If you managed to get through dinner without encouraging the crazy aunt until she confesses to kissing the patriarch, or the out to everyone but mom-n-dad relation throwing a turkey in the deserving lap of a constantly viscous judgmentally superior sibling than you probably did OK.
I’m a little melancholy this Thanksgiving. My mom had a hip replaced a few weeks ago and aside from the time in hospital, this is the first time I’ve ever seen her as anything less than a force of nature. But today she was in pajamas with a cane at Thanksgiving as we ate pizza. Mom has always hated cooking the whole turkey-n-stuffing combo (she’s more of a holiday ham gal) so deep down she probably see’s this as a “get out of Thanksgiving free” card but was still distressing to see her so frail and not up to the task of a holiday dinner. Dad made it sound like she WANTED pizza, but I think he was just too lazy to find us a good alternative – I’ll take over if she’s still not reay by Christmas. According to Dad, she’s really making good progress tho. . So, I’m just trying to be supportive and help her with anything Dad might not foresee – he is typical of the unconscious straight guy on many levels – lets just say, although he DOES care for her deeply – (she’s his world) but he’s not always hella empathic.
For some reason the extremely dysfunctional ensemble cast of Home For the Holidays chears me up a bit – call it schadenfreude…
P.S. Although the drama is entertaining, I hope your own personal Thanksgivings went off without an emotional hitch. Happy Thanksgiving form Fanboi at HeroesNHunks!
I came out to my own parents quite late, as I was chicken, the only child, adopted AND they’re from a different generation (mid-70s now). But they’ve been surprisingly cool and supportive to a point. I’ve mentioned my boyfriend (whom you may remember as popapathy) numerous times over the past year, they always ask after him and say nice things about being happy for me etc, yet they have yet to ask to meet him. I’ve decided once Mom is well enough to get herself downtown for lunch again, she’s well enough to meet him. Now I just have to get her and him on board.
I spotted one of Joe Phillips wonderful JoeBoys Thanksgiving images depicting a joyful family of friends on a number of gay blogs this morning, which made me think as a SERIOUSLY longtime fan, I’ve been HORRIBLY remiss in showcasing his work. I immediately sought to rectify that oversight and the resulting JoeBoy bonanza is to be enjoyed below! Joe Phillips is a prolific artist so there will me MANY more gallery posts of his work.
HeroesNHunks loves JoeBoys!!! He has a non censored platform here anytime he likes – I do have an open door submission policy for artists…. Full credit and linkage for anyone who has some homo heroes for us. Be warned, I’m a tough critic. I grew up on George Perez and John Byrne and have a shortlist of favorites from the generation that follows (Phil Jimenez, Bryan Hitch, Gary Frank, Chris Bacholo and Paul Pelletier). So any artist needs to show me a beautiful composition AND realistic yet stylistic depictions of the human form to impress me. Joe Phillips’s images never fail to deliver eye catching arrangements, sexy situations, heart tugging warmth and just the right touch of occasional cuteness. Plus sometimes he draws nudes.
I hope we can peek into his sketchbook and find a few more SUPER Joe Boys. I’ve found a few and am holding them for a special post of his beefcake heroes – which I hope to include with some images from the superhot Stonewall and Riot – a 3D gay superhero/sidekick porn epic that MUST be seen to be believed. Seeing if he can help with that…
If you’d like to know more about the San Diego artist, there is a great interview with Joe Phillips from campKC.com (Kansas City’s voice for the LGBT and Allied Communities). You can also find Joe Phillips online portfolio with images and a way to order books, prints/posters, t-shirts, cups, pillows, tile coasters or even commission original artwork.

The long-awaited sequel to the award-winning publishing sensation that made Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross into stars begins here! News photographer Phil Sheldon’s back, with the man-on-the-street’s perspective on the big events of the Marvel Universe, from the Avengers, the all-new X-Men and the Secret Wars to Dracula and the Werewolf By Night. But this time, Phil’s world is going to be rocked not just by superheroes and super-villains — but by something far more personal, as well.
Featuring the Marvel debut of artist Jay Anacleto, whose gorgeous, photorealistic pencil renderings give a new look at the Marvel Universe, and what it would be like to actually be there.
We’ve seen a plethora of comic book superhero movies lately. This one is a bit different. Special is the story of Les Franken (MICHAEL RAPAPORT), a somewhat meek, kind-hearted, completely average and virtually invisible comic book fan. Les’s life changes the day he begins an drug study for the anti-depressant, Specioprin Hydrochloride. The experimental drug has an unusual side-effect… the delusion of the ability to levitate, to read peoples’ minds, and even walk through walls.
As any real self-respecting comic fan would, when faced with his new powers, Les makes a suit and set out to protect the world from the forces of evil.
But he soon finds himself opposed by the pharmaceutical companies mysterious “suits” who are probably just trying to do damage control on the nutball who went crazy on their new drug.
Not sure where this roller coaster ride can lead. I’d think nowhere good fror poor Les who runs into walls and gets hit by cars, but it will at least be well-acted and entertaining.
I was first smitten with Zachary Quinto as Sasan, Tori Spelling’s gay best friend in So NoTORious, long before he became Heroes season 1 big bad. His tenure as Sylar cemented my interest and to have him as the Star Trek’s new Spock is really the last straw. If he gets one more geek role, I’ll be honor bound to stalk him.
His casting as a young Spock in the J. J. Abrams-directed reboot of the Star Trek film franchise was officially announced at the 2007 Comic-Con. Speaking alongside Leonard Nimoy at a press conference to promote the new Star Trek film, Quinto revealed that Nimoy had been given casting approval over who would play the role of the young Spock.
Today, with his Star Trek and Heroes body of work, Quinto hopes to capitalize on his cachet by adding to his artistic endeavors as a producer. Teaming up with Corey Moosa and Neal Dodson, both 2000 graduates of Carnegie Mellon’s School of Drama, he recently formed Before the Door Pictures, a production company named after the school’s acting exercise.

It seems like just last week I was blogging about a new western-themed gay porn epic. Oh yeah, it was. Although Jet Set Men’s new movie Muscle Mountain doesn’t have the same sweeping epic feel, it does have the same spewing fluids on hard manflesh.
