I haven’t been this excited about a cartoon since I first saw Justice League (Later Justice League Unlimited). Marvel’s new Wolverine and the X-Men (I understand the reason his name is out front – but still, isn’t that like having a “Hulk and the Avengers” cartoon?) cartoon looks AMAZING!!!! So many familiar faces!
Apparently it has been airing in Canada and overseas for a few months… Any non spoiler comments/reviews?
The LOGO network’s website has added new Rick and Steve the happiest gay couple in all the world. If you missed season 1 – pick it up. Its a twisted comedy smash up of Queer as Folk and an irreverant sitcom as acted by Duplo block toys. Worth watching. I bought Season One and would definitely recommend it.
Check out Green Goblin jr (and Milk love interest) James Franco and his cute little (I’m guessing definitely younger) brother Dave as they impart words of wisdom about Sense Memory, Green Screen Acting and Scene Work.
Prince has always mixed spiritual overtones in his music, yet it took a Kevin Smith special to shed some light on this once popular icon’s evolution into a practicing Jehovah’s Witness. Evidently Prince believes it his duty to enforce his views of salvation on others when not spontaneously demanding the purchase of a camel at three in the morning.
There does seem to be more to this “black hatred” toward the gay community than media spin. Self-professed comedian DL Hugley admitted his conflict on the measure during his attempted CNN facsimile of Bill Maher’s popular HBO program. Even stars like Forest Whitaker and Don Cheadle belong to the Film Independent organization that donated funds in support of Prop 8. Why did blacks and Hispanics vote in strong numbers for a proposition to repress another minority? Jesus.
We all love Jesus. He usually has blond hair, blue eyes and tight abs when Mel Gibson isn’t busy obscuring all of that by bloodying him up and killing him in his movies. I don’t know why Mel hates Jesus so much. Spirituality can be an important force in centering an individual. It sure has helped minorities through some inconceivable times. Personal enlightenment has now been replaced with irrational superstition that is preventing gay men and women of some basic civil rights. God and religion have become a child’s binky for grownups.
Religion and gay rights can easily coexist as long as these “non-profit” organizations aren’t funding political initiatives (I’m talking to you, Mormons). Nobody intends to force churches in opposition to gay people to perform their marriage ceremonies. Nobody is trying to teach gay sex in schools either. The only indoctrination comes from the Christian community. Maybe they are mistaking their own tactics for ours. I could care less how a church or individual feels about my life. I just want the opportunity to live it the way I see fit – a way that doesn’t hurt anyone and has the same legal protections as others gay, straight, black, Hispanic, married or single. This battle is about more than marriage, it is about equal opportunity.
Let’s be honest here; this isn’t really about God. He’s merely the justification for the prejudice so bigots can sleep at night. This is about what everything else is about in this country – the kids. That’s why the advertising in Prop 8 focused on children. The leading website on the subject (preservemarriage.org – I refuse to link to them) has admitted to the fact that they don’t want to legitimize gay families. They really aren’t concerned about the “definition of marriage” as they claim. These zealots are worried about trying to explain their disapproval of thriving gay people and families in their community to their children without sounding intolerant. Ultimately – it’s about hate.
I love classic Prince music. He wrote “When U Were Mine” for my favorite singer Cyndi Lauper (who would likely kick his ass now) and other such Christian favorites such as “Cream”, “Get Off”, and “Pussy Control”. Should we forgive Prince? Maybe it’s just the syphilis talking. Let’s not forget the popular “Little Red Corvette” where he boasts his reuse of condoms. That would certainly do it. I’m not saying he actually has an STD but it would make sense for this crazy talk. I don’t even know where you’d buy a prophylactic for a dromedary.

I never really planned to do this blog all by myself. When I first started it, I kinda hoped for more comments and perhaps even some like minded peeps across the globe who might want author privileges. In the past Buttersboi has had some insightful and occasional scathing comments and also sent me some great rants that I turned into posts, but when he sent me his tirade on the munchkin formerly known as Prince, I felt he’d earned his own byline… Welcome to HeroesNHunks, Buttersboi, i hope you survive the experience.
And be sure to e-mail me if YOU (yes you!) might like to contribute sometime?!?!?! Got something to say about Comic Books? Sci Fi? Gay Rights? Human Sexuality? Entertainment? Politics? Action Figures? XXX Feature Films? or Pornstars? Than by all means – drop me a line at fanboi@heroesnhunks.com
Check out JustUsBoy’s indepth interview with this legend-in the making. Braxton talks about everything from growing up a precocious trouble magnet and being and old soul to being a dirty boy on camera and who he’d like to work with. I’d like to see him work for Chi Chi too! He definitely has the heat and enthusiasm her boys exude.
