Batman #679 the return of… Bat-Mite?

Bat-Mite? REALLY? OK I admit, Grant Morrison lost me when he had Batman trust that red-headed Jezabelle (both literally and figuratively) and invite her to the Batcave (might as well have him dress up like Fonzie and jump sharks on water skis). So I missed some chapters. I’d love a quick synopsis as to how we got to a disheveled, pink and magenta clad Batman who sees and hears Bat-Mite sitting on his shoulder piping in his own two cents worth. Anyone reading this? Someone PLEASE clue me in as to what the hell is going on. I want to know - but not badly enough to buy it.

    1. Anonymous Says:

Morrison used Bat-mite earlier in his run on Batman, except he changed the character from being from an alternate dimensional imp to being (or at least heavily implied) figment of Bruce’s imagination. It seems in RIP that this illusion would pop up again, just to continue the idea that Bruce has gone crazy.

So Bat-Mite just started popping up and Bruce never questioned where he came from and what he was?

Has there been any further reveal on what exactly is messing with his head? This is the hero who survived Joker killing one sidekick and crippling another (so Robin got better and Oracle is far more effective than Batgirl - it was still emotionally devastating).

I only read 1 issue - where he invites the red-headed-jezabel into the Batcave (not a good idea). She was with him at the computers when it looked like some kind of episode was triggered, and then she was manipulating him. I just thought, this isn’t a Batman story I want to read. Bruce is better than that - i just don’t buy it. He’s a Skrull. Oh wait, damn wrong universe.

Well - there HAVE been crossovers. I can hope.
