Since he’s not Sorcerer Supreme anymore, Doctor Stephen Strange needs a new a new path to fulfillment and enlightenment. I’m not sure if Marvel can sell two msytic titles with Doctor Voodoo as the new official Sorcerer Supreme and Strange as his own magic hero, but they are sure going to try. The preview art has a bit of a manga feel that I’m not sure if I like but I’ll give it a few issues.

If the former Master of the Mystic Arts is going to survive the journey, he’ll need some assistance–in the form of a brand-new student!

Fingers crossed his new student is Wiccan, but it’s probably going to be that girl from the bleachers.

I feel a bit sorry for Doctor Strange. Every mini-series he has tries to re-invent him. There was a “Strange” series a few years ago that tried to modernize the doc. It was awful. Clea wore a thong sticking out of her pants. It was tragic.
Then there was BKV’s “The Oath.” Doc had a cool redesign to his costume, but the series was a bit jokey. He had hemorrhoids. Then he showed up in Avengers Dissembled and did what makes every hate Doctor Strange: He was used as a plot device to fix things up and burn up pages and pages with exposition. Ugh!
I hope this time works out. I remember some great Doctor Strange stories from my youth by Roger Stern with Michael Golden and Marshall Rogers on art. Let’s hope his best days are ahead!
