The time has come for the Norman Osborn and his Dark Reign to end. He’s got Asgard under siege against the direct orders of the President of the United States. There is a word for that… treason. He is going down. The only question is how far. Will Norman Osborn survive The Siege?
THE MARVEL BLOCKBUSTER OF THE YEAR!! In the halls of Asgard and on the streets of small town America the entire Universe is gripped in a the greatest battle ever seen: SIEGE!! Lives have been lost! Lines have been drawn! And the battle for Asgard is in full force. The moment for revelations and life-changing moves is here, and for some, this will be the last choice they ever make in this world. What happens next is so epic, so historic, that it changes the entire dynamic of the Marvel Universe. You’re gonna want to be there for this one…trust us.
The White House portion of the teaser above makes it pretty clear how this new Heroic Age is going to come about. Norm’s in TROUBLE with a capital T. He’s wanted for treason. And that doesn’t even take into account the evidence gathered by the former New Warriors detailing payments made to the U-Foes for their role in deliberately staging a Stamfordesque slaughter of American citizens in Chicago. He’s screwed.
The Avengers will kick Normie’s green butt all the way to Hela and back. I kinda hope he is killed by Daken as foretold in Dark Wolverine or they just let the Asgardians have him, but they’ll probably do the right thing and turn him into the government to stand trial. When the dust settles the President will be so grateful to Nick Fury, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor that he’ll push the paperwork through fast on smashing H.A.M.M.E.R..

UPDATE: MORE Avengers Line-up News!!! The fourth Avengers title joining Avengers, New Avengers and Secret Avengers is Avengers Academy, written by Avengers: The Initiative scribe Christos Gage and featuring art by Mike McKone. I LOVED McKone’s work on Teen Titans and am so psyched to see him get an ongoing title. There will be more Academy students revealed this week and I’ll update this post as they become available…
For now we just have these teasers showing a girl with the codename Veil, a cute boy in a lightning bolt danskin codenamed Striker, a lizard-boy dinomorph named Reptil (who was seen in the Initiative), a literal iron man named Fortress (who looks like he could use a makeover upgrade) a possible taskmistress in Finesse and a girl nuke in Hazmat. Most of these characters are new except for Reptil and possibly Veil. Apparently there was a “Veil” running around during Civil War but no word on if this is that one, the original Veil (thought killed by Pyro of Freedom Force) or someone new.
I want to like this title, but am underwhelmed with the roster thus far. But then again it might matter more who the FACULTY will be… I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that the Young Avengers (Vision, Hulkling, Wiccan, Speed, Patriot, Stature, Hawkingbird) will have something to do with this title, but their are a lot of possible Avengers still unaccounted on the rosters of The New Avengers or Avengers rosters… Some may end up as-yet-to-be-identified Secret Avengers, but who is still missing or unidentified and shows promise to teach at Avengers Academy? Justice, Firestar, Wasp, Ms Marvel, Mockingbird, Wonder Man, Arachne, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Iron Fist, Tigra, War Machine, Falcon, USAgent, Jocasta and Marvel Boy are a few I’d like to see.
Lets hope some of the potentials heavy hitters above show up as faculty and anchor this title with a cast of unknowns.

UPDATE: MORE Avengers Line-up News!!!Finally a surprise! Today’s addition to the New Avengers Roster is none other than Aunt Petunia’s favorite nephew, the ever-lovin’ blue-eyed Thing himself! I’ll be interested to see the whys and wherefores on this… Has he had a falling out with his Fantastic family? or is Benjy just bored and looking to schedule a little extra “clobberin time” each week? He IS poker buddies with Luke and Logan so it’s not that odd, but what gets him on the team? Will the FF be making a Siege appearance? You’d think they would chime in.
Every day this week, Marvel has revealed a member of the new “New Avengers” title launching in June. But the roster hasn’t exactly been earth shaking as the line-up thus far includes only people who were already on, or heavily associated with the team. The biggest surprise is seeing Luke Cage’s wife Jessica Jones back in her retconned Jewel outfit. A fifth member will be revealed tomorrow so stay tuned for that update.
So thus far we have Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Jewel and The Thing as “New Avengers” and Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Spider-Woman and Hawkeye are “Avengers.”
So who does that leave to be the so-called “Secret Avengers?” Whose missing from these teams? Wasp, Steve Rogers (Cap in Avengers is wearing Bucky’s Cap outfit), Ms Marvel, Mockingbird, Vision, Hulkling, Wiccan, Speed, Patriot, Stature, Hawkingbird (I’ll keep calling her that until she becomes the Taskmistresses she SHOULD be), Wonder Man, Arachne, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Amadeus Cho, Doctor Voodoo, Iron Fist, War Machine, She Hulk, Falcon, Black Widow, USAgent, Jocasta, Black Panther, Beast and Marvel Boy. Other suggestions included: Valkyrie, Nova and Moon Knight.
Or perhaps the “Secret Avengers” will be a team of Thunderbolt types led by Steve Rogers?
And the question of who will be enrolling at the Avengers Academy is as much a mystery as who will be teaching them!!! Lets hope some of the potentials above show up as faculty!