Apparently he’s a photographer too… Maybe if we ask nice he’ll let us showcase some of his images.
Braxton Bond has also done an interview for Unzipped magazine (Feb 2008 I think), and if SOMEONE can send me a scan of the pages (I’ve googled my heart out to no avail) I’ll add those too. Anyone? Bueller? Pretty Please?

Teen Titans #65: I hadn’t been liking either Titans title but lately that is changing. Sean McKeever’s storylines are starting to come together and I’m loving the work of the current artistic team (Eddy Barrows and Ruy Jose). Plus Wonder Girl breaks free of Ares’ strings and takes her power back (long time coming).
Kingdom Come Special: The Kingdom One Shot: The ranks of the JSA start to split over Gog. Why is he here? What does he want? What does any “God” supposedly want? Our faith? Our worship? Our fatted calves? Our first-born-son? Our very lives? I’m guessing it’s going to be more than singing some hymns every Sunday while standing and kneeling a lot.
X-Force #9: The X-Force team “convinces” the Vanisher to bring them into the a lab where Mr. Sinisters cloned backup Mauruders run amok after his death. Even Elixer has a silver and black X-outfit – bringing him right into the fray. I think his charachter will be the most changed by his tenure in this title. Plus Ghost Rider give Warpath demon bear killing lessons.
Secret Invasion: X-Men #4 of 4: The X-Men save San Francisco from a Skrull invasion – like there was ever a doubt. Scott is focused, determined and willing to make tough decisions. Definitely not the often doubting Slim Summers of my youth. But I like it. I think they want him to be a little less boy scout – so Wolvie isn’t the only bad boy alpha male.
Superman #682:Supergirl’s mom, Alura is a bitch without any shred of human empathy. She’s going to be a real problem for Kal and the Kandorian. So are the policemen that the Kryponians killed while rounding up Superman’s “Rogues Gallery” for exile to the Phantom Zone. Now what will this mean for Mon-el not to mention General Zod and the rest of the Phantom Zone inhabitants.
Secret Invasion: Inhumans #4 of 4:Do NOT get between Medusa and her man. Didn’t realize she had piercing damage with that mad mane of hers. I thought she was strictly limited to grapple checks. Also LOVE Black Bolt’s judicious and controlled use of his power. All in all did a nice job of setting up War of Kings.
Birds of Prey #124: The Birds take on the Silicon Syndicate as Oracle faces down Joker again. He recognized her and came back to finish what he started in the Killing Joke. At first I enjoyed the battle – Babs got in a few great shots and shatterd his winning smile, but then he mopped up the floor with her and threw her down an elevator shaft – He would have finished her if the cavalry hadn’t arrived (Misfit of all people).
Wolverine – Origins #30: Almost makes me care about Daken. Almost. One cool thing is that it seems like Wolverine’s memories have been restored too. Big reveal (to me at least) from the arc was that it was Charles Xavier who was responsible for the missing memories that have followed him thoughought his time on the X-Men.
Madame Xanadu #6: Nimue’s journey continues as she ages and is visited by Death of the Endless. I’m really enjoying this intriguing tale of one of DC’s most mysterious women, her journey through the ages and tenuous connection to the Phantom Stranger.
The Incredible Hercules #123: I’m glad Marvel is firmly bringing the gods of Greek Mythology back to the big time. Its been all Norse all the time around there for far too long. I should have known it was Hera behind it. Who else?
Legion of Super heroes #48: I don’t know how they can wrap this up in 2 more issues. THIS incarnation of the title is canceled as of #50. I’m sure a new one is planned to ride the coattails of Legion of 3 Worlds and the Legion’s 50th Anniversary.
Thor – Man of War One Shot: Thor throws a tantrum and daddy odin shows him whose boss. Ever wonder how Thor was banished to Earth? Ummm who is Arkin Torson? I thought Thor was banished into Dr. Donald Blake? Never followed Thor that closely in the old days.
Ultimate X-Men #98: Dropped this after Northstar’s crippling overdose. Should have stayed dropped – and now it will. I picked this up for Ultimatum tie-in, but don’t really care about the Ultimate universe anymore.

DC Universe Executive Editor Dan Didio revealed on Wednesday that Geoff Johns and Gary Frank will leave Action Comics to bring us a six-issue miniseries re-telling how Clark Kent became Superman. Since the Infinite Crisis, hints have been dropped about subtle alterations to the history of the Man of Steel.
