for now. I have a feeling that this happened BEFORE The Seige so I don’t think X-Man will be taking up permanent residence in the Green Goblin’s noggin. But I also have no idea how they plan to exorcise him. Maybe Mimic will copy his telepathy and use it against him? Butthey would only be a sliver of his power… shouldn’t be enough to take him out. Hmmm, we’ll see.

What has X-Man done to Norman Osborn? Whatever it is, it must be extreme because the Dark X-Men are making a journey into Osborn’s mind to fix it! But once they’re in, can they survive the depths of madness they find in the dark corners of Norman’s mental minefield?

What will Mystique do when confronted with the choice to 1. Expose Nate, 2. Help Nate, 3. Run, 4. Keep quiet and see where the chips fall. I’d put money on #3 if I were a betting man. I REALLY hope that Nate Grey will be left a part of the Marvel universe again once the dust has settled. I always liked the character. He was really the only AoA character that I was happy to see enter 616 continuity.

I must say that the combination of Mystique’s new Jean Grey persona and blue and white Dark X-Men uniform is sheer brilliance. A beautiful homage to her original white belted tunic costume. I’m SO happy that Nate’s coming back to 616 continuity, but I hope he doesn’t end up a prisoner in Norman Osborne’s “Omega Machine.”

X-MAN, A.K.A. NATE GRAY IS BACK! Sadly, the X-Men that he first encounters are Norman Osborn’s X-Men and they don’t like the idea of an Omega-level mutant that won’t tow the company line. Do they have a chance of defeating X-Man? And if they don’t, what does that mean to Osborn’s agenda?

Now that Nate has gotten up to speed on the status quo of the Marvel u since he’s been gone, it should be a bit harder to trick him into a trap.

Dark X-Men #1 Journey to the Center of the Goblin?

I’m so psyched to have Nate Grey back! I can’t wait to see how he fits into this series. Norman Osborn and his Dark X-Men may be biting off a bit more than they can chew if they mean to cross him off any list. Better men have tried. Universes have tried…and failed. I wonder what the cryptic title of the arc means? WHAT Goblin is WHO journeying to the center of???

From the dust of UTOPIA comes DARK X-MEN! Never one to say “die”, Norman Osborn is keeping what’s left of HIS X-Men alive. MYSTIQUE! DARK BEAST! WEAPON OMEGA! MIMIC! They are the public face of mutants in an Osborn world. And what a face they are!

But its far from the last as Hope is still on her way back from the future and Nate Grey is back so there are all kinds of possibilities for mutants in 2010!

PART FOUR (of SIX) New Mutants #9: What is Illyana Rasputin up to? In NEW MUTANTS #1, she returned from who knows where with knowledge that she says is from the future. A future where things aren’t going well for the X-Men. Emma Frost is not going to settle for this question being unanswered. Finally, after years of being stuck in a one-way trip to oblivion, Cable and Hope leap into the past. But the Mutant Messiah and her surrogate father miss the mark by more than a few hundred years, finding themselves in a primitive Manhattan – and hunted by a mutant who just doesn’t know the meaning of the word “quit.” Nation-X X-Factor: Utopia. The sanctuary for mutants to escape a world that wants them extinct. So is it the ideal home for X-Factor? That's what Cyclops believes when he invites the world's only mutant detective agency to relocate to their floating island retreat and take up residence there. But will Madrox and his team believe that it's the best place for them? What old faces will pop up, and what old acquaintances will be renewed? And will there even be a Utopia left when the mysterious Crone shows up and threatens to bring the entire place crashing down into the Pacific?

Dark X-Men: The Confession

She REALLY didn’t tell Scott about her seat at the table? I find that hard to believe. SHe knows what an excellent tactician he is, I would think she would find his input invaluable in a situation like that. On the other hand the secrecy would appeal to the “old” Emma.

Emma Frost’s secret dealings with the Cabal come to light and her life will never be the same.

Dark X-Men vs. X-Man? Nate Grey Returns!

The Age of Apocalypse’s Nate Grey (X-Man) is back and he’s a target for Norman Osborn’s Dark X-Men!

The creative team from Captain Britain and MI13 isn’t taking much of a break after the cancellation of their series. Next up for the pair is a 5 issue Dark X-Men miniseries starting in November that chronicles the aftermath of UTOPIA and EXODUS. The cast is a mystery – writer Paul Cornell couldn’t reveal the line-up without giving away the end of the current storyline.