We have the Marvel Trinity (Captain America, Iron Man and Thor) back in action again, but will they be able to get along once The Siege is over? Captain America “died” because of the treatment he received from teammate Tony Stark. And when Thor resurfaced and found out what went on during Civil War he was equally displeased with Iron Man. Siege Aftermath: Avengers Prime is a 5 issue miniseries starting in June from writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alan Davis that takes place in the days following “Siege,” but before May’s new “Avengers” series launches.
In the current event miniseries, “Siege,” they will be forced to temporarily put aside their differences and work together to stop the villainous Norman Osborn and his ally Loki from gaining ultimate power. But what happens after that? Thor, Steve and Iron Man all find themselves pulled into an adventure that places them down in some unfamiliar territory and forces them to rely on each other as they get to the bottom of things.
Hmmm, why have they blacked out the outfit Steve Rogers is wearing???
The SIEGE has ended and taken its toll on both sides of the battle field. The event seven years in the making has claimed many lives, and in this, its final chapter, a universe comes together to mourn (CLASSIFIED). The shocking death that ended the fight and gave birth to a new Heroic Age is remembered as a writer (CLASSIFIED) returns to lead the farewells.
The 2nd image is the cover to another title chronicaling the aftermath of Siege… Fallen. The cover shows a number of heroes (Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor, Ms. Marvel, and Black Widow?) holding up the corpse of a well-coiffed mystery figure (that looks like Sentry or maybe Quicksilver).

UPDATE: MORE Avengers Line-up News!!! As part of their planned reboot of all Avengers titles to celebrate the dawn of THE HEROIC AGE, Marvel has released a number of “Secret Avengers” teaser images showing silhouettes of the members of the 2nd Avengers title slated to fill the void with the end of the New, Mighty, Dark and Initiative books. Secret Avengers hits shelves in May and will feature the creative team of Eisner Award-winning writer Ed Brubaker and current “Dark Avengers” artist Mike Deodato.
With Iron Man, Thor, Bucky Barnes, Hawkeye and Spider Woman already claimed for Bendis and Romita Jr’s Avengers team, the speculation about candidates for the Secret Avengers is still wide open with possibilities like Scarlet Witch (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE), Valkyrie, Ms Marvel, Spider Man, The Beast, Wonder Man, Nova, Moon Knight, Justice or even a revamped-in-time-for-the-movie War Machine all potentially available for membership. But those are just some obvious choices… what if a Dark Avenger goes light? Perhaps we’ll see some new blood?
Since they are canceling 4 titles… you should expect 4 new ones. In addition to these Secret Avengers and the heavy hitter Avengers, we’ll see Avengers Academy – an Initiative type series about training fledgling heroes (written by Christos Gage with art by Mike McKone) and New Avengers (Spider-Man, Wolverine, Power Man, Jewel and The Thing)

With the final issues of New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Dark Avengers and Avengers: The Initiative looming in the not to distant future. Marvel has begun to let us know what they have in store for the Marvel Universe after The Siege. Brian Michael Bendis will be writing a new title called simply Avengers (wanna bet it will use the old numbering?) with art by John Romita Jr. (AAAARRRRGHHHH!!!!! I HATE HIS WORK! He’s not as bad as some of the hacks out there but definitely on my list of highly overrated artists). I may opt not to read this title if they don’t bring a REAL artist in on it by issue 6 and I will tell them so.
Really bums me out that this is a flagship title and they put a merely adequate artist like Romita on it. Unimpressive. Yuk. They just need to yank Carlos Pacheco out of the Ultimate universe and give him this book. RIGHT NOW!

