Thor’s costume needs to look as if it came from Asgard… they need a sleek timeless interpretation of the traditional Thor outfit that looks more like some type of classic leather armor and less like a kevlar urban assault uniform with a cape added.

In this coming of middle age comedy, a once-successful novelist (Jeff Daniels), constantly attended by the imaginary superhero (a cheesed up spandex-clad Ryan Reynolds) who has been his pal since he was a kid, struggles to recover what made him great while watching his marriage fail.

Ryan Reynolds looks great as a platinum blond Superhero. I’m sure he’ll portray Hal Jordan a bit more seriously in his upcoming Green Lantern movie. This IS a comedy and he’s playing more of a parody of a Superhero than a real one. But at least we get an idea of how he fills out a pair of tights. I approve.

Those of you who have seen it will know what I mean when I say that the changes in the relationship between Dave and Katie were good but not as “real” as the way things unfolded in the comic. But not only did these and the other changes did make it a more entertaining movie (especially the big finish), but they also improved on the source material. I know some people (including myself) didn’t like the unnecessary homophobic hate speech that cropped up a few times in the book. But not to worry, there was none of that in the movie.

Hit-Girl was phenomenal (her sequences were blindingly violent and a thing of beauty. I was surprised that Nick Cage (who I’ve never liked all that much) was really good as well.

It is a genuine hit. Here’s what HNH favorite The GayComicGeek has to say about it.

As usual he’s right on the money. Though I actually enjoyed the occasional cheesier moments as they seemed very intentional to me and worked well with to way the film sometimes lapses into a parody of itself and the genre in genre. LOVED IT!

Also check out what CBR and everyone else has to say too… it got an average of “B+” but only because one hopelessly square asshole at the Chicago Sun-Times didn’t get the point. … Time, San Francisco Chronicle, IGN, Variety and Empire all gave it an “A.” I give it an A+! Run don’t walk to the next screening!

I’m wondering if they plan to do Cap’s body with CG because although it is an attractive group, none of these boys have that Super Soldier Serum look. Apparently also considered but unavailable due to schedule conflicts were “Supernatural” stud Jenson Ackles and Garret Hedlund of the upcoming “Tron Legacy.” Other possibilities bandied about since the movie was announced have included Will Smith, Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, but they seem to have fallen by the wayside since the news about wanting an “unknown” leaked.

Kick-Ass is a great supposedly monthly comic (although I have some problems with the unnecessary hate speech that writer Mark Millar puts in his hero’s mouth), but it was seriously harmed by scheduling issues (took 18 months to publish 8 issues). A pivotal part of the plot was revealed early… at the time the casting for Red Mist was revealed, he was described as the son of a Mafia don even though the character hadn’t even been introduced yet – completely spoiling that characters eventual betrayal for the readers. The concluding eighth issue of Kick-Ass is due in December so perhaps we’ll see a resolution to the story before the movie ACTUALLY comes out.

After an intense months-long search, Warner Bros. has chosen Ryan Reynolds to play the title character in “Green Lantern,” the studio’s live-action movie based on the DC Comics hero.

I hope they use the recent Geoff Johns additions to Hal Jordan’s origin.

I think he’s a good choice – I would have picked him for Wally West instead and gone with Nathan Fillion for GL (even BEFORE that great fan-made-trailer), but I can see it. I love Ryan Reynolds, I think Reynolds has been poised on the edge of being a real Hollywood leading man for a while now and I hope he really makes this movie a breakthrough hit.

Martin Campbell (who directed Goldeneye and Casino Royale) is on board to direct and while the budget – which has been rumored to have swollen to as high as $200 million for the space epic – is still not finalized, production is expected to begin in January of 2010.

Of course, this revelation immediately started speculation on how this will affect the previously announcedDeadpool movie from Fox starring Ryan Reynolds.

He recently starred in a comic-book movie, 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” in which he played Deadpool, also known as the Merc with a Mouth. The character is being developed for a spin-off in which Reynolds will star. He also played Marvel’s vampire hunter Hannibal King in “Blade: Trinity.”

If the deal is completed, it would make Reynolds technically the second actor to have played heroes for both Marvel and DC. A number of news outlets are reporting he is the first as did I, until HeroesNHunks reader kerutlj reminded us that Halle Berry played Storm AND Catwoman – but I can’t REALL fault them as far as I’m concerned that travesty with Patience Phillips instead of Selina Kyle was NOT the real Catwoman so it doesn’t count.

As a lifelong X-Men fan I am one of the few who would have gone to see this movie no matter HOW bad it looked. All in all it wasn’t as bad as I feared. I’m sure going in with a bad attitude helped, but I wasn’t nearly as outraged as I thought I would be. It could have been MUCH worse.

That said there were still a number of liberties that were taken with his history that I wasn’t happy about.

1. Wolverine and Sabretooth as half brothers? Army buddies – yes, brothers – no, I don’t remember that. It’s been often hinted that there was some kind of relationship, but as far as I remember it isn’t canon.

2. An adamantium bullet can defeat Logan? C’mon? REALLY? BULLSHIT!!! If they needed a way to take down Wolverine and wipe his memories, all they needed was an alpha class telepath – and they had one in a cell downstairs. Emma needs to be set on a path to the dark side before she can be redeemed so they should have had her working for Stryker during this movie.

3. Diamond skinned woman … Emma Frost? they why not have her “sister” Kaela call her Emma?

4. If diamond skinned woman WAS Emma – then who the hell is this “sister” Kaela? Emma has 2 sisters and their names are Cordelia and Adrienne.

5. How were Wolverine’s “bone” claws suddenly machine shop sharpened to razor points upon bonding adamantium to his skeleton? Wouldn’t they still be all rough and bone shaped, just coated with metal?

6. The Silver Fox character has been made into a white woman and retconned into Emma Frost’s non-existent sister.

7. Deadpool is not an amalgam of mutant powers. Although his healing factor IS based on Wolverine’s DNA, all his other abilities (teleporters, weapons etc) came from tech devices built into his costume (no optic blasts). As much as I liked seeing Ryan Reynolds hot bod during the fight – that should have been as scarred as his face.

There were also a number of great moments. I loved Gambit – though his accent could have been thicker and his eyes needed to glow more. Loved the Prof X moment and the denouements. I realize the whole Japan era of his life has to happen AFTER he is amnesiac so i see why they skipped it (for THIS movie) but It had better be central to any sequels.

They probably should have spent about twice as much as they did on the FX – they were sparse and not all that impressive. The story just felt more like the plot to the game than to a movie. It didn’t feel like it really had an ending. Partially due to it’s prequel nature. Stryker and Sabretooth had to live because they were seen in the X-Men trilogy.
