5’11" Australian actor Ryan Kwanten was born November 28th, 1976 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He is of Flemish (Belgian) descent. Ryan has two younger brothers who are also performers, one is in a band and the other at the Conservatorium of Music.

Ryan was discovered when his brother auditioned to get into an acting agency. He’d been waiting in the car and walked in as his brother and the agent walked out. The agent asked Ryan if he was there to audition too. He said no, but auditioned after she asked and ended up the one chosen.

When he was 21, Kwanten portrayed 16 year old Josh Morgan on all 26 episodes of the teen, preteen and children’s television series Spellbinder 2: Land of the Dragon Lord. He also appeared as Ben Lloy on 2 episodes of A Country Practice (one of Australia’s longest-running television dramas).

In 1997, he joined the cast of the Australian soap opera Home and Away, playing lifeguard Vinnie Patterson. Kwanten starred on the show for several years, becoming a sex symbol. He eventually chose to leave the series in 2002, shortly after his character married and became a father.

Ryan Kwanten has since been cast as sexy Jason Stackhouse, Sookie’s loveable meathead lothario brother from HBO’s too hot for primetime vamp drama True Blood (based on Charlaine Harris‘ Southern Vampire Mysteries). Kwanten’s undeniable sex appeal has been put to great use in that series as he appears nude and sweaty or least shirtless in just about every episode.
He has been nominated for a 2009 Scream Award for his role as Jason.

To prepare for a shirtless scene, Kwanten employs a get-ripped-fast trick that can help any man looking forward to a beach weekend. He cuts down on refined carbs, opting for protein and vegetables. He also avoids alcohol, and drinks water or protein or vegetable shakes instead. “It’s boring, but it’s not a crash diet,” he says. “I’m still eating the same amount of food, and I only have to keep it up for a few days.”

In adition to his onging role on True Blood as Jason Stackhouse, Ryan Kwanten can also been seen in the movies (Dead Silence – from the writers and director of Saw, the coming of age football drama America Brown, and Liquid Bridge – a surfing action adventure). I don’t know if he gets a naked as he does in TrueBlood in the movies though. Someone let me know?

I watched a season 1 eps with my boyfriend tonight. Whenever this Adonis gets on screen, I grab my bf’s thigh and whisper “jason stackhoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooouse”. There is nothing like watching this guy in hi-def/blu-ray *swoon*

Pam is my favorite character though she is rarely used…..not a fan of Bill who I find so…..boring.

This guy is beyond a doubt, one of THE hottest guys on tv right now. Him being naked and shirtless half the time is what got me into True Blood.

He really came into his own last season on True Blood. He was so funny, but also really grew as a character. He want through crap with that crazy church (redundant?) and came out a better person. It’ll be interesting to see where he goes next season.