It has been announced that the end of their current epic event “Siege,” Marvel will also be bringing ALL of the Avengers titles to a close as well. Yes you read that right. New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Dark Avengers and Avengers The Initiative are all canceled as of April. Now you KNOW that’s not the end of the story but with the exception of the issue solicits (click cover and read captions), its all we have right now. In addition to the final issues of each title, there is also a special one-shot by Avengers scribe Brian Michael Bendis and Ultimates artists Bryan Hitch!!! Now as to what will follow that, Let the speculation begin!
 |
I hope that out of the ashes rises a new title just called Avengers that either resumes the old numbering where it left off, or adds the 100 issues of New and Mighty to take them to #604 (I think). As for other possible books, I don’t know. I like Dark Avengers so I hope there is still room for a book that dark in the bright light of this new Heroic Age that is to follow the Siege.
I’m SO glad that Marvel FINALLY remembered that they have their OWN Trinity! With Iron Man, Thor and Captain America together again a new Heroic Age is upon us! I am pretty psyched about this but hope that Marvel can pull it off without losing all of the edge and angst they’ve built up during the Civil War, Secret Invasion and Dark Reign.
I don’t want to just go back to the way things were before it all happened, we’ll need a whole new status quo. So what will it be? All 3 of them as the founders of the Avengers? Iron Man back at S.H.I.E.L.D.? Captain America taking over the Initiative or starting a H.A.M.M.E.R. replacement called S.I.C.K.L.E.? Thor for President? Who knows?

This issue focuses on the origins of Trauma and a confrontation between Penance (Robby Baldwin a.k.a. Speedball) and his former teammates the New Warriors (who are unaware Penance is their old friend under the control of Norman Osborn).
Can the Avengers Resistance and the Initiative unite to defeat a classic Marvel villain…or would that be a Nightmare? The lord of horrific dreams has invaded the physical world…and now that the Hood is no longer empowered by Dormammu, the only chance to defeat this near-omnipotent fiend is for two rival squads of heroes and villains to join forces. But how can they fight together if they’re stabbing each other in the back? Guest-starring Tigra, Justice and Taskmaster!
Turns out Trauma’s birth was engineered by Nightmare who had possessed the man who fathered him long enough to conceive in an origin similar to that of the Teen Titan empath known as Raven (daughter of otherdimensional demon Trigon who continually attempts to use her as some kind of gateway).

It’s been awhile since we the old rallying cry invoked the same nostalgic feelings. I’ve already said my peace about retconned characters, but it seems like The Unspoken is merely a means to an end… generic omega level threat to make it necessary to bring together all the Avengers.
As the epic battle with The Unspoken threatens all of Earth, the team-up you’ve been waiting for finally happens as members of the Mighty Avengers, New Avengers, Young Avengers, and the Avengers Initiative unite to fight a foe that no single hero could withstand! How can Marvel fit so many Avengers in one issue? Against the most powerful Inhuman of all, with the greatest weapon in history, do they have a choice? All that plus a special appearance by the Dark Avengers.
The following unlettered pages of Mighty Avengers #30 art accompanied CBR’s interview with author Dan Slott. It looks like quite an impressive group. I haven’t been so psyched to see the Avengers Assemble since George Perez’ recent run.
I’m also REALLY happy to see Wiccan and Hulkling showing up more often. As much as I want to see a regular Young Avengers title again, I also like seeing them do their heroic thing alongside the big boys. I’m hoping they’ll join the Mighty line-up on a regular basis – looking good on the cover of next issue along with the team.

Blastaar’s alien army has seized 42, the Initiative’s prison in the Negative Zone. Someone has to take it back, and the Taskmaster has assembled a team to do just that.
But when Komodo looks around her at the squad of Z-list super-villains she’s supposed to go into battle with, she wonders if this is a recovery job…or a suicide mission! And when she encounters familiar faces who had been incarcerated within the prison, will they be friend or foe? Also, because you demanded it–the return of Butterball!

Makes sense that the heroes best off with their powers disrupted are those WITHOUT powers. Prepare to see Mockingbird kick some ass…
Oh man, it is not a good day for the New Avengers. Someone has invented a power disruptor and unleashed it in New York City. The heroes have fallen. Some are hurt bad, others near death.
Who will rise to the challenge and save the day? A very important DARK REIGN issue. Something big happens. Not going to tell you what it is but it happens on page 17, panel 4.

I kinda lost interest in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe after they killed Scarlet Witch (why can’t anyone write a strong female character) and crippled Northstar (why can’t the gay couple get a happy ending), but this looks to be worth picking up. Carlos Pacheco and Mark Millar on Avengers should rock no matter what universe is the setting.
Guess who’s back!! That’s right, kids, MARK MILLAR (THE ULTIMATES, WOLVERINE: OLD MAN LOGAN) and superstar artist CARLOS PACHECO (AVENGERS FOREVER, X-MEN) blast into the Ultimate Universe for a mind-blowing, heart-pounding and gut-wrenching event of epic proportions!
When a highly-classified secret threatens Captain America, only the newly-returned Nick Fury has the tools to bring ‘em in! As the first of a series of blockbuster arcs begins: PROJECT AVENGERS is a go!
I didn’t read Ultimatum, but from this death toll I found it looks like they’ll be short a number of key characters.