After reading Geoff Johns retooled secret origin of Hal Jordan in the issues leading into the Blackest Night event he has planned, I eagerly await what he has planned for Kal-el and his supporting casts in Smallville and Metropolis. Will we see Chloe? I kinda hope not. In Green Lantern, Johns took a well known origin and history and managed to add many elements, make it fresh and modern yet didn’t destroy anything that came before. It takes an amazing talent to make something old new again without pissing off the diehard oldschool fanbase – but he did it with style. I can’t wait to see what this team will do to the big blue boy scout.
Superman: Secret Origin will feature new looks at the origin of not only Superman, but some of his greatest allies, enemies and supporting cast and it will tie into everything Gary and I have done so far on Action Comics as well as setting the stage for the future.
It goes from Clark’s teenage years, through his first adventure with the Legion of Super-Heroes and into his arrival and introduction to Metropolis as Superman. We’ve included the first four covers with the interview and you can see a pretty big part of Clark Kent’s history is being reintroduced as well – namely, Superboy. But with a bit of a twist.
This isn’t Smallville or Superman: The Movie or Superman: The Silver Age, this is Superman: Secret Origin by me and Gary. It’s a different look at the beginnings of the characters and mythos of Superman that will set the stage for the monthly Superman comics. And this does not signify the end of my involvement with the Superman Family.
With the single exception of his death at Doomsday’s hands, followed by the emergence of Kon-el, the Eradicator, Steel and the Cyborg Superman, I hadn’t really cared about Superman or his stories since the John Bryne revamp in the 80’s.
Geoff Johns’ words combined with Gary Frank’s images have gotten me so interested in Superman again that it’s one of my most eagerly anticipated purchases. I can’t wait to read this and see what they have in mind to follow it!

“War of Kings lead-in! The X-Men have been defeated. Havok, Polaris and the Starjammers are being held and tortured in the most secure prison in the universe. Marvel Girl, Korvus and Lilandra are being hunted by the Imperial Guard. Vulcan is Emperor of the Shi’Ar Empire and his expansion has begun. No King will stand when Vulcan and his armies are done. This is the story of a fight against insurmountable odds, a mini-series that will change the shape of the Universe and pave the way for the War of Kings.”
If you managed to get through dinner without encouraging the crazy aunt until she confesses to kissing the patriarch, or the out to everyone but mom-n-dad relation throwing a turkey in the deserving lap of a constantly viscous judgmentally superior sibling than you probably did OK.
I’m a little melancholy this Thanksgiving. My mom had a hip replaced a few weeks ago and aside from the time in hospital, this is the first time I’ve ever seen her as anything less than a force of nature. But today she was in pajamas with a cane at Thanksgiving as we ate pizza. Mom has always hated cooking the whole turkey-n-stuffing combo (she’s more of a holiday ham gal) so deep down she probably see’s this as a “get out of Thanksgiving free” card but was still distressing to see her so frail and not up to the task of a holiday dinner. Dad made it sound like she WANTED pizza, but I think he was just too lazy to find us a good alternative – I’ll take over if she’s still not reay by Christmas. According to Dad, she’s really making good progress tho. . So, I’m just trying to be supportive and help her with anything Dad might not foresee – he is typical of the unconscious straight guy on many levels – lets just say, although he DOES care for her deeply – (she’s his world) but he’s not always hella empathic.
For some reason the extremely dysfunctional ensemble cast of Home For the Holidays chears me up a bit – call it schadenfreude…
P.S. Although the drama is entertaining, I hope your own personal Thanksgivings went off without an emotional hitch. Happy Thanksgiving form Fanboi at HeroesNHunks!
I came out to my own parents quite late, as I was chicken, the only child, adopted AND they’re from a different generation (mid-70s now). But they’ve been surprisingly cool and supportive to a point. I’ve mentioned my boyfriend (whom you may remember as popapathy) numerous times over the past year, they always ask after him and say nice things about being happy for me etc, yet they have yet to ask to meet him. I’ve decided once Mom is well enough to get herself downtown for lunch again, she’s well enough to meet him. Now I just have to get her and him on board.
I spotted one of Joe Phillips wonderful JoeBoys Thanksgiving images depicting a joyful family of friends on a number of gay blogs this morning, which made me think as a SERIOUSLY longtime fan, I’ve been HORRIBLY remiss in showcasing his work. I immediately sought to rectify that oversight and the resulting JoeBoy bonanza is to be enjoyed below! Joe Phillips is a prolific artist so there will me MANY more gallery posts of his work.
