I haven’t been this excited about a cartoon since I first saw Justice League (Later Justice League Unlimited). Marvel’s new Wolverine and the X-Men (I understand the reason his name is out front – but still, isn’t that like having a “Hulk and the Avengers” cartoon?) cartoon looks AMAZING!!!! So many familiar faces!
Apparently it has been airing in Canada and overseas for a few months… Any non spoiler comments/reviews?
I was first smitten with Zachary Quinto as Sasan, Tori Spelling’s gay best friend in So NoTORious, long before he became Heroes season 1 big bad. His tenure as the sinister yet sexy Sylar cemented my interest and to have him as the Star Trek’s new Spock is really the last straw. If he gets one more geek role, I’ll be honor bound to stalk him.
His casting as a young Spock in the J. J. Abrams-directed reboot of the Star Trek film franchise was officially announced at the 2007 Comic-Con. Speaking alongside Leonard Nimoy at a press conference to promote the new Star Trek film, Quinto revealed that Nimoy had been given casting approval over who would play the role of the young Spock.
Today, with his Star Trek and Heroes body of work, Quinto hopes to capitalize on his cachet by adding to his artistic endeavors as a producer. Teaming up with Corey Moosa and Neal Dodson, both 2000 graduates of Carnegie Mellon’s School of Drama, he recently formed Before the Door Pictures, a production company named after the school’s acting exercise.
aired 112408 – Heroes: Volume Three – The Eclipse (part 1): More great insight into the characters this week. I felt there was something traumatic about Daphne’s past that was somehow fixed with her speed powers. I was betting on a medical problem resulting in morbid obesity that melted off with a superfast metabolism, but I suppose leg braces are cheaper than a quality fat suit and they have spent enough on FX for her as it is.
The “Sam’s Comics” store sequence was a friendly nod to the comic fanboys who probably still make up a large percentage of the show’s fanbase. It was so great to see a pair of real Hollywood fanboys like Seth Green and Breckin Meyer making cameos on one of their favorite shows.
Lil Hiro’s concept of the comic book store as a great repository of knowledge is wonderful, And I look forward to seeing what else he can learn from his 4-color oracle. Reminds me how I got through a college mythology class largely due to issues of Wonder Woman, the Teen Titans and Thor.
I do wonder how many issues did Isaac Menendez send in before Sylar cut his head open? I know they art gets sent ahead, but he died at least 6 months ago Heroestime, wouldn’t they have found a new writer/artist?. Also Isaac’s paintins didn’t have lettering did they? So who is the “writer” who can see the future?
FULL EPISODE AT HULU.COM
I’m sure a few someones will have a list of gripes about the episode and I’ll report on those later – just enjoy a great chapter in the adventure for now.
Well known fanboy, former werewolf and son of Dr. Evil, Seth Green will be guest starring on tonight’s Heroes with former Garfield owner, fellow Heroes fan and collaborator on Cartoon Network’s Robot Chicken, Breckin Meyer.
The pair will be playing the owners of Sam’s Comics and recognize Hiro and Ando from 9th Wonders.
They no doubt took pay checks, but Seth Green and Breckin Meyer didn’t want to guest-star on NBC’s Heroes for the money.
The actors, , simply wanted to fulfill a genre desire.
“I’ve asked over and over and over again to be on the show and then eventually I guess I wore them down,” Green said.
“I’m a big fan of the show,” Meyer said. “I’ve seen every episode.”
The roles — which are featured in Monday’s episode, “The Eclipse — Part 1″ — came about shortly after Comic-Con International in San Diego last summer, where Green and Meyer were promoting Robot Chicken and Heroes staged a panel, led by recently released co-executive producer Jeph Loeb.
“I have been after Jeph Loeb since the show came on. ‘How do I get on that show?’,” Green said. “And then he called me and it was like, ‘Alright, the time has come.’ And he said, ‘Do you know anybody, because we’ve got this other part?’ I was like, ‘Well Breckin Meyer
, to tell you the truth.’ And he was baffled. He was like, “Breckin would never do this.’ And I said, ‘I bet he will. I’ll call him.’”
Geoff Johns definitely seems to be a fan of the Legion of Superheroes…
Clark Kent’s boyhood pals have shown up in the pages of his current arcs on “Justice Society of America” and “Action Comics” as well as being the central focus of his fan favorite “Final Crisis” tie-in, “Legion of 3 Worlds” with artist George Perez.
So who better to introduce the Legion of Super-Heroes into the “Smallville” mythos than Johns?
