I’m a longtime Alex Ross fan and have been wearing his Bush feeds on lady Liberty regularly since I found it at Whatever in the Castro. If you want to buy em online… try these links.
The poetic photos of Parisian duo Julien et Stephane also know as Exterface always fascinate me and their latest series “The Cosmo Show” is no exception. Their memorable soft yet crisp images always tell a story, and this time it is a statement about plastic America through use of patriotic American imagery and iconography and a hot model.
The timing of this sexy sendup of all things American cannot be coincidental. But all things considered with the state of things in the good old U.S.A., Exterface was kind.
While checking out some of my usual online haunts, I discovered these gems and knew I had to share… I’ll have to see if they have any old issues of Marvel Illustrated at the comic book store when I go later to get todays comics.
Every year a fresh throng of costumed geeks descends upon San Diego. Most of them are scantily clad women, but a few of the guys were looking pretty sexy this year. My personal favorite is Rocketboy (a model hired to promote a new comic series). The Gay Comic Geek and his boyfriend Steve look Marvelous and The sexy Hawk and Dove look awesome as well. If you were there and have any hot shots of fanboys in spandex, send them to fanboi@heroesnhunks.com
While recently working on a Gloss Magazine advertisement for ACTIVATE!, I got to work with some really hot images from popular photographer Justin Monroe. He was the cover photographer for GLOSS magazine’s June 13th Pride issue, and is the subject of a feature in their July 11th issue as well.
Justin Monroe’s evocative images are impossible moments of fantasy made real. The following is he Gods and Monsters series and will be showing up for the current ACTIVATE! campaign. Check out some of his other amazing series at his website justinmonroe.com
And YES that IS Falcon Studios favorite Eric Rhodes.
I already posted MY choices… here are the ACTUAL winners! The guys at Pulp Secret unveil the winner’s or Project Rooftop’s latest drawing contest… Superman Man of Style. But first they talk Batman R.I.P. (they can’t follow it either), Walking Dead and Cable.
One of my favorite comics related blogs is Project Rooftop - think Queer (or metrosexual - I know nothing about the artists’ proclivities) eye for the Superguy. They have teamed up with Pulp Secret and Jim Hanley’s Universe for their latest drawing challenge…
Project Rooftop regularly runs drawing contests that require redesigning a known iconic comic book hero’s costume. They usually just want a redesign of the costume, but this time they expanded it to be a reimagining of the character from the ground up. here are some of my picks. The winners will be announced Monday.
And then there are these 2… by Art Grafunkel and Kristina Diggs. These are interesting enough, but just not Superman. Judges noted one looks like a concept for Zod or the Eradicator and the other like an elseworlds mangaesque “high school Elseworlds Superboi.” Superyaoi ayone? I haven’t seen Hancock yet, but I’m not getting upset until I see just HOW GAY the costumes that Hancock calls “homo” look. If it is anything like the Superboi we see at bottom right, I’d have to say he may have a legitimate point. Its cute though in a supertwink sort of way.
The ever colorful Project Runway 2008 winner Christian Siriano celebrates gay pride traditionally this year… by being introduced by a hot tranny mess and judging pornstars in a swimsuit competition. He banters playfully with Randy Blue boys Chris Rockway and Jeremy Walker (who gives him a good ride).
Here is Christian’s intro and monologue preceding the boys.
these pictures are of various spandex-clad guys I’ve come across over the past year or so. The majority of them were from the plethora of sexy but safe for work skin shots of longtime fanboi favorite SuperUnderwearPerverts.
I am in NO WAY suggesting that the anyone within the photos is gay. These are just cute boys wearing superhero costumes (or sporting superhero symbols) and looking good. Some may be models, Gay spandex fetishists and some may just be straight comic book geeks dressing up so they can bang that pink-haired anime chick they saw at the last convention. No implications about anyone’s sexuality are implied.
a more comedic post of the guys who look more supersilly than superhot may follow later in the week if anyone would be amused… speak up if you want to see that.
I’d already shown some of the leaked Astonishing X-Men Sketchbook images, but thought I’d put the group up for discussion. I REALLY like Simone Bianchi’s “nip-and-tuck redesigns” of existing Astonishing costumes for White Queen, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Angel and Wolverine. And I LOVE the new design for Beast! but…
I don’t know what that Dazzler outfit looks like in color, but I’m definitely NOT loving the moebiusesque touches. It doesn’t look like something she would wear.
And Storm… where should I begin? I like that Bianchi has started with a negative of her original costume, but should have stopped there. Making her suit a multi string bikini DOES NOT befit a queen or a goddess. Leg warmers were tacky even in the 80s (I don’t care if there is an 80’s comeback - ewww). And STRIPES? STRIPES? Then we have a billion dangling coins hanging from a cape that is so long that you can be sure Storm never saw The Incredibles.
I would have added some piping to a white version of her original 2 piece costume and been done with it. I do like the modified headdress though.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has been invaded by superheroes, and no it’s not a setting for a comic book story, it’s the Met’s latest exhibit. Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton says “Superheroes are about issues of the body, identity and transformation, about acting your fantasies and transforming yourself into anyone or anything you want to be. Those are all the things at the heart of fashion.”
