So if you appreciate all the work I do on this blog AND you are a fan of any of the above, PLEASE stop by the Animated Heroes section and see the best current and classic Superhero Animation available on DVD.
Now I wish THIS had been the Teen Titans cartoon series. I hated that anime travesty. This looks a lot more like what I wanted for DC’s legacy teens… something that has more in common with Justice League Unlimited than Pokemon. YOUNG JUSTICE is an all-new series from DC Entertainment and produced by Warner Bros. Animation.
In YOUNG JUSTICE, being a teenager means proving yourself over and over – to peers, parents, teachers, mentors and, ultimately, to yourself. But what if you’re not just a normal teenager? What if you’re a teenage super hero? How much harder will it be to prove yourself in a world of super powers, super villains and super secrets?
Are you ready to come of age in such a world? Are you ready for life or death rites of passage? Are you ready to join the ranks of the great heroes and prove you’re worthy of the Justice League?
They list Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis (a reimagined Arrowette? or is it Wonder Girl Cassie Sandsmark? I think the former) as the members of Young Justice. So who’s the guy in the lower right corner? Is that Soul Man Aqualad? Why is he the most prominently featured? He looks like the affirmative action character Spyke that Marvel added to that X-Men series a few years back. If they want to be more multicultural why not include Cyborg? or Thunder? or Lightning? (from Outsiders and JSA) OR Static? Will we see other Young Justice allies like Secret, Empress or L’il Lobo?
Not really loving the cargo pants on Conner, but I generally like the look of the rest.
The Simpsons opening sequence begins almost every episode since the shows premiere December 17, 1989. On February 15 2009, a new animated HD opening sequence replaced the previous one (which had aired for 19 seasons) with numerous changes and additions.
It is only the second permanent revision of the opening sequence in the show’’s entire history. the first of which occurring with the premiere of the show’’s second season.
I saw the first one at WickedGayBlog and it spawned a youtube search revealing the rest. For your amusement… the peculiar commercials of Durex Condoms.
Oh MY GOD! This is the most brilliant cartoon I have ever had the good fortune to personally witness. PLEASE tell your friends! and tell them to tell two friends and so on, share it on you own blogs, show it to yo mamma, whatever. just spread it virally.
As usual, Stan starts out on the ridiculously uninformed side *who wears assless chaps on a cruise to Mykonos? Everyone knows that Greece is too hot for that… a simple leather studded banana hammock is more de rigeur.
… Of course, Stan eventually comes around, in his own way.
If you saw Batman: Gotham Knight, then you likely saw the exclusive sneak peek at DC Universe’s Wonder Woman on Disc 1. ComicsContinuum had some news about that movie and a few other animated gems planned from DC Animated. They mention a February release date at a to-be-announced convention and that Wonder Woman is an original story from Gail Simone and Michael Jelenic. The official site has also launched.

Queerty made another great find with “Dial M for Monkey: Barbequor,” a 1996 banned “backup” segment from Dexter’s Laboratory. The episode was removed from broadcast syndication after complaints (supposedly 1) were made about the “effeminate” parody of Silver Spooner. I usually get annoyed at stereotypical depictions of gay characters, but I admit the Silver Spooner cracked me up even more than the Galactus inspired “Barbequor.”

I went to see Spike and Mike’s latest at The Victoria on 16th (in San Francisco). As usual there were definitely some sick and twisted cartoons (Rats on Cocaine in “Pregnant”) comes to mind. But I enjoyed the show. I’ve loved these animation festivals ever since I saw my first freshmen year at Boston University, so i always try to get there when i see on playing… Here is a preview of this years lineup.
Some sick and twisted videos from yesteryear (some may be officially “sick and twisted” from previous shows, some may not) after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »
The Adventures of Mark Twain is a stop motion animated film directed by Will Vinton (best known for “The California Raisins” animation). It was released in 1985 the UK as Comet Quest. The movie was supposedly inspired by the following Mark Twain quote…
“I came in with Halley’s Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year (1910), and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don’t go out with Halley’s Comet. The Almighty has said, no doubt: ‘Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.’”

One of my favorite animated clips of all time. From the JLU series finale, Destroyer. Superman shows everyone favorite Apokolyptian despot who’s boss. I would have liked to see a bit of this action in Countdown #1. But instead Supes sits on the sidelines to watch a family squabble.
Although we have seen the last of the Legion of Super Heroes (I’m genuinely saddened and hope at least they put out a nice collection), those with the need for a steady DC universe cartoon fix needn’t give up all hope. The next DC cartoon to come down the path will be The Brave and The Bold, and just like the different DC titles by the same name, they will be TEAM UP stories! I’d guess most will be a Batman and… kind of a setup – but maybe they will mix it up like the recent George Perez drawn series.
Here is a bit of Legion art to say goodbye…
and a shot at the art style for the new show (Fridays on Cartoon Network). I’m not loving the look of it. I think , JLU, and Legion were stylized enough – this goes a bit too far.