Geoff Johns, former assistant to Richard Donner, said it has “always been a dream of mine to work with a director much the same way I watched [screenwriter] Brian Helgeland work with Richard Donner during ‘Conspiracy Theory’” and he got his wish with this project…
Whether it be Gary Frank on ‘Action Comics’ or Ivan Reis on ‘Green Lantern’ or Ethan Van Sciver on ‘The Flash,’ the idea is that I am the writer but the artists are essentially the directors. So working with a director on set like that, and seeing him bring the Legion to life. Being there to help support that vision and work on the story and the script and the dialogue and everything, is a culmination of everything I like doing.

Not sure how I feel about 10 year old Hiro yet. Sure, it’s a convenient way to recapture some of the character’s adorable 1st season enthusiasm, but it’s a bit transparent. I also didn’t totally get how that happened. I will be rewatching the whole thing today as popapathy missed it last night and I want to watch with him.
I’m warming to a depowered Peter. He’s a heroic enough character that a lack of flashy powers isn’t going to stop him. It doesn’t stop Batman, Robin or Captain America. I’d like to see him show more ingenuity though – there can’t ALWAYS be a handy exposed pipe full of flammable gas. I do hope the coming eclipse does give him a new powerset though.
Also did anyone else notice that Peter now has futurePeter’s scar?!?!? He got it when Sylar telekinetically tossed him out the window after Arthur stole his powers. One mystery solved!
And the full episode via hulu…
I hope we get more info on Sylar’s power – it seems like they are beginning to suggest that the various forms of power mimicry that we have seen (Peter Petrelli – empathy absorbtion, Sylar – creepy brain fiddling, and Arthur Petrelli – power stealing) may in fact be different aspects of the same power. Arthur seems to have a better understanding of the “hunger” that accompanies Sylar’s power than Sylar does. And how is that possible unless they have the same power?
It makes sense when you look at Matt’s dad Maury and the evolution we’ve seen of their telepathic abilities. As they grow stonger and more confident in their abilities, their skill increases as well. I bet Sylar will eventually be able to steal powers just like his dear old biodad.
Rainbow was a Sesame Street style British children’s tv series which aired twice weekly from 1972 to 1992. In 1979, the cast and crew of Rainbow made a special exclusive sketch for the internal Thames TV staff Christmas tape (not to be broadcast) featuring plenty of deliberate adult humor.
The episode was never shown at the time, but became famous after being aired on Victor Lewis-Smith’s Channel 4 programme TV Offal (1997) and was jokingly referred to as “the pilot episode”
Melissa Etheridge and her partner beam their opinion to the Oprah Winfrey Show. Thanks Oprah! Stand your ground Melissa! – I’d like to see you take that not paying taxes thing to the test.
Wish I had the ball to do that – but I wouldn’t last 2 minutes in prison, so I’ll probably keep paying despite the lack of equal rights. Now if there were a few million of us telling them to screw themselves and pay for their own shit, I might be bolder…
This is the 3rd time I’ve recreated this post due to the server induced technical difficulties – let’s hope it stays this time.
SPOILERIFIC OBSERVATIONS: OK, who ELSE thinks that Elle is gonna wind up as Sylar’s future baby momma? After what we saw on Monday, we now know that Elle probably blames herself for the monster that Sylar became. He sought redemption – even attempted suicide rather than kill again, but she set him back on the murderous path. If he is ever able to defeat the beast within, I’m sure she’ll be there for him. It takes a redeemed sociopath to love a redeemed sociopath.
If they introduce another new character who can paint the future, he should wear full body armor and a protective helmet – seems to be a doomed powerset.
I don’t get the low ratings this season. There were many things wrong with season 2… too many characters, slow pacing, Maya’s and Hiro’s subtitled storylines (just weren’t as compelling as Hiro’s introduction in season 1) and most of all the big climactic event they were trying to stop was avoided by not dropping something. Talk about anti-climactic! Thus far, Volume Three: Villains has masterfully avoided all those pitfalls and yet all people and critics can do is complain!!!
November 10th Villains was an intriguing peek into the past of Heroes, exposing previously unrevealed connections and motivations between significant events. I know retconned stories often seem forced, and the timeline does seem a bight tight at times, but all-in-all I found the revelations to be both fascinating and major eye-openers.
It seems that some are determined to bitch about the show no matter how good the episodes get. Newsarama posted a whiney post-game bitchfest after Mondays show that was a nitpicky rant complaining about Clair being related to eleven characters (Petrelli grandparents, bio-dad Nathan, bio-uncle Peter, two half-siblings via Nathan, bio-mom Meredith, her bio-uncle Flint, her adoptive brother, and her adoptive parents) and the timeline being off.
The only explanation I can find for the low ratings is that many of the people who jumped on the Heroes bandwagon first season were lemmings who stopped watching mid-way through season 2 and didn’t return for season 3. The rest of the dropped viewers just didn’t care enough about the show after the long writers strike. Firing the writers who not only were very instrumental in Heroes initial success but also who have been delivering a fantastic season is both unfair and unwise and will do nothing to bring back the lost viewers.
