Brideshead revisits Bridehead Revisited

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Brideshead, the new feature film version of Brideshead Revisited (starring Michael Gambon, Emma Thompson, Matthew Goode, Ben Whishaw and Greta Scacchi) has sparked heated debate about changes to the plot.

Conflicting info on the release date. It says July 25 at Trailer Addict, but Queerty says August 1st

A few more of the more interesting movies we can expect to see after this summer’s blockbusters…

Waltz With Bashir: Ari Folman’s animated documentary into the horrors of the 1982 Lebanon war.

    a dividing line

If you enjoy animated documentaries…try Persepolis. Its a brilliant story by Marjane Satrapi depicting her childhood in Iran after the revolution and was based on a graphic novel. On DVD in English June 24th.

I’ll admit, I was more into seeing it once they released the English language version. It too hard to watch a subtitled animated movie - I want to look at the images and have to keep checking the dialog and missing the minute details I so enjoy.

    a dividing line

Burn after Reading: the new flick from the Coen Brothers has a great cast: Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand. Due out Spetember 12, 2008.

    a dividing line

Zach and Miri Make a Porno - Kevin Smith’s (whom I adore on a purely creative level) new, non-Askewniverse comedy about two lifelong. platonic friends who fall in love while making an adult film. In theaters October 2008. Hate to say I’ve generally liked his Askewniverse titles better, but I always give him a chance.

Not all this summer’s eagerly anticipated released are leaping off comic book pages. I’m not sure if they can top Iron Man, Batman and the Hulk (anticipating the last 2 on trailer coolness alone) but I’m damn sure they will try. Check out these trailers for X-Files I Want to Believe, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Journey to the Center of the Earth and The Clone Wars. What are YOU hyped up to see?

Lets just collectively forget the Ang Lee debacle… OK This looks more than hot enough to replace that in anyone mind. No more crouching tiger hidden hulk. This time around when he leaps and lands, he has weight and power. Hulk in the first one felt like a big animated inflated balloon.

With Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Batman and Hellboy movies all coming this summer, nobody is really talking about Hancock, the movie about an “edgy, conflicted, sarcastic, and misunderstood” antihero (Will Smith) who saves a publicist (Jason Bateman) and finally comes to terms with the lesson Spidey learned on day one, great power, great responsibility yadda yadda yadda… I can’t remember the last Will Smith movie I looked forward to but I’m interested in this.

I love a PIXAR blockbuster in the summer!

SYNOPSIS from IMDB: What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, WALL*E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL*E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet’s future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL*E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets an adventure into motion. Joining WALL*E on his journey across the universe is a cast of characters including a pet cockroach and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots.

I was never a regular follower of the original show. I’ve seen more than a few episodes since they hit edited syndication, but I haven’t actually had HBO in years. I generally do just fine with my digital basic cable (tho since Rick and Steve and The Big Gay Sketch Show I want LOGO). But I do know some people were insane about Carrie Bradshaw and her Manolo-clad minions. So what do you think? Does it feel like old times? Or is it just another chick flick? Will she marry Big? Should she? Whoe else will show? What will be the “big” obstacle? Good news… Jason “Absolute Hunk” Lewis is on the cast list.

  • Shelter - gay artistic surfers in love

    Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Clip from the film “Shelter” featuring Trevor Wright, Brad Rowe and Ross Thomas.

Surfer Zach (Wright) in his free time draws and hangs out with his best friend Gabe (Thomas). He also hangs out with his best friend’s hot older brother Shaun (Rowe). You may remember blond prettyboy Brad Rowe as Billy’s crush object from Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss (or many other things, he’s been busy)

Forced to give up his dreams of art school, Zach spends his days working a dead-end job and helping his needy sister care for her son. In his free time he surfs, draws and hangs out with his best friend, Gabe, who lives on the wealthy side of town.

When Gabe’s older brother, Shaun, returns home, he is drawn to Zach.

Released by here! Films Shelter comes to theaters March 2008, followed by an exclusive run on Here TV Networks in April 2008.

  • Entertainment Weekly suggests we all do some homework before seeing that Comic Book Movie this summer

    Friday, April 25th, 2008

Entertainment Weekly’s suggestions for summer reading…

Before you see Iron Man (out May 2), read Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle by David Michelinie and Bob Layton

I’m really excited to see this. I love the look of the armor and think Robert Downey Jr. is actually inspired casting, and Gwyneth looks great as redhead Pepper Potts!
