Homophobic Orson Scott Card to write comic adaption of Bioware’s LGBT-Friendly Dragon Age: Origins
(6 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)This was brought to my attention by the proprietor of “Whatever” (the comic store in the heart of San Francisco’s fabulous Castro where I buy my books). I’d heard of Orson Scott Card (writer of Ender’s Game) in passing due to a blog post on another site (I forget which – if it was yours comment with link) about the cover to Ender’s Game #3 being homoerotic (which is odd considering he’s a devout and outspoken Mormon on the board of the National Organization for Marriage who believes homosexuality is an “acquired characteristic linked to abuse or molestation in childhood”).
Orson Scott Card is the type of bigot who ACTUALLY believes laws against homosexuality should remain on the books to be used against those who are not “discrete” (read that as “closeted and self-loathing”).
Also peculiar is the vast number of articles I find mentioning Ender’s Game being either homoerotic or homophobic. Does anyone read it? It doesn’t seen like that fine a line to me. Not sure how to mistake one for the other… Thoughts?
Well apparently for some ungodly reason he’s been tapped by IDW Publishing and EA Comics to write a comic version of the very gay-friendly Dragon Age: Origins RPG from Bioware. Dragon Age garnered much attention at sites like GayGamer, Kotaku, AfterElton, BitMob and even Telegraph.uk for the ability to play your character as Straight, Gay or Bi and the tastefully suggestive and romantic sex scenes that follows if you seduce the warrior elf Zevranthe with the right conversation.

Until recently, (Dragon Age, Bully, Mass Effect, Fable) playable gay and lesbian characters in videos games were often limited to stereotypical gay NPCs or lesbians meant to titillate the typical straight male gamer. I am very happy to see this sort of option showing up more often. This sort of inclusion in a predominantly straight genre is a heartening example of how the world is changing for the better and can only lead to gay kids growing up feeling not only represented but also accepted and straight kids growing up with the belief that someone being gay is no big deal.
Looks like Zevranthe gets around… so if you play Dragon Age gay and take him for a tumble, you might wanna pick up some buckskin rubbers.

I read Ender’s Game over the summer and yeah I did notice quite a lot of naked boys wrestling each other and stuff like that.

The supposedly homoerotic content side by side with extreme anti-gay beliefs makes me wonder… is the fact that he’s a raging and literally card-carrying homophobe a textbook case of “methinks he doth protest too much?” Any hustlers out there snorting crystal meth with this fucker?

I love Dragon Age – I wasn’t planning on buying it until I did hear that you could have a gay character in it. I decided to buy it and loved the game. It really saddens me they picked that douche Orson to write the comic. I won’t pick it up….I refused to pick up Iron Man when he did that.
I went to their website but only saw where you can input your own email to get updates and didn’t see EA Comics email address at the site.
Funny thing is as cool as it is to have gay sex in the game, the only guy I thought was hot was Alustair who unfortunately is straight but a total HOTTIE….so I made a female character so I could fuck him!

If you went that far to bang Alustair, you might want to find the PC Mod that makes THIS possible…

@Bionic Boy – no it is not like the Elder Scrolls (Oblivion is my all time favorite game) – it is more like the classic Baldur’s Gate games – you make your main character and along the way you find companions who can join you – depending on your actions, your companions might end up romancing you or hating you – the dialogue between the characters is AWESOME – they pick on each other too – beautiful graphics
@fanboi – Thanks! I will see if I can find the mod – I like having my character go to the brothel where you can decide if you want a man, woman, both or a “surprise me” which ends up quite horrifying….

Heyo, I got nosy and decided to see where my videos are posted since I just wanna stop by and say hi and such. Luke is right about the mod, but I’ll post a copy and pasted reply I usually send to a lot of people who ask about it:
“From what I understand, there are two mods you can use. One is called EqualLove and the other (that I used) is called MetaGame Items.

The mod I used (MetaGameItems) has improved over the last few months, so it should be pretty easy to run without any issues. It comes with a few extra goodies that I personally just delete since all I’m interested in is being able to get into Alistair’s pants, lol. Unfortunately I lost all my saved game data so I wasn’t able to do any of the other things I wanted to do with the mod, but maybe when I’m less distracted I’ll give it one more go. It took me about a month to finish Dragon Age the first time around (playing off and on) so we’ll see. ttyls, great site, definitely favoriting.

I hope as someone who blogs and plas the game you’ll mention the issue many will have with Orson Scott Card penning the comic version of a LGBT friendly video game… Looking to get as many bloggers to repeat the contact info as possible.
