GayComicGeek’s Hancock review
Here is a review posted by GayComicGeek about Hancock. He seemed to like it OK as a popcorn movie and didn’t mention Hancock’s “homo, homo in red, Norwegian homo” comment while looking at costume designs that GLAAD is up in arms about.
A gay friend of mine saw the movie and thought that the moment was funny… i’m waiting until I see how gay the costumes look before I decide if its funny or offensive.

The departure from both the Will Smith persona and the average do-gooder superhero image we’re used to seeing in cinema is at the core of Hancock’s premise. The trailers make that clear.
I hear more bigotry just walking about as a young gay man in San Francisco than in this film. This is an edgy, barely PG-13 popcorn picture; not a politically correct Kindergarten play. There is no need for a disclaimer every instance the character steps out of line. Imagine Bruce Willis’ John McClane with super powers and you’ve got the gist of this character. He’s just pissed off at the world and himself, but he still manages to do what has to be done (and with little appreciation from anyone).
GLAAD has real life issues to worry about instead of some manufactured outrage. The argument is over Hancock saying of three comic book covers, “Homo, homo in red, Norwegian homo…” and it cracked the proud blond gay boy up! And yes, most comic book hero costumes look a little on the gay side…ahem…that’s kind of some of the brilliance of this very blog site.
If GLAAD trying to insinuate that the majority of people wouldn’t find an orange and green spandex clad Aquaman (for better or worse) wouldn’t raise eyebrows at a public beach then Hancock must have already shoved their heads up one another’s asses already (as demonstrated in the move, yet amazingly not noted by GLAAD). If the organization wants to see pasteurized non-offensive fluff film, Space Chimps is right around the corner (shudders).
As for the film, yeah, there are pacing problems and it has clearly been hacked to bits – but it is a lot of FUN. If you like the ads, you’ll probably like the film. If I were bored enough I’d start GLAFF: the Gay and Lesbian Alliance for FUN in Film! But I’d rather just live my life and have lots of naked “homo” time with my beautiful partner.
Seriously, this is why people get annoyed with gay activism – pick your battles GLAAD.
