Despite my lack of interest in R.I.P., I may have to pick up the 2 part follow-up that started today…
This special two-part tale narrated by Sir Alfred Pennnyworth reflects upon the life and times of Gotham City’s most celebrated citizen – and hints at what’s next for The Dark Knight. Grant Morrison delivers a story of past memories, present heartache and future promises. A spectacular, unforgettable farewell to The Dark Knight, mixing memory, dream and speculation as Alfred closes the casebook on the greatest crimefighter of all time. With guest appearances by Batman friends and foes from every era of Batman’s history, this epic adventure cannot be missed.

DC Comics has a new Vigilante, or does it? The guise of Vigilante has been assumed by at least 6 different people since Greg Saunders first appeared in November 1941 in the pages of Action Comics #42. New Teen Titans Annual #2 basically reinvented Vigilante as the DCU’s Punisher with the evolution of frustrated District Attorney Adrian Chase. Subsequent incarnations followed the 80’s reinvention of the character as Chase retired to the Judge’s bench for awhile and was succeeded at first by his cronies Alan Welles and Dave Winston, then rogue cop Patricia Trayce, and finally Multiple personality sufferer Justin Powell.
At this point it is unknown whether this NEW Vigilante has ties to previous versions, and if so to which one.
In New York City, crime is on the rise, and terror fills the streets. Gang warfare is escalating, and metahumans are being drafted into battle. Through the corruption and lawlessness, one man emerges to right the wrongs as only he can. So when a Super Hero conspiracy plot is brought to light, the Vigilante returns to find the traitor and mete out his own brand of justice – with extreme prejudice!
Writer Marv Wolfman (NEW TEEN TITANS, CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS), who created the Adrian Chase incarnation of vigilante continues the street-level adventures of the mysterious new crime fighter he introduced in the pages of NIGHTWING.

I really do love just about everything that I hear her say. Rachel Maddow is one smart funny politically savvy lady and I hope she enjoys the success she richly deserves. She really adds something to the collective voice of the “liberal media.” Not since Jon Stewart and the Daily Show have I seen a personality such an original and genial perspective speaking on my wavelength.
Here she is with her latest thoughts on Obama’s choice for the Inauguration invocation, Pastor Rick Warren. Warren, in addition to being a bible banging homophobe who has in the past compared homosexuality to incest and pedophilia (though he tries denying it in the video below, Rachel includes video of him saying it on camera). According to Rachel’s guest commenter, The Nation’s Katha Pollitt, Rick Warren not only compares women who have had an abortion to Nazi’s and pro-choice believers to holocaust deniers, but also believes spousal abuse is not grounds for divorce (he believes only abandonment and infidelity are valid reasons. This guy is just plain scary. I do not understand why Obama chose him.

If you aren’t familiar with the work of artist/writer Howard Chaykin, you have a lot of brilliant back issues and trade paperbacks to read and entertainment to watch. Chaykin’s extensive body of work as both artist and writer stretches over the past 40 years of comics, tv and film. Plus this Christmas eve day you can pick up his take on Marvel’s star spangled soldier – Captain America – and I mean Steve Rogers not this new silver clad gun wielder.
In this series exploring the storied history of America’s greatest champion, Howard Chaykin pulls back the Iron Curtain on one of Captain America’s wiliest nemeses — Soviet Russia and her never-ending parade of spies, saboteurs, fifth columnists…so many we had to make this story double-sized! Before his role in “The Death of Captain America,” no one was more patriotic than the Cap of the Fifties, even if he does have Steve Rogers’ shoes to fill. Unfortunately, Nick Fury, a newly minted operative of the CIA, isn’t about to let him off the hook that easily. But Cap and Fury better start working together, or they’ll find themselves buried in Reds! PLUS: a bonus reprinting of a classic Cap tale from the fabulous fifties!
Those in the know might recognize his name or signature style from American Flagg!, The Shadow, Time2, Blackhawk, Black Kiss, Twilight, Firearm, Power and Glory, Cyberella, The Flash television series (CBS), American Century, Mighty Love, Challengers of the Unknown, Bite Club, Barnum!: In Secret Service to the USA, City of Tomorrow, 24 College Ave, Hawkgirl and Punisher War Journal (2nd series).
