Buffy the ANIMATED Vampire Slayer!
Here is a short pilot/teaser for the abandoned Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated series. Development never got further than this short video because networks didn’t want to commit to a show that was too adult/violent for kids but not right for primetime either.
What about the Cartoon Network? Seems like a perfect fit.

I knew it. This show was always ripe for an animated series. Timing, I guess. That did sound like Gellar (although it was not) and the rest of the voices returned. This teaser seemed stale, but began to hit a good stride…then ended.
I think the Buffy character design could have been stronger, but there’s probably a likeness issue that would require Gellar to sign off if they got any closer to the actress’ personal look.
The animation wasn’t stunning, but it had the promise of maturing into something closer to JLA grade. I hope Whedon reconsiders doing something with this. The time for it may ripen again.

I would love a Buffy cartoon but would prefer a post-finale continuation to new stories from the early years (you know they want to do a safe kiddie cartoon, but execs probably feel Willow’s lesbianism, Buffy’s sexual activity, not to mention the inherently violent nature of the concept itself make it nigh impossible).
I would love to see an edgier not-for-kids animated adaption of Joss Whedon’s current comic series version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8. Or an animated series that shows what happened between the fall of Sunnydale and issue #1 of season 8 (there is a big gap - maybe room for a movie?) I bet they could get it on prime time on Cartoon Network or SciFi Channel. if not on one of the networks.

I would like to see an animated version of the Season 8 Buffy graphic novelization, but that should be a separate thing with a style that better emulated those comics. I like this little cartoon pitch set in the golden time of the Buffy series in its own right.
Either way, animation affords new opportunities and freedoms that couldn’t be explored as easily live action. I really would like to see an animated Buffy something. An animated X-Files wouldn’t be bad either. Maybe that’s the way it will go after the lack-luster performance of the perfectly good current film.
