Rainbow was a Sesame Street style British children’s tv series which aired twice weekly from 1972 to 1992

In 1979, the cast and crew of Rainbow made a special exclusive sketch for the internal Thames TV staff Christmas tape (not to be broadcast) featuring plenty of deliberate adult humor. The episode was never shown at the time, but became famous after being aired on Victor Lewis-Smith’s Channel 4 programme TV Offal (1997) and was jokingly referred to as “the pilot episode”
