We draw closer to the end of the Dark Avengers with every issue. With only two left things are coming to a head. In this teaser we get our first real look at Norman’s secret weapon – at least in glowing-eyed silhouette. Anyone have the faintest clue WHAT THE HELL THAT THING IS!?!?!? Is it The Void somehow separated from The Sentry?
SIEGE BLOCKBUSTER TIE-IN!! In the middle of SIEGE, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye take center stage in a sick twisted battle, and launch their own agenda, revealing their true relationship, and their personal plans for Norman Osborn.
I don’t know for sure WHAT it is but it’s kicking that Doombot’s ass. I’m guessing this is just a better view the previously seen attack on Doom that ended up being a Doombot that launched a nanotech attack in retaliation. If it IS the Void. That makes Sentry an even surer bet for the “Fallen” hero.

So the Sentry has been getting some kind of liquid power boosting serum from Norman Osborn this whole time. That is interesting. I keep waiting for some new fact that makes sense of the Sentry, maybe this issue will be it? We’ll see, I’m not holding my breath.
After years of mystery, the secrets of the Sentry are revealed! How deep is his madness and who is really in control of him? What is the limit of his power, if any? And what deadly mystery surrounds him causing mortals and gods to tremble in fear?
What may be more interesting tha the Sentry’s “serum” is exactly what do the biblical plagues of Egypt have to do with anything. Stay tuned!

It has been announced that the end of their current epic event “Siege,” Marvel will also be bringing ALL of the Avengers titles to a close as well. Yes you read that right. New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Dark Avengers and Avengers The Initiative are all canceled as of April. Now you KNOW that’s not the end of the story but with the exception of the issue solicits (click cover and read captions), its all we have right now. In addition to the final issues of each title, there is also a special one-shot by Avengers scribe Brian Michael Bendis and Ultimates artists Bryan Hitch!!! Now as to what will follow that, Let the speculation begin!
 |
I hope that out of the ashes rises a new title just called Avengers that either resumes the old numbering where it left off, or adds the 100 issues of New and Mighty to take them to #604 (I think). As for other possible books, I don’t know. I like Dark Avengers so I hope there is still room for a book that dark in the bright light of this new Heroic Age that is to follow the Siege.
I’m SO glad that Marvel FINALLY remembered that they have their OWN Trinity! With Iron Man, Thor and Captain America together again a new Heroic Age is upon us! I am pretty psyched about this but hope that Marvel can pull it off without losing all of the edge and angst they’ve built up during the Civil War, Secret Invasion and Dark Reign.
I don’t want to just go back to the way things were before it all happened, we’ll need a whole new status quo. So what will it be? All 3 of them as the founders of the Avengers? Iron Man back at S.H.I.E.L.D.? Captain America taking over the Initiative or starting a H.A.M.M.E.R. replacement called S.I.C.K.L.E.? Thor for President? Who knows?

OK, one issue after Victoria Hand is revealed as a lesbian and already she’s been stripped down to her underwear like a by a lascivious and nearly omnipotent villain like a horny nerd undressing his little sisters dolls. Thoughts?
The explosive smash hit series from Brian Bendis and Mike Deodato continues!! The Dark Avengers are pitted against a foe they cannot defeat: A man with the power over every molecule in the world! Norman can’t talk his way out of this one as the world gets turned upside down and no joke…someone dies. For reelz!!
Umm. They said someone was going to die last issue.

Well it seems that the lesson Norman Osborn took away from the Marvel U’s Civil War was that you can sell anything to the public as long as you scare them first with a sufficiently tragic instigating event. So the Green Goblin has decide to set public opinion against Asgard by setting up an unsuspecting Volstagg with the U-Foes.
Beginning with the ravaging affects of Avengers Disassembled and following the aftermaths of House of M, Civil War and Secret Invasion, culminating with the evil Reign of Norman Osborn, the Marvel Universe has been left with its greatest villains holding more power and control than ever before. On the brink of madness, Osborn, in his final bid to take total control, targets the final obstacle in his mission…Asgard.
Events are set in motion forcing our heroes to put aside the deep rifts that have grown over the past seven years. Opposing them stand a horde of evil that has begun to take down the gods of the Golden Realm! SIEGE will rock the foundations of every super hero, villain and team in the Marvel Universe. As an era ends, one word will ring above all others…”SIEGE.”
I’m sure Stormin Norman plans to sweep right on in there using his “mystery ally” and easily round up a bunch of immortals, but his plans may be derailed by the reunion of Marvel’s own Trinity – Thor, Iron Man and captain America. They’ll wipe the floor with him and his “Dark” Avengers.