Nate Grey - X-Man Dark X-Men #1 of 5

The only Dark X-Men character that Cornell was willing to go into detail about is Nate Grey (AKA X-Man). Nate, the son of an alternate reality’s Cyclops and Jean Grey, was one of a number of new or variant characters who survived the close of the 1995-96 X-Men storyline The Age of Apocalypse (also Dark Beast, Holocaust Sabertooth, Blink and Sugar Man).” His own title chronicling his exploits in the 616 universe ran until Nate apparently sacrificed his life to save the world in issue #75. Dark X-Men marks his return to the Marvel Universe.

But contrary to what you may be thinking, Nate Grey isn’t a part of the team. He’s the target. You can see why Norman Osborn wouldn’t want “a very powerful, charismatic, alternative leader of mutant affairs who is a Summers dreaming his way back into the world, the deadliest possible hero.”

Unfortunately for the cast of “Dark X-Men” they’ll have no choice but to confront Nate Grey because he quickly becomes part of an important mission that Osborn tasks them with. “The story is called ‘Journey to the Centre of the Goblin’, and, though it won’t become clear until towards the end, that’s exactly what it becomes about, getting inside Norman Osborn’s head,” Cornell revealed. “On the way, we encounter the world haunted by Nate, the cult that S.H.I.E.L.D. became, and the twisted psyches of our four leads, which skew the story in ways that might surprise you.”

OK so these guys are working for Osborn, but we see Angel and Beast (and 2 mystery character – 1 female) on the cover of #1… Dark Beast or our Henry? Would Warren work for Osborn? Makes me eager for the end of Utopia and Exodus…

I’m looking forward to seeing exactly HOW the X-Men (Dark or otherwise) will deal with this situation. I’m thinking maybe Emma will take the Sentry away from Norman? With Ares on his side, the X-Men need a serious heavy hitter on theirs.

UTOPIA rages on! Norman Osborn’s victory in San Francisco is cemented when the Dark X-Men succeed where the X-Men can’t. All the while the Dark Avengers
are forced to watch from the sidelines. But how long will Bullseye and Ares sit idle?

Dark X-Men: Exodus and The Confession

After the Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men crossover comes to a head in Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Exodus, According to Chris Yost, Emma Frost will put all her cards on the table and tell Cyclops about her part in Norman Osborn’s Dark Reign cabal in Dark X-Men: The Confession.

I think Scott’s secret team of killer X-Men (X-Force) will also come out in the wash. I don’t know how anyone expected him to keep a lid on that.

The climactic conclusion to the crossover event of 2009 is here! This is it, the final battle for the Dark Avengers and the X-Men that will change the status quo for the Marvel Universe.

Emma Frost’s betrayal comes home to roost. Cyclops’ plan clicks into place, but is it too late? What can the X-Men do against the Sentry and Ares?

Part of me still thinks Scott knew the whole time. If she didn’t tell him, I’m sure she had a good reason. Well not THAT sure – she WAS a first class villain, but I think she likes things on the sunny side so I don’t think she was REALLY out for herself – more likely she saw Norman abusing his newfound authority to form dangerous alliances and felt that mutants NEEDED to be represented. She knew no one from Scott’s camp was capable of seating at THAT table so she took her rightful position. I don’t believe for 1 second she was EVER on Norman’s side, and neither will Scott – at least IMHO.

LGBT Spotlight on… Wolverine’s son Daken

Whenever a new LGBT character is outed in a mainstream comics, I try to feature them here. There was a curious exchange between Dark X-Man/Dark Avenger Daken (the son of Wolverine) and the Dark Avenger Hawkeye (Bullseye) in this weeks Dark Avengers #7 that got me wondering about Daken’s sexuality…

LGBT Spotlight on a curious exchange from Dark Avengers #7

I don’t think writers do things like this by mistake. Usage of commonly known idiom’s such as “playing for both teams” are pretty obvious. Thoughts? What will Wolvie think of it? I’m guessing Daken’s a bisexual top, he seems bossy.

Thanks to Jennifer of FantasticFangirls who pointed out that this is far from the first hint of this tattooed bad boy’s AC/DC inclinations. Apparently Daken admitted to kissing (and killing) a man in Wolverine Origins #11, and has been using his pheromone power to sexually manipulate women and men in Dark Wolverine. Damn – ANOTHER title I’ll have to start picking up!

