Which is stronger… your Lust, Anger or Apathy?
Losing the Prop 8 vote in large part to the direct influence of the out of state Morman political machine left a lot of LGBT Californians with unresolved anger. At the time there was a lot of talk of LGBT boycotts of Mormon business but I hadn’t heard as much about it until recently.
As with its predecessor Twilight, The impending release of New Moon has some calling for a boycott of the film (which is based upon a book by a “devout” Mormon writer and the books are chock full of Mormon ideals) others raving about Jacob’s (Taylor Lautner) amazing abs and the rest generally just don’t care. I’m torn, and haven’t decide yet which camp I’m in, but thought I’d open it to debate. But I have to remind you no matter how hot he is, the boy is jailbait until February 11 2010, so so no fauxtoshopping and set your countdowns now.

So is YOUR anger at an organized religion interfering in an out-of-state political process stronger than the lustful desire to watch the sinewy 30 pounds of muscle that Jacob (Taylor Lautner) put in in action while he runs with the rest of his shirtless pack.
Now I will say that I read the series and while some of the ideas about the vampire mythos were interesting and include a rich history with great story potential, the books themselves were not particularly well written and the peppering with Mormonism is hamfisted. So with very little of Edward (Rober Pattinson), aside from young Mr. Lautner and his shirtless wolfpack, I’m not sure what else New Moon has to offer.

I can live without Twilight.
Stephanie Meyer gives a good chunk of her money to the Mormon church. The Mormon church hates and works to oppress gay people.
We go way too easy on religions. Other hate groups, like the KKK, get the world’s scorn. Just because religious groups have irrational, supernatural we are expected to respect them.
I say stay away from Twilight. There’s plenty of hot shirtless guys that aren’t bankrolling hate groups.
(And don’t get me started on that Narnia stuff!)

Haven’t read any of the Twilight books — tried to read the first one, but, alas, I’m not a 13 year old girl so it held no appeal to me.

The books are so poorly written (I mean worse than the Left Behind series) that it’s an insult to anyone with an IQ higher than a grapefruit. I only made it through the first book before I had to throw it out. Whatever Stephanie Meyer wrote about, it definitely wasn’t about vampires. It’s depresses me that this is what passes for a ‘bestseller’ these days.
I’ll skip the movies because if the books were atrocious, I can only imagine the crap Hollywood has peddled out. Plus, I don’t think the guys are all that ‘hot’ and I won’t give a bigot any of my hard earned money.

New Moon has the same director as Golden Compass so I think the story transcends religious ties. I’ll go. The hacky mormon book author has already been paid off and the films are going to happen anyway. It’s not the story selling the movies – it’s the cute fellas.

Just got back from New Moon. LOTS of gay boys attended. In fact, there was kind of a gay boy section. The film is about what you think it is – 2.5 hours of self indulgent dialogue, virtually non-existent plot and leering hardbody werewolves and vampires. Taylor Lautner makes it all worth it. It’s okay to ogle the 17 year old knowing that he will certainly have a future in film. He’s cute, charismatic and makes you forget all about the other supposed heart throb. One question – since when are cut-offs back in men’s fashion? Maybe just for backwoods werewolves. I don’t see the mormon angle in this picture – none of the characters wore the funny underwear. That would have covered all the hard-earned ab-work.

I saw this on opening day… I will admit I went solely to “witness” Lautner’s rockin’ hot new bod on the BIG screen. That alone was worth each of the 400 pennies I paid for the matinee flick.
My anger towards the Morman Church system and its morons is way up there but that doesn’t stop me from taking the opportunity to see the shirtless (and wet) muscled out Taylor Lautner. I almost feel guilty for saying it but that boy, even at seventeen, oozes sex appeal. The boy is f’ing hot as hell. His chest, abs and ass just won’t quit and that face, eyes, and lips – cute as a puckered pecker!
So… How do I handle the Morman tie-in to New Moon? I write about it on gay blogs, including my own. What a better way to throw it back in their face by letting them know just how much this movie and hottie Lautner appeal to gay men. Shame on the Mormans!
Shame on them for making Lautner look so damn hot and fueling our own fantasies. Ha!
