Multiple Superhero MMOs launching soon

It looks like the success of City of Heroes / Villains combined with a few years of box office gold comic book mivies have led to multiple super-hero themed MMOs. City of Heroes/Villains won’t be the only game in town anymore. I suppose it was just a matter of time. We’ll get to see if there is are enough of us comic fans to sustain multiple virtual environments once DC Universe Online and Champions Online are released.

They both look pretty cool. Between DC Universe Online and Champions Online from Cryptic I may have to leave City of Villains behind. Though I AM enjoying the Architect Environment. – If you are interested… I wrote a 4 mission Arc called The Freakshow Virus that you can play. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Maybe if they prove successful, someone will resurrect the Marvel Universe Online project… I know it became Champions Online, but I’d rather see it a game take place in the Marvel U than one based on an old D&D style superhero RPG I never played.

New Avengers #52 – The Hood vs Dr. Strange

So now we know that Dormammu is behind The Hood, making him more powerful than we previously thought and a potential contender for Sorcerer Supreme. Can Dr. Strange stand against him and how much help will an untested newbie like Wiccan be?

Who is the new Sorcerer Supreme? The entire Marvel Universe hangs in the balance as the Avengers race to help the fallen Doctor Strange battle the forces of the Dark Dimension as they make their earthly power play.

I think Wiccan will be an important part of this developing story, but I don’t think he will end up with Strange’s mantle just yet.

What do you think of Chris Bachalo’s art? I loved his original run on Shade the Changing Man and his work on Generation X, but his more recent X-Men art didn’t do much for me (I found it hard to follow). I’m hoping he is more successful with this arc because I DO love the style of his images.

I never heard of Nick Symmonds before, but he’s adorable (for a straight boy – just guessing from his Dumb and Dumber poster) – even with clothes on.

Mighty Avengers #24 – Chasing Ghosts

The earth-shattering revelation that the mysteriously returned Scarlet Witch who bought together the line-up for the (new) Mighty Avengers is none other than Lady Loki in disguise has definitely piqued my interest. But it does bring up some questions… Where is the REAL Scarlet Witch? We saw that she was back and living “a seemingly normal and peaceful life in a house in the woods at the base of a mountain” (shown when Wiccan and Speed went looking AND when Clint Barton found her upon his return – but left her to her new life). So we know she is out there.

The Onion made a movie – and it was good!

It may have been a 4/20 special – I don’t think I usually get the G4 channel (to my chagrin) but as I was channel surfing late last night I happened upon The Onion Movie. For those unfamiliar, The Onion is a fake news organization  featuring satirical articles reporting on international, national, and local news, and this movie is their first foray into a genre virtually ignored for decades – I don’t count Date Movie, Scary Movie etc and part of the genre – instead of being a collection of unrelated skits – they attempt to consolidate a bunch of funny moments to one story and it is forced at best – downright unfunny at worst. Hail to the Onion, the new king of parody!

Not since Amazon Women on the Moon (my favorite silly movie of all time) and The Kentucky Fried Movie (a close second) have comedic filmmakers created a collection of unrelated short sketches loosely tied together by some flimsy premise that managed to simultaneously make me laugh my ass off AND make sardonic yet brutally truthful judgments about society as we know it. I don’t care how you do it… but watch and laugh.

I only wish there had been more gay content. There was ONE gay cruise sketch – but was followed by an offended redneck saying that is so wrong – (but that also became a running gag as he reacted much the same to a number of segments).
there was alot more to it, but here are some clips I found…
