Blackest Night: Wonder Woman – Maxwell Lord’s Back!
I was sure that Diana was going to be significantly changed since they showed the blacked out mystery Wonder Woman figure in DC Direct’s Blackest Night series 4. I considered that perhaps she might end up a White Lantern (I have a feeling we still may see some), but the solicited cover on #2 of this 3 issue mini-series cinched it as a White Lantern wouldn’t be fighting Mera.
Black Lantern Maxwell Lord has risen and he seeks revenge and retribution for his death at the hands of Diana. Look for unexpected changes to await Wonder Woman in the course of this series as she plays a major role in the War of Light against the Blackest Night.
Fan-favorite writer Greg Rucka returns to chronicle the adventures of the Amazing Amazon in the DC Universe’s darkest hour! With the beautiful images of Secret Six artist Nicola Scott!
Any ideas about what the “unexpected changes” could be? I’m still guessing White Lantern since we already saw her as Black Lantern in Blackest Night #4, so having the big surprise be that she turns into a Black Lantern would be no big whoop. But then I’m wrong a lot. That is the problem with guessing.

I think the big reveal will be in issue #3.
I picked up this issue but haven’t read it yet. I was disappointed that I couldn’t pick up the variant cover
Someone up my local store picked both copies…

My store was delayed today because of Thanksgiving last week so i have to wait until tomorrow to get my books. Messing with my comic book Wednesdays sometimes makes me hate holidays.

I’m betting she becomes a Star Sapphire briefly.

makes sense… when scanned by the BL rings she registers love. Also a number of other heroes have been associated with other emotional spectrums… Perhaps a number of characters will become different colored lanterns.

I haven’t had time to stop by my comic store and pick up my weekly titles. Hopefully, I will do so tomorrow afternoon! I will need to pick this title up. Sweet!

I enjoyed this issue. I thought that Diana was handled beautifully by Rucka (as per usual) and that Lord was written just like he used to talk, back in the days of the silly JLA, which made it even creepier. The fact that she showed nothing but love the entire issue was an interesting twist, but the showdown with the guards watching her back was great.

I hope someone will deal with the fact that Diana was completely justified in killing Maxwell Lord in the first place. He had control of Superman and he was willing to kill. It would have been irresponsible and arrogant of her not to.
I don’t want my comics to be bloodbaths, but these guys are like cops with superpowers. Put them in high-stakes situations and there will come a time when they have to take a life. It’s no more immoral than when a cop has to justifiably use their gun.
