Buffy MMO to be both PC game AND a magical unicorn!

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Although Multiverse announcing a new Massive Multiplayer Online Buffy the Vampire Slayer game should be cause for cheers and jubilation, most fans seem to be taking the news with a grain of salt. Not only have they never released their own game, it seems they’ve also cried “Joss Whedon-based MMO!” before when they announced a similar Firefly based project in 2006. This combined with the press release claims that the game would be playable as “either as a fully immersive 3D environment or as a Flash-based 2D game,” which ToplessRobot described as the equivalent of saying “it will be both a PC game and a magical unicorn, which you can ride.”

The big bad (in Fray’s future) reveal last issue looked like Dark Willow (the Dark Phoenixesque turn she took when she flayed Warren for shooting Tara) to me more than Vampire Willow.

She has the black eyes and forehead veins. I don’t remember Vamp Willow having those characteristics. Thoughts?

Here is a short pilot/teaser for the abandoned Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated series. Development never got further than this short video because networks didn’t want to commit to a show that was too adult/violent for kids but not right for primetime either.

What about the Cartoon Network? Seems like a perfect fit.

As a longtime Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan (started with season 1 as they aired), I was overjoyed to hear that Joss would be continuing with Season 8 in comic form.

This series really feels like the show to me (more than the few random issues of other Buffy titles picked up over the years) and last issue was no slouch in that department. With Dracula jokes, Willow in the field, an army of Slayers against an unknown force, Renee in bleeding out in mortal peril and Dawn going Godzilla on Tokyo, it seems like old times with a bigger FX budget and a cast of thousands. From the preview images below, it should be quite a show. Can’t wait until next week!

Scheduled for release this August is a new Tarot deck featuring characters from all 7 TV seasons and the 8th season (seen in comic book format). Seen below are the “Devil” (Buffy and Spike) “Magician” (Buffy), “Temperance” (Angel), and “Death” (refresh my memory - did Buffy and the Scooby Gang ever come face to face with the grim Reaper? And did they eat the Salmon Mousse?