HeroesNHunks loves JoeBoys!!! He has a non censored platform here anytime he likes – I do have an open door submission policy for artists…. Full credit and linkage for anyone who has some homo heroes for us. Be warned, I’m a tough critic. I grew up on George Perez and John Byrne and have a shortlist of favorites from the generation that follows (Phil Jimenez, Bryan Hitch, Gary Frank, Chris Bacholo and Paul Pelletier). So any artist needs to show me a beautiful composition AND realistic yet stylistic depictions of the human form to impress me. Joe Phillips’s images never fail to deliver eye catching arrangements, sexy situations, heart tugging warmth and just the right touch of occasional cuteness. Plus sometimes he draws nudes.
I hope we can peek into his sketchbook and find a few more SUPER Joe Boys. I’ve found a few and am holding them for a special post of his beefcake heroes – which I hope to include with some images from the superhot Stonewall and Riot – a 3D gay superhero/sidekick porn epic that MUST be seen to be believed. Seeing if he can help with that…
If you’d like to know more about the San Diego artist, there is a great interview with Joe Phillips from campKC.com (Kansas City’s voice for the LGBT and Allied Communities). You can also find Joe Phillips online portfolio with images and a way to order books, prints/posters, t-shirts, cups, pillows, tile coasters or even commission original artwork.

The long-awaited sequel to the award-winning publishing sensation that made Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross into stars begins here! News photographer Phil Sheldon’s back, with the man-on-the-street’s perspective on the big events of the Marvel Universe, from the Avengers, the all-new X-Men and the Secret Wars to Dracula and the Werewolf By Night. But this time, Phil’s world is going to be rocked not just by superheroes and super-villains — but by something far more personal, as well.
Featuring the Marvel debut of artist Jay Anacleto, whose gorgeous, photorealistic pencil renderings give a new look at the Marvel Universe, and what it would be like to actually be there.
We’ve seen a plethora of comic book superhero movies lately. This one is a bit different. Special is the story of Les Franken (MICHAEL RAPAPORT), a somewhat meek, kind-hearted, completely average and virtually invisible comic book fan. Les’s life changes the day he begins an drug study for the anti-depressant, Specioprin Hydrochloride. The experimental drug has an unusual side-effect… the delusion of the ability to levitate, to read peoples’ minds, and even walk through walls.
As any real self-respecting comic fan would, when faced with his new powers, Les makes a suit and set out to protect the world from the forces of evil.
But he soon finds himself opposed by the pharmaceutical companies mysterious “suits” who are probably just trying to do damage control on the nutball who went crazy on their new drug.
Not sure where this roller coaster ride can lead. I’d think nowhere good fror poor Les who runs into walls and gets hit by cars, but it will at least be well-acted and entertaining.
I was first smitten with Zachary Quinto as Sasan, Tori Spelling’s gay best friend in So NoTORious, long before he became Heroes season 1 big bad. His tenure as Sylar cemented my interest and to have him as the Star Trek’s new Spock is really the last straw. If he gets one more geek role, I’ll be honor bound to stalk him.
His casting as a young Spock in the J. J. Abrams-directed reboot of the Star Trek film franchise was officially announced at the 2007 Comic-Con. Speaking alongside Leonard Nimoy at a press conference to promote the new Star Trek film, Quinto revealed that Nimoy had been given casting approval over who would play the role of the young Spock.
Today, with his Star Trek and Heroes body of work, Quinto hopes to capitalize on his cachet by adding to his artistic endeavors as a producer. Teaming up with Corey Moosa and Neal Dodson, both 2000 graduates of Carnegie Mellon’s School of Drama, he recently formed Before the Door Pictures, a production company named after the school’s acting exercise.

It seems like just last week I was blogging about a new western-themed gay porn epic. Oh yeah, it was. Although Jet Set Men’s new movie Muscle Mountain doesn’t have the same sweeping epic feel, it does have the same spewing fluids on hard manflesh.

BEWARE SPOILERS AHEAD!
I really didn’t try that hard to read this. I came in right before the point that Bat-Mite was introduced in the story and was waaay to confused to bother buying more. I found Batman’s behavior prior to his meltdown to be completely implausible and out-of-character, and turns out I was right. he was “acting” for Jezebel’s benefit. Also seems like wasn’t the only one to find it convoluted and confusing enough to be put off.
