Comment posted LGBT Spotlight on… X-Factor’s Rictor & Shatterstar by Powerboy.

Those of you who don’t follow the book, may not know that Peter David is known to frown upon people revealing his plots so you should appreciate that you got to see any of the arguement. BUT you really should be reading the book. It is one of the most consistently interesting and compelling super hero books out there.

I’ll add that from the looks of the last page of X-Factor #107 and the cover of #108 (which has been released so we can talk about it), it looks like there will be some on-panel discussion about Rictor and Shatterstar’s relationship once the flying fur clears.

  1. I like this because it isn’t the whole usual gay comic story of the only two gay characters in a book meet, immediately fall in love and are monogamous forever without ever looking at another person. While I like the Wiccan/Hulkling relationship, it is a little pollyannaish. Peter David really knows how to capture human interactions.

Combine Wiccan/Hulkling’s emotional/sexual experience and take into consideration the shared events that helped cement the bond between the pair and their level of commitment isn’t really that pollyannaish. But I agree with your point, the type of relationship developing between Rictor and Shatterstar not only seems very authentic, but also makes sense.

  4. Okay, wow. I’ve been meaning to pick up backissues of X-Factor just to see how Shatterstar and Rictor’s paring was going…but this I have to say is unexpected. Shatterstars’ almost aspbergersesqe frankness about sexuality is interesting, and Rictor’s feelings…seem entirely familar to me personally. I think this is a very nuanced, very valid conversation to be having..and you’re right, a pretty suprising one to be having in a comic book medium. Brave new world even.

Just a little correction, Powerboy. The issues in question are X-Factor #207 and 208, not #107 and 108. As you mentioned, there is going to be some sort of confrontation between Shatterstar and Wolfsbane in #208. But the issue to look out for is the one with Rictor and Wolfsbane in #210 coming out this October). Comic Book Resources has just posted the cover today.

  7. So… these pages are from issues 207 and 208? or earlier? If anyone knows what issue this is from could you pleas enlighten me?

And forgive my ignorance (I have not had time to catch up on the past 2 years of X-Factor), but has there been any mention of a reaction from Longshot, once thought to be Shatterstar’s progenitor, concerning this relationship?

…also, I can’t help but feel some elation knowing that every time they take the Rictor/Shatterstar relationship up a notch Rob Liefeld gets just that much closer to an inevitable aneurysm. Maybe they can test out Shatterstar’s hankering for a threesome on Madddroxs gay dupe? I’m sure that would help the cerebral blood clot along nicely, not to mention how effing hot it would… er, I’m gonna stop myself there before I start having blood-rushing issues of my own….

when you click on the images, they expand – caption below each says from X-Factor 207.

Why stop a a 3way… with Madrox it could be a full blown orgy, that oughtta pop a vessel in Liefeld’s brain.

  9. ahhh… cool… I didn’t even think of trying that to get the issue numbers… thanks fanboi!

…and I wonder, would the gay Madrox dupe be more likely to make other gay dupes? Seems like the inkling for dude on bro action is in the “core” Jamie somewhere; didn’t he and M talk about him having a one-man orgy once when they were in X-Corp?

I don’t remember that orgy discussion between Madrox an Monet, but I did mention a few moments that put Madrox in the gray area in his LGBT Character Superlist Entry.

If anyone has the comic Scamandrios mentioned or wants to scan any of the moments mentioned in the entry I’m sure I con form an article around them… I love contributions for articles!