Also thanks to reader and regular commenter Psiwire who sent me these panels that reveal how Daken sexually manipulated a male H.A.M.M.E.R. employee with his pheromone power and him hitting on fellow Dark Avenger Mac Gargan – the Dark Avengers answer to “Spider-Man” (really Venom – formerly The Scorpion).

I want to see him seduce his alien twink teammate Noh-Varr (Marvel Boy)! Wouldn’t they make a hot couple? Like mixing Falcon and Raging Stallion porn.

With all this evidence, it seems this is not just a tease. I love that all these new (and old) characters are coming out these days!

Anyone else got a scan that adds fuel to the bisexual fire? Send it in for a shout out! For that matter – send me anything you spot that “outs” ANY comic book character!

Prelude to the All-New All-Deadly Dark X-Men

I thought I’d go ahead and write this post as I read the actual issue – sort of a stream-of-consciousness kind of review. We’ll see how it turns out. All comfy, have provisions at hand, opening the issue as I publish… here goes nothing! Don’t red until you read for yourself – SPOILERS BEWARE!!!!

“UTOPIA: CHAPTER 2” WHO ARE THE DARK X-MEN? He has his own Avengers team and now Norman Osborn has his own X-Men team. The other shoe has finally dropped and Emma Frost has betrayed Cyclops and the rest of the X-Men. And that’s just one of the huge surprises in “UTOPIA”. Is that Namor? Cloak and Dagger? Professor X?! The thing that you aren’t ready for is that Osborn is right.

Solid opening. A lot has gone down since last issue. Gotta love Ms. Marvel looking like a fabulous drag queen in the Castro and Daken messing with a beatnik protester who looks like Logan. I don’t see Prof X – being so agreeable with Norman Osborn. OK Now we see Prof X and Beast are in the slammer – so was that Prof X siding with Norm under duress or an impostor? Looks like I had the line-up right… Mimic, CLoak, Dagger, Daken and Weapon Omega. And Oh shit, Dark Beast is working for Osborn. Now here is Armani Xavier again.. Hmm Since Charles is still in jail, looks like a doppelganger of some kind. Yup – Mystique – duh. Why didn’t I see that coming? REALLY should have. Hmmm, Namor was Emmas addition. Emma sniffs out Raven, but doesn’t ask where Charles is, interesting… What’s up with Trask? Is he one of the resurrected techorganics from the opening arc of the new X-Force? And the kids have a god question… DID Scott and Emma break up? or is this all part of a plan? Now what is Sunspot doing with this gang of sixth stringers? And why does it look like Emma is flying?

Each of the 3 issues will consist of three 11-page stories, each dedicated to one of the Dark X-Men and how they came to be part of the team. The first two issues focus on Emma Frost, Mimic, Cloak & Dagger, Daken, a NEW Weapon X and Dark Beast!

The Dark Beast? I didn’t see him on either of the released images… Also I just don’t see Xavier working for Osborn. I’m still wondering about the true identity of these mutants… Do you think that is really Emma Frost or one of the Cuckoos? Also Namor looks a bit skinny.

From the July solicits, it seems that by the time this hits the stands, the other shoe has finally dropped and Emma Frost has betrayed Cyclops and the rest of the X-Men. And that’s just one of the huge surprises in “UTOPIA”. If you are wondering why Emma would betray Cyclops… Take a look at this cover for Uncanny X-Men 511 and ask yourself why hasn’t he done anything about seeing Madelyne Pryor?

So is this Madelyne back in her own body? Emma’s? Jean’s? Or is it Jean back for the umpteenth time?

The All-New All-Deadly Dark X-Men

From Left to right… Looks like Guardian – but wearing an Omega symbol (could it be the Collective, who has started wearing the Guardian suit after absorbing the mutant energy displaced when Scarlet With said “No more mutants?”), The White Queen in black leather, Cloak & Dagger, Professor X, Daken, Mimic and Namor. Interesting line-up.

Emma and Norman’s deal was that she would keep mutants quiet and off the table and he’d stay out of their business, and something’s happened to upset that cart of apples

UPDATE: Apparently this is the cover to Uncanny X-Men #513 and NOT a new title. It is the start of a summer cross-over called Dark Avengers/X-Men: Utopia.
