Jensen Ackles – Everyone’s Recurring Geek Crush
Texas born Supernatural star Jensen Ackles is no stranger to Sci-Fi. Ackles first gained notoriety as a Days of Our Lives (some of their storylines veer into unknown territory – remember Marlena’s possession?) soap opera hunk and was one of the few to successfully make the leap into primetime in not one, not two, but 3 popular TV action dramas. Before his fan favorite role Dean Winchester opposite Jared Padelecki as brother Sam, he enjoyed recurring roles on Smallville and Dark Angel.
Since they were first introduced, Sam and Dean Winchester have sparked an almost unprecedented level of fascination from slash fiction as well as photomanipulators – more on that shortly – WINK WINK!!!.
After modeling on and off since the age of 4, Ackles began to concentrate on an acting career in 1996. He appeared in several guest roles on Mr. Rhodes, Sweet Valley High, and Cybill before joining the cast of the NBC soap opera Days of our Lives as Eric Brady in 1997. He won a 1998 Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Male Newcomer and went on to be nominated three times (in 1998, 1999, and 2000) for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series for his work on Days of our Lives.
After Days, Jensen auditioned for the role of the Clark Kent on Smallville. After failing to land the part, he appeared on Fox’s Dark Angel in 2001 as the serial killer Ben/X5-493 and his sane clone Alec/X5-494. He remained a series regular until the series was canceled in 2002.
Next he joined the cast of Smallville as Lana Lang’s new boyfriend, traitorous Assistant Football Coach Jason Teague until he was killed in the series 4 finale to free him up for his role on Supernatural.
