Who IS the NEW Batgirl? – the clues so far…
DC is definitely going to do it’s best to draw out the mystery of their new Batgirl. From the solicits, it seems as if we still won’t know who she is by Issue #3. So I thought I’d create a spot for the inevitable speculation…
What do we know about her? From issue 3′s cover we know she has violet eyes (or contacts) and that’s about it. The costumes seen on covers for 1, 2 and 3 are different. #2 cover looks like a variation on the classic Barbara Gordon Batgirl while #1 looks like a variation on Cassandra Cain’s stitched costume and #3 looks like a stitchless version. So who is she? Cassandra? Barbara? Stephanie? Holly? Bette? (it has been mentioned that Bette Kane will have something to do with the series) I asked for other contenders I left off the short list and Charlotte “Charlie” Gage-Radcliffe a.k.a. Misfit was suggested… anyone else?
UNLESS!!! Maybe they’ll go all Mysteries of the Batwoman on us and have more than one of the young ladies above be the Batgirl – they could all be working together. The purple eyes make me think it is more than 1 person as Batgirl. They would all wear the contacts when in costume to make everyone think it is one person. That way each of them can be seen at the same time as “Batgirl” to eliminate themselves from suspicion.
Cassandra Cain has green eyes
Barbara Gordon has blue eyes
Stephanie Brown has blue eyes
Bette Kane has blue eyes
Charlotte Gage-Radcliff has blue eyes
Holly Robinson‘s eye color is the only one not listed – anyone have those Catwoman issues? I doubt Holly Robinson’s eyes are purple.
ISSUE# 1: In the wake of “Batman R.I.P.” and BATTLE FOR THE COWL, a new heroine has emerged in Gotham City, and as she begins her nocturnal crusade to take back the night, she will truly learn what it means to wear the mantle of the Bat. But who is this young woman, and why has she donned the cape and cowl?
ISSUE #2: As the new Batgirl continues her nightly mission, the mystery of her secret identity intensifies. Now she has become the target of both Gotham City’s heroes (who don’t take kindly to a new person wearing the cape and the cowl) and its villains (who want to see the entire Bat-family six feet under)!
ISSUE #3: It’s a new look and a new costume for the all-new Batgirl! As crime in Gotham City continues to rise, the newest member of the Bat-family vows to wear the mantle of the Bat and fight alongside Batman and Robin in their war on crime. There’s just one problem: She hasn’t told Batman and Robin yet!
So who do you think it is or who do you think it SHOULD BE? If it isn’t Cassandra Cain I’m sure she’s going to want to fight for the name. Should we prepare ourselves for the ensuing Batgirl vs Batgirl storyline? Seems like a fair bet.

At this point I'm convinced it's not Cassandra Cain Wayne, no matter how big a mistake DC is making in taking her out of the costume. HOWEVER I do think both Cassandra and Barbara will play a pivotal role in the new Batgirl's life. Perhaps as mentors/partners.
Stephanie is who I'm placing my money on, though it'd be a fun twist if they put Misfit into the costume. Either option I'd be satisfied with.

So I know I am probably really really late on this, but what happened to the lesbian Batgirl??

I would FREAK OUT if it turned out to be Bette Kane. I never even imagined the possibility. They're using the Nightwing and Flamebird names over in the Superman titles, so Dick Grayson and Bette now need new identities…. Oooooh the possiblities!!!

You mean the lesbian BatWOMAN. That is Kate Kane, She is currently featured as the lead story in Detective Comics

Can I post a vote for Talia Al-Ghul? Or would she be too old for the role? Since I'm not reading the title, I could easily be missing clues that would keep her out of the running. But seeing her as a hero – however temporarily – in the wake of Batman's "death", perhaps as a tribute to him? I could get behind that…

I'm thinking too old – How old is Damien? She'd be more likely to become a BatWOMAN.

Ugh, this is so irritating. Cassandra did not step down as Batgirl so why is DC producing another. If she truly is someone new i kinda hope Ms. Cain doesn't give up the mantle without a fight. the last i heard Ms. Cane was trying to lead the outsiders in the absense of their late leader Batman… so i suppose the real question would be not, "Who is the new Batgirl?", but instead, "What happened to Cassandra Cain?"

I think they're just repeating what they did with "battle for the cowl."
Nightwing didn't want to be the new Batman until he saw Jason Todd abusing the title. In this case, some amateur will try to be Batgirl. She'll get in over her head, and Cassandra will save the day.

True, i feel like i saw somewhere that it would be a mini-series.

Which would explain the various costumes that have been leaked. So the answer to "Who is Batgirl" is more like "Which Batgirl is this one?"
Works for me!

Series? Hmm, thinking of the animated series… Here's hoping she's Harlequin.

I'm still thinking that maybe Bette, Stephanie and Holly might be taking turns (well maybe if they actually knew each other).

I really have no idea who it is. But I wish it was Cassandra and I don't understand the reboot.
I will be most angry if it's Barbara as I really feel she's transcended that role and would be moving backwards to don the cape again (she's also WAY beyond being a 'girl').

I think it's Stephanie Brown(Spoiler).
Clues:
1) Purple eye could be hinted at her Spoiler costume
2) Purple action words could be hinting at her costume
3) Top of the DC board on Batgirl tile. Other titles also had main character/figure on top of character list.
4)Tim told her to rid of the Spoiler costume. Could be that she is dropping the Spoiler costume for all the bad memories it brought(War Games, her father) and is now taking the Batgirl mantle as a fresh start or/and to get back at BruceBatman and show she is a worthy member of the Batclan.
5) Her dialog in the previews, very Steph.
