The winner of my recent Magic Mike poll, Matthew Staton Bomer was born October 11, 1977 in Spring Texas, a suburb of Houston. His father, John Bomer was a Dallas Cowboys draft pick and played from 1972 to 1974. Matt attended Klein High School in Klein Texas with Pushing Daisies star Lee Pace. Both also acted at The Alley Theatre in Houston.
Bomer graduated from Carnagie Mellon University in 2001 then moved from Pittsburgh PA to New York City where he worked on stage until getting a start in daytime TV on the soap opera All My Children. He was soon portraying Ben Reade on Guiding Light (from 2001 to 2003).
In 2003, Matt made his move to prime time with a role opposite Eliza Dushku on the sci-fi show Tru Calling as tru’s "ill-fated" love interest Luc. The next year he appeared on the nighttime drama North Shore as well as in the Jodie Foster thriller, Flightplan. Bomer was in the 2006 slasher prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. He was also set to don a cape and tights for Superman Returns until Bryan Singer took over directorial duties and decided to go another way with Brandon Routh.
2007 saw Bommer costarring in the short-lived midseason replacement series Traveler and in the recurring role of secret agent Bryce Larkin on the everyman spy series, Chuck (2007-2009). In October 2009, Matt Bomer found his own road to stardom with the lead role of con artist extraordinaire turned FBI consultant Neal Caffrey on White Collar. Now a fan favorite, Matt Bomer won the Breakthrough Male Television Performer of 2010 from Movieline’s Breakthrough Awards and was chosen #1 on BuddyTV’s 2011 list of TV’s Sexiest Men.
Matt Bomer was one of a few actors who are known as gay to industry insiders. Bomer originally dodged gay rumours by declining to comment, but the actor eventually stepped out of the closet when he publically thanked his partner publicist Simon Halls and their 3 children Kit (5 years old), Walker, and Henry (3 years old, twins) while accepting the New Generation Arts and Activism Award for his work in the fight against HIV/AIDS. in 2012, Bomer was awarded an "Inspiration Award" alongside partner Simon Halls at the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network’s (GLSEN).
Matt has made an appearance on GLEE as Blaine’s semi-douchy actor/model older brother Cooper Anderson. In 2012 he joined the all star cast of "8," Director Dustin Lance Black’s play about California’s Anti-Marriage Equality Proposition 8.
To the delight of his many fans, Matt Bomer was tapped to join Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello and Alex Pettyfer in the 2012 male stripper movie… Magic Mike. If you actually need a reason the rent or buy the DVD, it contains the deleted scene of Matt shaking his fine ass and bountiful basket in a itty bitty thong during his Living Ken Doll striptease.