I’ve been a fan of Noh-Varr since he was first introduced in his own mini-series, so I was overjoyed to see Marvel Boy join 616 Marvel continuity as a hero even if it was as Norman Osborn’s Captain Marvel.
Bendis and Bachalo launch from the pages of New Avengers and reunite for this very important chapter in the Dark Avengers saga. Noh-Varr found out he was surrounded by madmen and villains and ran for the hills. But no one gets out of Osborn’s grip that easy…
Will a new hero rise in the Marvel Universe or will he be seduced to the dark side? Also, the Sentry’s true self revealed!!
If you were wondering what he’s been up to since he took a powder, than this special DOUBLE-SIZED annual is right up your alley.

Well there is one more LGBT character in the Marvel U… This teaser preview shows Victoria sparring 3 years ago with a close female friend as she tells her about her plan to send a letter telling Nick Fury speaking out about everything he’s doing wrong. She sent the letter and got herself transferred. The girlfriend who appears to have lived there as they had "a life together" basically said I told you so and dumped her like a bad habit.
Poor Victoria. So we see how she could agree with Norman Osborn’s shoot first ask questions later mentality, but how much of his evil shenanigans is she going to witness without speaking out again?
The explosive smash hit series from Brian Bendis and Mike Deodato continues!! The Dark Avengers are pitted against a foe they cannot defeat: A man with the power over every molecule in the world! Norman can’t talk his way out of this one as the world gets turned upside down and no joke…someone dies. For reelz!
PLUS: Stuff happens! – The Dark Avengers take on the omnipotent… Owen Reece? Well he sounds more frightening as The mighty Molecule Man! So who do YOU think is gonna buy the farm? I keep hoping it will be Sentry but he’s part of The Seige
so doubtful.

Although we are in for some Daken-on-Hulkling action during the finale of the YA miniseries, Wiccan doesn’t have anything to worry about. Teddy really is true blue (er green) and immune to the pheremonal charms of Wolverine’s tattooed bisexual bad boy offspring. Now if only he can do something about the slashing claws.
So can the Young Avengers and those who would be Young Avengers form one big happy group? Can either of them live under Norman Osborn’s rules? Will blood out? Will guilt win? Will Speed and Coat or won’t they? It’s the end. And lots of terrible stuff happens. And everything ends in tatters.
I can’t wait to see where this leaves the Young Avengers gang. It’s been announced that creator Allen Heinberg has a YA project coming.

But for how long? I know its a far cry from the traditional Avengers we all know and love, but I’m enjoying the sinister Dark Avengers almost as much as it’s more heroic sister titles. But I wonder JUST how long they can keep it up. I’m betting Norman Osborn’s “Dark Reign” won’t last much past the return of Steve Rogers.
Oh hey, you know how Norman Osborn was once the Green Goblin but he got it under control and now he’s one of the most powerful people in the free world? Oh, and you know that whole thing about him being a ticking time bomb who could snap at any minute? Yeah… you might want to check this issue out. The smash hit of the year continues!!

The old depowered routine is sooo overused. And one item that takes out magic, tech and innate superhuman abilities with the flick of a switch? Sounds more far fetched than usual to me…
It was bound to happen and now it has. The Hood loses his grip on the colorful criminals that make his empire. It’s a super-villain turf war and guess who is stuck in the middle? That’s right… the powerless New Avengers. Not to mention the powerless Dark Avengers (who guest star, btw.) Who will replace the Hood as kingpin of criminals??

Ares apparently has no clue that while he is off being a Dark Avenger, his son Phobos has been hanging out with Nick Fury and his Howling Secret Warrior Caterpillars. I have to admit that seems a bit odd. I figured Phobos is at least a demigod so Ares lets him do his own thing, but I guess not. From the looks of this preview… Ares is a “comes home from work every night type single dad” type. REALLY? This issue he is going to find out about his son’s extracurricular activities and when he does… there will be hell to pay.
Guest-starring Nick Fury and the Secret Warriors. Oh, YES… you heard that right. Ares versus Nick Fury! You might have heard your old man taking about back in “the day” when Stan Lee used to say ’nuff said? This would be the kind of thing he was ’nuff saiding about!
Marvel Boy always seemed like a poor fit for the Dark Avengers. He wasn’t really a criminal or psychopath like the rest. He’s just a misunderstood interdimensional alien with his own ideas of world order. He had no idea how sinister a gang the Dark Avengers actually is, but he’s learning. Hope he survives the test.

