Spider-Woman: Agent of S.W.O.R.D.

Looks like SOMEONE at Marvel has found a platform for Jessica Drew, a.k.a. Spider-Woman. A new ongoing comic (also released as an online motion comic) by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Shecky Maleev places her as an agent for the one A.C.R.O.N.Y.M in the Marvel U that she HASN’T worked for.

Spider-Woman: Agent of S.W.O.R.D. #1 Spider-Woman: Agent of S.W.O.R.D. #2

At least I don’t think she has – S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department) was only revealed during the first Astonishing X-Men arc, and the Spider-Woman running around during that time was the Skrull Queen – Veranke, so I just don’t think she had the time).

Brian Michael Bendis, writer of the Spider-Woman print comic, is writing scripts specifically for motion comics that will be offered for purchase on iTunes.

S.W.O.R.D.’s position under Norman Osborn’s H.A.M.M.E.R. has not yet been revealed in current continuity. I’ll bet they work that in here.

The entire first episode will be shown, Friday at 5:30pm at Comic-Con International during the “Marvel Digital Comics…and Beyond!”

Dark Wolverine #76 – The Prince (part 2)

Now that I know about Daken’s sexual flexibility, I will have to start picking this up. I know he is just the kind of depraved bisexual that had GLAAD complaining about Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, but he has that hot bad boy thing going on, and sometimes an anti-hero is more interesting than a goody-goody. I’m interested to seeing what his master plan is all about.

“THE PRINCE” From the pages of DARK AVENGERS, the journey of WOLVERINE’S son continues! Just as Daken’s Machiavellian plans begin to take shape, he hits a snag. Or rather, four of them. Guest-starring THE FANTASTIC FOUR! Part 2 (of 3)

9 – Post Apocalyptic Rag-Dolls vs the Machines

9 is 3D animator Shane Acker’s original 11 minute short (seen below) is the basis for his feature length Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) produced animated fantasy post-apocalyptic epic starring a band of burlap rag-dolls as the potential saviors of civilization.

You can explore the vast backstory of the alternate world that 9 takes place in and “Actively participate in the development of the prequel story leading up to the opening scene of the movie” at 9experiment.com, a vast, highly interactive and beautifully rendered interactive version of The Scientist’s ever-evolving lab, allowing you access to his inner most thoughts, ideas and inventions.

Here is Shane Acker’s original short film – 9.

When 9 (Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

A series of posters have been released revealing some details about the burlap rag dolls destined to save civilization. Click these posters to see the large versions and read about each character.

1 - The oldest and their self-proclaimed leader. He is the domineering, clever and wise. He is very arrogant and hot-tempered. Voiced by Christopher Plummer. 2 - The kind-hearted, delicate old inventor. He is fascinated by scrap and debris (garbage), and loves to explore the wasteland and look for parts for his inventions. Always walking with a cane, and can only see with a lorgnette. Voiced by Martin Landau. 3 & 4 - Twins. They are strange dolls, curious but very shy as well. They are unable to speak, using flickering lights to communicate with each other, often when they are nervous or frightened. Like cats, they instinctively run and hide at the sight of danger. When they need to explain something, to someone else, their eyes turn into film projectors. 5 - The healer, mentor, great engineer and inventor, a loyal friend. He is missing his left eye, which he presumably lost in a previous monster attack. He is the journeyman of 2. Voiced by John C. Reilly.
6 - A wild and impulsive visionary and artist. He has visions of the past and future and uses his art as a medium to explain them. His visions turn out to be precise predictions of future happenings, and often help solve mysteries that 9 needs assistance with. Voiced by Crispin Glover 7 is the group’s sole female, a brave and self-sufficient warrior, a fiercely independent adventuress, she has been out patrolling the wasteland. To survive, she has adapted, finding the bones of a deceased bird and crafting her signature skull helmet. The rebel, a female warrior, fearless and brave. She is impatient and can be stubborn and irrational but she is always calm in dangerous situations. But she has a soft and gentle female soul, and she is ready to give her life for those dear to her.Voiced by Jennifer Connelly. 8 was created to help the others physically survive the dangerous, post-apocalyptic world. He is armed with a giant kitchen cleaver and half a scissor blade. He is 1’s personal bodyguard and would die for him, though he is crude. He is a giant - strong and fierce, but isn’t very clever and is easily deceived. 8 is voiced by Fred Tatasciore. 9 - Good-hearted, thoughtful, and sincere. He will easily risk his own life to save others. Despite being a newcomer to the group, he displays leadership qualities that can help the others survive. He seeks truth in the history of the world and the dolls, and wishes to know the meaning of life. Voiced by Elijah Wood.
