I stand by my statement. I said Northstar "first appeared in the pages of the X-Men and EVENTUALLY found his way onto their roster" - (about 20 years later). He was an instructor and member of the X-Men - he even "died" defending the X-mansion and the students from a brainwashed Wolverine. Northstar has been seen fighting alongside the X-Men in San Francisco during Marvel's current "Secret Invasion". Its all covered in the wiki links I included in the post.

Both Northstar AND Alpha Flight first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #120 (April 1979) and were created by the X-Men's artist at the time John Byrne - who went on to create the later Alpha Flight series.

Northstar first appeared as a member of the Canadian superhero group, Alpha Flight. Not sure about his relations with the X Men. I think he worked briefly with Professor Xavier at the school for mutant kids.
