Its not that easy to find an actual terrorist…

Saw Brüno at midnight on Thursday and it REALLY is worth all the hype! I laughed non-stop through the entire thing. Sascha Baron Cohen truly has a huge set of cast iron balls. I don’t know how he manages to do what he does without being shot and left for dead in a ditch.

Here he is on David Letterman talking about all kinds of stuff, including how he managed to set up an interview between Brüno and an actual terrorist. And it was as funny as you’d think.

Here is a profile about Sascha Baron Cohen and his famous alter egos – Brüno, Borat, Ali G and for a brief moment – Straight Dave.

Now there are a few angles to look at this from. Some are up in arms because the lead character of Brüno is a moronic and unwittingly self-mocking not to mention ridiculous stereotypical caricature. But I don’t think it is any more ridiculous a caricature than Borat or Ali G. As silly as Brüno is, his detractors don’t seem to get the gay characters aren’t the point of ridicule, the movie is about laughing at everyone else.

At least it was for me. To complain that Brüno’s behavior doesn’t reflect well on gay families is even more ridiculous than Brüno’s wardrobe. That is like straight people being upset because Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is an unfair depection of the traditional family.

Not every character is meant to be a role model. As far as I’m concerned if Sacha Baron Cohen has the balls to go out there dressed like that and do thing things he did, laughing is the LEAST I can do.

Some Brüno footage from Da Ali G Show and some ramifications of a Brüno sketch follow after the jump…

Amazing Spider-Man – American Son’s Conclusion

I haven’t been following this, but from the looks of Newsarama’s preview of Amazing Spider-Man #599, and the Peter Parker POV statement on page 1, I’ll have to pick up the inevitable trade paperback…

Here is a gorgeous collection of Phil Jimenez covers from the American Son arc (595, 596, 597, 598 & 599) plus next month’s John Romita Jr. (never been a big fan, but I REALLY like this cover) wraparound cover for Amazing Spider-Man #600.

Amazing Spider-Man #598 Amazing Spider-Man #599 Amazing Spider-Man #600

The greatest Marvel super hero of all celebrates his 600th issue with the biggest all-original issue of Amazing Spider-Man EVER! This one’s got it all! The return of Doctor Octopus, Daredevil, a wedding you never predicted, and the return of one of the most important people in Peter Parker’s life in a giant-sized lead story by Dan Slott and John Romita Jr. Doc’s back in town, but it’s only a prelude to darker days ahead as Spidey unknowingly prepares for a gauntlet he can’t even see coming. On top of all that, witness the return of one of Spider-man’s creators, Smilin’ Stan Lee (along with Masticatin’ Marcos Martin) as he presents a story of unbridled passion, drama and angst as Spidey reflects over his many, many years of adventures. But that ain’t all…as the rest of the Spidey Web-Heads bring you several short features showcasing some rarely explored aspects of both Spidey and Pete’s life, drawn by some of the greatest artists in comics. Plus, several other surprises and NO REPRINTS!

And the just released preview pages and solicit for the final issue of the American Son story arc – Amazing Spider-Man #599…

AMERICAN SON CONCLUDES! It’s the ultimate battle between friend and family as Spidey’s battle against the Iron Patriot and his Dark Avengers leaves one man with a choice too painful to contemplate. Plus, with wedding plans at high-fervor, Pete’s identity stands revealed to the person who stands to be most changed by the information.

Ryan Reynolds IS Green Lantern Hal Jordan!!!

Well, its all over the ‘net… In brightest day… In blackest night no Evil shall escape Ryan Reynolds might!

After an intense months-long search, Warner Bros. has chosen Ryan Reynolds to play the title character in “Green Lantern,” the studio’s live-action movie based on the DC Comics hero.

I hope they use the recent Geoff Johns additions to Hal Jordan’s origin.

Ryan Reynold IS Green Lantern!

I think he’s a good choice – I would have picked him for Wally West instead and gone with Nathan Fillion for GL (even BEFORE that great fan-made-trailer), but I can see it. I love Ryan Reynolds, I think Reynolds has been poised on the edge of being a real Hollywood leading man for a while now and I hope he really makes this movie a breakthrough hit.

Martin Campbell (who directed Goldeneye and Casino Royale) is on board to direct and while the budget – which has been rumored to have swollen to as high as $200 million for the space epic – is still not finalized, production is expected to begin in January of 2010.

Of course, this revelation immediately started speculation on how this will affect the previously announcedDeadpool movie from Fox starring Ryan Reynolds.

He recently starred in a comic-book movie, 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” in which he played Deadpool, also known as the Merc with a Mouth. The character is being developed for a spin-off in which Reynolds will star. He also played Marvel’s vampire hunter Hannibal King in “Blade: Trinity.”

If the deal is completed, it would make Reynolds technically the second actor to have played heroes for both Marvel and DC. A number of news outlets are reporting he is the first as did I, until HeroesNHunks reader kerutlj reminded us that Halle Berry played Storm AND Catwoman – but I can’t REALL fault them as far as I’m concerned that travesty with Patience Phillips instead of Selina Kyle was NOT the real Catwoman so it doesn’t count.
