Come visit Courtney Cox in Cougar Town

Courtney Cox has an eye for good roles. I really LOVED her as Lucy Spiller on DIRT, and while I’m sad not to see that show return for a 3rd season I was happy to find out her new ABC show Cougar Town is actually damned funny.

When I first heard the name of the show, my first thought was – Friends curse – now she’s the host of a reality show about aging sexpots competing to win the favors of some twenty-something stud. Sadly, I might have watched anyway. But NO. Cougar Town follows the misadventures of recent divorcée Jules Cobb (Courtney Cox) who lives in a small Florida town that is the natural habitat for the over-tanned, under-dressed divorcées on the prowl for younger men. Jules worst fear is becoming one of them… but that doesn’t stop her from scooping up young hottie Nick Zano (Vince on What I Like About You). Check him out shirtless in the 3rd episode! Yum!

Jules runs a successful business, has the best friends she could ask for, and a great son (Dan Byrd who you might recognize as Sylar’s microwave powered teenage sidekick). Rounding out the cast are Christa Miller (Scrubs, Drew Carey Show) as Jules’ best friend/neighbor and prime time supporting beefcake Josh Hopkins (Private Practice, Swingtown, Brothers & Sisters, Pepper Dennis, Vanished, Cold Case, Ally McBeal and New York Undercover) as her hunky 40something also recently divorced “paper-buddy” who prefers barely legal bimbos.

It seems like Courtney Cox is the only one of the friends bunch who isn’t cursed. None of them have really had much success since the show ended… Matt LeBlanc has been under a rock since his doomed spin-off (Joey), Matthew Perry did some great work in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip but show was canceled anyway due to lack of intelligence on the part of the American viewing public, Lisa Kudrow hit a little too close to home in The Comeback – a show about a one-time sitcom star (Kudrow) trying to resuscitate her career, David Schwimmer appeared as Greenzo (nuff said) and poor Jennifer Aniston picks one doomed role and relationship after another.