I will be interested to see how this mixture of old and new meshes. Stature seems none too pleased to see the Scarlet Witch, even if it is just her astral form. I cannot say I blame her though, bitch did cap her pa. Temporary insanity may work as a legal excuse, but it just does not go far in appeasing grieving relatives. Also how stable can Hank Pym REALLY be as he takes on yet another heroic identity while mourning poor Janet?
Avengers Assemble! Scarlet Witch! Hank Pym! Hercules! The Vision! Stature! Hulk! Jocasta! U.S. Agent! Iron Man! On the last patch of Earth, they’re the only heroes left standing. And the enemy they must defeat…was once one of their own. It’s Avenger versus Avenger! And at stake is nothing less than the fabric of reality itself! Join Dan Slott and Khoi Pham for the next part in this all-new chapter of MARVEL’S MIGHTIEST SUPER HERO TEAM!
I love the triptych covers, but are there variants? I found this previously leaked image of a different Mighty Avengers triptych.

Mockingbird was the big surprise return from Secret Invasion, and with New Avengers: The Reunion #1 (of 4). Now she’s escaped Skrull captivity to find her place in an unfamiliar world that has thought her dead for years. Oh yeah, AND she has to deal with the Dark Reign.
Will the Mr. and Mrs. Smith of Marvel be able to reclaim the love they once had for each other? What deadly secret did Mockingbird bring back with her that could tear apart the New Avengers and the entire Marvel Universe? Don’t miss all the fast-paced action as Ronin and Mockingbird face the terrors of Dark Reign in New Avengers: The Reunion #1[of 4]!
I am SOOOO relieved to see the the costumes seen on cover #1 are just flashbacks to the good old days and the ones on the cover to the right are current. I just couldn’t picture Bobbi just picking up where she left off and wearing her old hot pants. The new costume is much more appropriate – reminds me of the initial Birds of Prey makeover of Black Canary. Not in that is resembles it but in that it both makeovers aim to elevate a strong female character from cheesecake to the big leagues.

I’m REALLY happy about the return of the Scarlet Witch and the lineup looks great with a perfect balance of old and new. TOP image from Left to right: Jocasta, The Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Hercules, USAgent, Iron Man, Vision, Stature and the Hulk. Thanks to a scantily clad Modred, Wanda’s often lost brother Quicksilver is host to the demonic Elder God known as Chthon, but from the cover of #124 hopefully Pietro soon recovers and perhaps may be added to the Mighty roster.
But as happy as I am to see Wanda out of Limbo (just an expression – not suggesting she was with Ilyanna) all the magical chaos seems a bit forced. It’s an obvious stacking of events to create a magical evil big enough to necessitate Wanda’s reappearance.

We knew she was alive. We saw a depowered versions of her living a seemingly normal and peaceful life in a house in the woods at the base of a mountain under the care of her “Aunt Agatha”. Whether this is actually her former mentor Agatha Harkness resurrected remains to be seen.
IT ALL STARTS HERE! A new roster! One of the team’s most powerful foes! And one of the most popular and requested Avengers returns to the fold! When darkness reigns and chaos falls, there’s no room for compromise, no time to run and hide. The world needs EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES! But after the events of Secret Invasion, is HANK PYM ready to rejoin their ranks? And what is the secret that haunts him, a secret dating back to the earliest days of the original team? Join Dan Slott and Khoi Pham for a new age of ALL OUT AVENGERS ACTION! Special giant-sized issue! 36 pages of all-new story and art! Guest starring: NEW AVENGERS, DARK AVENGERS, YOUNG AVENGERS, and CLASSIC AVENGERS!
I for one am glad to see the Scarlet Witch back in the pages of the Avengers where she belongs. I can’t wait to see a relationship develop between her and her children. It was her break with them that supposedly drove her over the edge – so what affect will 2 teenaged twins have on her? And one of them gay? Also I hope she is good to her son’s boyfriend. I trust Wanda will be wonderful with them both if she’s located her marbles.
The whole disassembled debacle was yet another another attempt to reign in a female character who had just become TOO powerful (see Phoenix). Oh yeah, this issue sees the return of Jocasta and the all new Wasp to the Avengers roster!

With the the chaos that the Skrull invasion left in its wake and a psychopath such as Norman Osborn a.k.a. the Green Goblin now holding the keys to the kingdom, the need for a group of rogue Avengers operating outside the rules is even more urgent. Superhero registration was bad enough with Tony Stark in charge. If Norman plans on running the superpowered assets of the United States the same way he ran the Thunderbolts, these New Avengers will have their hands full. But Who are they?
