CONTEMPORARY HOMOEROTIC HALL OF FAME NOMINEE: American homoerotic artist Kent Neffendorf was born in 1959 in the state of Texas. After high school, he migrated East to New York City where he studied art and received his BFA at Parsons School of Design. Kent worked as a freelance artist in New York for several years before he headed west in the 80s.
The first monthly gay magazine to publish the illustrations of Kent Neffendorf was Mandate in 1988. But it was far from the last. In the early 90s, Kent’s illustrations appeared often in the fiction publication Friction, and his soon his work began appearing in Men and Freshmen magazines circa 1992.
Kent Neffendorf was published in over 100 issues of popular gay entertainment publications, including: Men, Mandate, Playguy, Freshmen, Torso, Honcho, Inches, In Touch, Indulge, and even The Advocate.
In addition to being featured in many of the biggest gay magazines, the work of Kent Neffendorf also has graced the covers of the novels of Gordon Merrick, Felice Picano and Vincent Virga.
Kent Neffendorf is on the short list of homoerotic artists whose work has been featured by the Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles. He has also exhibited at Leslie Lohman and New York and Eros in San Francisco.
There isn’t much biographical info available on Kent Neffendorf, but I will amend this article if I’m able to track down some more pertinent details about this amazing artist. He tied with Logan for first place in our last poll. Next up… Ben Kimura!