Makes sense that the heroes best off with their powers disrupted are those WITHOUT powers. Prepare to see Mockingbird kick some ass…
Oh man, it is not a good day for the New Avengers. Someone has invented a power disruptor and unleashed it in New York City. The heroes have fallen. Some are hurt bad, others near death.
Who will rise to the challenge and save the day? A very important DARK REIGN issue. Something big happens. Not going to tell you what it is but it happens on page 17, panel 4.

I’m looking forward to seeing exactly HOW the X-Men (Dark or otherwise) will deal with this situation. I’m thinking maybe Emma will take the Sentry away from Norman? With Ares on his side, the X-Men need a serious heavy hitter on theirs.
UTOPIA rages on! Norman Osborn’s victory in San Francisco is cemented when the Dark X-Men succeed where the X-Men can’t. All the while the Dark Avengers
are forced to watch from the sidelines. But how long will Bullseye and Ares sit idle?

I’d been wondering if Ares knew what Phobos was up to…
Baron Strucker and Norman Osborn team up to drive out the Marvel Universe’s ultimate covert superteam. It’s wall-to-wall insanity as the Dark Avengers and the Thunderbolts go after the Secret Warriors. It’s time for Ares to get his son back! GOD OF FEAR. GOD OF WAR. Part one of four!
Check out ever-shirtless Stonewall looking smoking hot in his fingerless leather opera gloves (No i’m NOT going to let that go) as he breaks into a vault with the rest of the gang. I can’t wait until Daken meets Stonewall… who knows? Love connection?
Part 2 of GOD OF FEAR. GOD OF WAR. can be found in Thunderbolts #135. See these early pencils – The Black Widow (now revealed as Natasha Romanova in disguise – not Yelena) stands against the telepathic serial-killing psychopath Mister X for the life of Songbird.
If Songbird can get what she knows to Nick Fury… well you see why Norman Osborn sent Mr. X to kill her.
Norman Osborn! Black Widow! Songbird! Nick Fury! When you finally learn how these four powderkegs intersect and collide, you will be picking your jaw off the floor!
Secrets will be uncovered, agendas will be exposed, and heads will roll in the latest wicked installment of the book ComicPants.com calls “Bold and awesome. Diggle has woven a tale of underhanded evil and it truly is a great thing to behold.”

After the Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men crossover comes to a head in Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Exodus, According to Chris Yost, Emma Frost will put all her cards on the table and tell Cyclops about her part in Norman Osborn’s Dark Reign cabal in Dark X-Men: The Confession.
I think Scott’s secret team of killer X-Men (X-Force) will also come out in the wash. I don’t know how anyone expected him to keep a lid on that.

Part of me still thinks Scott knew the whole time. If she didn’t tell him, I’m sure she had a good reason. Well not THAT sure – she WAS a first class villain, but I think she likes things on the sunny side so I don’t think she was REALLY out for herself – more likely she saw Norman abusing his newfound authority to form dangerous alliances and felt that mutants NEEDED to be represented. She knew no one from Scott’s camp was capable of seating at THAT table so she took her rightful position. I don’t believe for 1 second she was EVER on Norman’s side, and neither will Scott – at least IMHO.

Depowering the heroes has always been one of the classics. I’ll be interested to see how the New Avengers (and the Dark Avengers) will fare without their superhuman abilities. But then again we have Captain America, Ronin and Bullseye who don’t have superpowers in the traditional sense… just training and very honed set of skills.
Ultimate Spider-Man artist Stuart Immonen rejoins series regular Brian Bendis for this all-new blockbuster Avengers story. One of the Hood’s gang has found a way to power drain the New Avengers and it turns the tides of the Dark Reign in ways no one would have expected it.
Plus the new Sorcerer Supreme has a lot to learn, and they’re going to learn it from…Spider-Man?
Without their powers, who will come out on top? The New Avengers or the Dark Avengers? We know the former Thunderbolts have no problem fighting dirty, but how are they powerless? Is there anything that could make both teams work together? How about fighting for their lives against the Hood’s gang of things?

Now that I know about Daken’s sexual flexibility, I will have to start picking this up. I know he is just the kind of depraved bisexual that had GLAAD complaining about Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, but he has that hot bad boy thing going on, and sometimes an anti-hero is more interesting than a goody-goody. I’m interested to seeing what his master plan is all about.
“THE PRINCE” From the pages of DARK AVENGERS, the journey of WOLVERINE’S son continues! Just as Daken’s Machiavellian plans begin to take shape, he hits a snag. Or rather, four of them. Guest-starring THE FANTASTIC FOUR! Part 2 (of 3)
Here are some choice moments from part 1 in case you missed it like me (though I’ll be picking it up this week if they have any left).
