Tom Welling – Super Celebrity Beefcake
Thomas John Patrick Welling was born in Putnam Valley or New York, New York (accounts differ) on April 26, 1977. He has two older sisters, Rebecca and Jamie, and a younger brother, Mark, who is also an actor. In school, Welling was a "jock" active in several team sports including baseball, basketball and soccer. He graduated from Okemos High School in 1995, and having no college aspirations due to ony being a "fair" student, then lived with his parents while working construction.
In 1998, 6 foot 3 Welling was noticed by an Abercrombie & Fitch talent scout at a party in Nantucket who offered Tom the chance to model for the then burgeoning beefcake-laden catalog. Tom spent 2 years modeling in Manhattan but by 2000, Welling had relocated to Los Angeles had moved up the food chain from A & F and was modeling for the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and other print ad campaigns.
Even though he was doing very well as a model, Tom grew disillusioned with the superficial nature of the modelling world, and soon came to the decision that he wanted to be an actor.
Tom Welling’s first major acting role was in 2001 on the CBS series Judging Amy as hot-n-hunky young karate teacher Rob Meltzer, a younger love interest of Amy Brenneman’s character. Welling also had a small role in UPN’s Special Unit 2, and appeared in the debut episode of the FOX sitcom Undeclared.
He was cast in the television series Smallville, after a nationwide search for an actor to play Clark Kent. The pilot aired in October 2001, and became the highest rated debut for The WB, with 8.4 million viewers.
Tom turned down the lead role of Clark Kent twice, but after reading the script, decided to take the job because he had the feeling that the show was going to be a great hit and he would be a fool not to take it. Many don’t know the reason he initially rejected the role was fear it was "bigger than him and he didn’t want people to think that he wasn’t a good enough actor." Like Christopher Reeve, he was not a big Superman fan prior to being cast as Clark Kent, and in fact continues to not read Superman comics.
Named one of People magazine’s "Breakthrough Stars of 2001", Welling also won the Teen Choice Award as "Choice Breakout Star (Male)" in 2002 for his role as Clark Kent. He got out from in front of the camera in 2006, with his directorial debut, the season five episode of Smallville, Fragile. He also directed season six’s, Hydro, the show’s 150th episode, Apocalypse, and "Injustice" in season 8. Besides portraying the many facets of Clark Kent, he also played Bizarro, Lionel Luthor (in Clark’s body) and a young Jor-El.
Tom Welling and long time sweetheart Jamie White were married on Friday, July 5th, 2002, at Martha’s Vineyard, in a private ceremony attended only by close friends and family. Amongst those in attendance were Tom’s co-stars on Smallville, Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum, and at Tom’s request Michael performed a special rendition of the Van Morrison hit, ‘Brown-Eyed Girl.’ Tom wore a custom-made YSL tuxedo for the occasion. Following their wedding, Tom and Jamie split their time living between Los Angeles and Vancouver, where Smallville is filmed..
With the 9th season, Welling is expanding his responsibilities to include the role of co-executive producer for Smallville. Welling attended the annual Comic-Con convention or the first time ever In July 2009. In August 2009, Welling won another Teen Choice Award as "Choice TV Actor (Action Adventure)" for Smallville. Welling has been said to have signed on for a 10th season of Smallville so he just may wear that cape yet.
Tom Welling is best known for playing young Clark Kent for the past 8 years on the CW’s (formerly the WB) Smallville.

For a working lead TV actor with 8 seasons of a hit show under his belt, he really hasn’t had THAT much big screen work….
In December 2003, Tom Welling played Charlie Baker, the oldest son in a family of 12 children in the film Cheaper by the Dozen, a remake of the 1950 original. The film also starred Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt and Hilary Duff. In 2005, Welling appeared in two films. He played Nick Castle in The Fog, a remake of John Carpenter’s 1980 film of the same name. He also reprised his role as Charlie Baker in Cheaper by the Dozen 2.

I wonder if he just doesn’t need to work or if he’s having the same problem Christopher Reeve and Dean Cain had distancing themselves from the tights and cape (and poor Tom hasn’t even put the outfit on yet!!!). He’s been the lead actor on a show that’s been on the air for 8 seasons with season 9 on the way, has directed a few episdoes and is now a co-executive producer on the show so he should have plenty of money and skills to fall back on if he can’t overcome the Clark Kent Curse.

I've liked him since he played Karate Rob from Judging Amy. And Smallville has gotten really good lately. Thanks for this post. You know how I like brunette boys.

What a dreamboat! I'll have to dig around somewhere for the nudie report someone posted once when they say TW's twig and berries when he was a model…

He is a hottie, but I gotta say that I'm over Smallville. I just can't get into and the writing is so frustrating with the character development. We'll have at least 1 episode this coming season where Clark will lose his powers and then regain them by the end of the ep. He'll get his ass kicked by everyone pretty much cause there's gonna be a piece of kryptonite in the room. He still won't even try to fly regardless of the fact that every Kryptonian he's met can, including his younger cousin. I loved it at first, but it's just hard to watch now. I will, I've invested 8 years into, I can't give up now, but I'll still be upset at times.

I hadn't seen a pic of him with short hair before so seeing #37 was a pleasant surprise. I think he looks better that way than with the moppish style.

I found very few decent resolution shots of his modeling images – any quality copies of those shots would be greatly appreciated and will be amended to this gallery along with a shout-out!

I lost interest around Season 4 but started watching again last season and enjoyed the eps I saw. LOVED Geoff Johns' Legion of Super-Heroes episode and EAGERLY anticipate his JSA episode this season.
I think moving to Metropolis and showing us something other than Clark figuring out who the meteor freak is THIS week has taken it somewhere new and I like what little I've seen. I'll be watching season 9.

I was a huge Smallville fan back in the day. It was cheesy, but it was fun cheesy, and Superman being one of my favorites it was a no brainer. Didn't help that Tom Welling was (and still is) fine. I still watch 'em, but usually on reruns and it just doesn't have the same sense of fun anymore. I haven't really figured out what's been going on since Lana died…then came back….then married Lex…then….yeah….

I can't find the document with the description, but it went along the lines of "I saw Tom Welling changing outfits at a fashion show. At one point, he took off his underwear and was completely naked. He torso was hairless and he sported a full bush with his soft cock peaking out, resting on his good sized balls". I forget where I got this info and I wish I could even copy and paste the story, but that's the best I can remember.
