Is Dum Dum Dugan asking out Stonewall?

Now I’m sure I’m just reading into this because I overheard a porn producer saying the EXACT same thing to this one really hot jockstrap-clad gogo boy the other night… I swear!

Secret Warriors #6

I know there once was a Mrs. Dugan, but a man has needs and she’s been dead awhile. He could be a late bloomer. Ol’ Dum Dum might as well have sauntered up to Stonewall with that mini leather daddy mustache of his wearing assless leather chaps and a bowler hat saying “hey there boy. You, the tall shirtless one in the tight leather pants and riveted opera gloves. I like the cut of yer jib.”

I think the writers are just fucking with us at this point. First they give him the name Stonewall and that beefcake costume, keep him practically mute and now this? Is this a tease, a completely innocent post battle male-bonding moment or the beginning of a May/December romance? Yeah It’s probably B, but It still made me laugh.

And speaking of teases – here’s a completely gratuitous sketch of Stonewall from Secret Warrior artist Stefano Caselli.

Heroes Volume 5: Redemption at SDCC 2009

The Heroes cast had a lot to say about Heroes Volume 5: Redemption at this years SDCC 2009 Heroes panel…

Looks like this season has everything… Nathan/Sylar’s identity crisis, super powered carnivals with Prison Break’s and Carnivale’s Robert Kneper as its mysterious ringleader, titillating lesbian freshmen, an empath with prophetic morphing tattoos, British actor/stuntman Ray Park (Darth Maul and X-Men’s Toad) as a knife thrower with super speed, LOTS MORE TIME TRAVEL and Swoosie Kurtz out for vengeance!

Kring then explained that when this season premieres September 21, the government is no longer after our heroes and are content to let them live ordinary lives. Of course, the question is, what does ordinary look like when you’ve got powers? Kring promised the show would move quickly this season, and added that all the clips seen in the trailer were just taken from the first three episodes.

The series creator said there would be a “new wrinkle” this season. “Alongside the show that you’ve been watching all this time, it seems there was this other group – this family of people who have powers and had figured out how to live alongside of us and hide in plain sight,” he said. And what better place to hide than in a carnival, which is one of the main settings in Volume 5.

I doubt this will be up long – but I’ll replace it with the official trailer once it hits the net.

The end of Volume Four: Fugitives left a few interesting sub-plots – the biggest of which is the fact that Nathan Petrelli was killed and then Sylar was made to think he ACTUALLY WAS Nathan and he shapechanged into him.

Heroes Volume Five “Redemption” teaser

Lets hope they can avoid some of the pitfalls of volumes 2-4 and recapture the momentum and freshness of season one while still managing to surprise and entertain without leaving gaping holes in the plot (how DID Hiro get to India and back if he couldn’t teleport and was a wanted fugitive?).

Torchwood – Children of Earth

OMG – Forget what you know about Torchwood. Children of Earth changes everything. This 5 episode mini season is AMAZING! Turns, twists and major revelations abound. It is a grand telling of a mind-gripping concept.

I don’t want to reveal anything in the main text, but PLEASE feel free to get as spoilerific as you like with your comments.

The one thing I WILL go on record saying is that I totally had the wrong idea of what this was going to do to the Torchwood universe.

There is one detail about the story that I HATE!!! Once you’ve seen it you’ll know and once someone mentions it in comments I will rant about it like you won’t believe.

I haven’t found any official talk about what is next for Captain Jack Harkness, but he’s way too good a character to leave in limbo long. I hope they have something in mind for another season or miniseries or even a movie.

Justice League of America – a Cry for a Direction

JLA should be a flagship DCU title – and lately it just isn’t.

The JLA seems poised on the brink. For a long time, this title has been plagued with limitations imposed upon it by DCU-wide crossover events as well as the solo titles of each of the bigger names in the roster. The biggest weakness of the JLA as a title is also its strength. It was conceived as a single title where the reader can get a story with all his favorite characters. The JLA was strongest as a team AND a book back when it was all about the big 7 – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. I fear this title is heading down the road to something like JLA Detroit.

The cards are stacked against the remnants of the Justice League! And those cards are the Royal Flush Gang! Can even Superman and Wonder Woman save a team whose luck has run out? Featuring the deadly return of an old foe.

The Royal Flush Gang? REALLY? Is it 1966? I know we need to revisit the greatness, but do we have to go THAT far back?

I’m hoping James Robinson will be able to do something compelling with Justice League of America – but Cry For Justice isn’t impressing me that much thus far – the tragic events that send his disparate team members crying for justice seemed forced and cheap – I’ll give it a complete read, but I expected more after his Starman series.

UPDATE: reading it now – apparently Firestorm agrees with me on the threat level of the Royal Flush Gang. And the return of Roulette and Amos Fortune? Again, big deal.

NBC to GLAAD – WE Couldn’t Be More Gay!

in their second annual Network Responsibility Index, media monitoring organization GLAAD measures the “quantity, quality and diversity of images of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people on television.” While ABC and FX were lauded for original programming that featured members LGBT community, Fox and NBC received failing grades for their lack of inclusion.

Thunderbolts #134 – Songbird HUNTED!

I’ve been a fan of Thunderbolts since #1, so I’m psyched to see Melissa Gold have a pivotal point in the Thunderbolts slice of the Dark Reign. Let’s hope she survives the experience.

It’s Thunderbolt vs. Thunderbolt in “Widowmaker” part 2 of 4! Black Widow II (Yelena Belova) leads the hunt for renegade ex-team-member Songbird, but one of her own squad of blood-thirsty killers is carrying a deadly secret!

Thunderbolts #134
Thunderbolts #134 Thunderbolts #134 Thunderbolts #134 Thunderbolts #134 Thunderbolts #134

Who holds the secret, what is it, and how will it explode the delicate balance of power within Norman Osborn’s black-ops hit squad forever? There’s no going back after the latest chapter in the book that IGN.com calls “the vilest, most wicked book on the stands!”

Depending on what happnes here, it COULD be the event that moves her up to the big leagues (Songbird was revealed as a FUTURE member of the Avengers in the 98-99 Avengers Forever maxi series – from Kurt Busiek, Roger Stern and Penciller Carlos Pacheco).