Now that I read the synopsis, it sounds like it was an interesting read and an excellent example of how Batman can outsmart anyone, even when he’s out of his mind. But I found it hard to swallow as a monthly story. Buy the issues if you like, wait months for the trade paperback, check out the detailed wiki synopsis or just read fanboi’s CliffsNotes version below.
A bunch bad guys meet some guy named Simon Hurt of the Black Glove to screw with Batman and invite Joker to join in. Commissioner Gordon tries to stop a news story calling Batman’s mom a drug addicted slut who was photographed at orgies and got knocked up by the butler causing Thomas Wayne to plot her murder and fake his death. After a henchmen cuts Batman with a knife coated with a mind-wiping drug, he uses the Batcomputer, brings up the phrase “Zur-En-Arrh” and triggers a mental collapse just as the bad guys break in. Dr. hurt gets Batman all jacked up on enough drugs to make a brontosaurus trip heavily.
Batman makes a pink costume and starts to see the animated Bat-Mite as his side kick. The Batman in control is actually a back-up-personality that Bruce Wayne instilled long ago as a defense against mind-wiping psychological attacks. Open hearing that there is still a Batman out there, Dr. Hurt takes the red-headed Jezebel and seeks the Joker. Batman and Joker fights and Jezebel Jet shows her true colors as Joker gloats. Batman is placed in a deathtrap coffin and escapes. The Batman Family rallies and starts taking out the various superhenchmen.
Batman reveals he was onto Jezabel long ago and was playing along and “pretending” to love her. Joker runs but the Bat Bastard runs him off a bridge. Dr. Hurt claims to be Thomas Wayne, but Batman calls bullshit. Hurt says be my bitch or the story about Martha Wayne the druggie slut is front page news. Batman refuses, jumps onto the helicopter bringing it down in flames. Nightwing stands with Batman’s cowl(anyone have a scan of that page – heard it was a great pin-up)… Jezebel Jet is released but her plane is brought down by Talia’s army of Ninja Man-Bats.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I wish everyone lots of turkey with all the trimmings and a pleasant day with family and/or friends. Many LGBT people end up with a family of friends and those kind of families are even more special for their common bonds. Celebrate your connections every day.
Holidays are about celebrating your “family” – which may or may not include your relations. “Family” loves and supports you through thick or thin and will always be there for you. A relation who can’t do that isn’t someone on whom you should waste turkey, much less your time, tears or anger.

DC Direct has released images for the first 2 series’ of History of the DC Universe – based on the art of legendary comic book artist George Perez. Both series are due in summer 2009.
Series Two consisting of Aquaman, classic 70’s Black Lighting, the Creeper and the Flash (OK – hardcore Flash fans… lightning belt circling waist marks him as silver age Barry, right?) hits shelves about a month later on July 15 2009.
I am eagerly anticipating Blue Devil, Aquaman (I have the one with the cheesy golden age smile that came with Garth and a giant seahorse), Black Lightning (as cool as the modern age JLA version looks, nostalgia calls for the classic look) and I also want the Flash (which I prefer to the upcoming Justice League of America Series 3 Wally West version)
I am so glad to see that there are people of faith who do not live in fear of gays and lesbians being able to live and love completely openly and equally. The folks at Mission Gathering posted the reasons they took out the billboard here at the blog Our Hearts Are With You. They believe “God’s love and grace is for ALL people, regardless of race, creed, sexual identity, or life circumstances.” Which sounds a lot more Christian than what I usually hear from a pulpit.
Mission Gathering Christian Church is sorry for the narrow-minded, judgmental, deceptive, manipulative actions of those who took away the rights and equality of so many in the name of God.
The San Diego billboard is sparking discussion from both sides of the fence. Depending on whose blog you are reading you might find it called a “wonderful outreach” or a Church selling out Christ to make a buck.
The church was founded by a group of young adults who say they wanted “to embody God’s grace to the emerging/postmodern culture they were a part of.” It’s affiliated with The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) which has approximately 723,000 members throughout North America and is the denomination Ronald Reagan was baptized in. So, despite having a Facebook page and a podcast that includes titles like “Sexuality & Spirituality: Sex, Lies and Craigslist”, the apologetic Christians sit squarely within the mainline Protestant tradition.
San Diego has been arguably the epicenter of the Prop 8. protest movement, with over 25,000 people marching in the streets in last week’s “Day of Impact Protest“– the largest group anywhere.
I myself am a lapsed Catholic (raised churchgoing but gave it up first day away from home at college – it was never anything for me but a place to think – I got the same level of meditation while mowing the lawn), but I do like to hear that there are people who believe yet still have the ability to think for themselves.
