The Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale is back as an iconic character in a summer blockbuster for 2009 – but this time he’s John Conner in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, due May 22, 2009. There is a lot to look forward to at the cinema next year. Lets hope we can all still afford movie tickets!
In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.
Jackman is replacing comedian, television host amd political satirist Jon Stewart who hosted in the 78th and 80th Oscars in 2006 and 2008 respectively.
“Hugh Jackman is a consummate entertainer and an internationally renowned movie star,” said Mark and Condon in a joint statement. “He also has style, elegance and a sense of occasion. Hugh is the ideal choice to host a celebration of the year¹s movies and to have fun doing it.”
CBR was quick to point out that Jackman was in The Prestige with Batman actor Christian Bale and the two may see a lot of each other on Oscar night as The Dark Knight is expected by many to win a number of Academy Awards.
