Herc loves Hylas…

There must be something in the air. The ancient love story of Hercules and Hylas keeps showing up this week. First I read the Incredible Hercules 118 and found myself treated to Hercules worst nightmare… losing Hylas I mentioned it in this weeks Weekly Stack. Then today I see Queerty talking about DJ Andy Butler’s Hercules & Love Affair which is based on the Hercules/Hylas relationship – see “blind” from DJ Andy Butler after the artwork from Incredible Herc.

Swingtown swings both ways

Swingtown CBS Thursdays 10PM

Grant show will be swinging both ways…
Melrose hunk Grant Show will be having some homo moments in Swingtown. I don’t know how much will go down on-screen because Swingtown manages the unique feat of “being about sex without being explicit.”

Swingtown is a new hour drama set in the swinging 70’s. It revolves around a comparatively innocent couple who’s moving on up to the lake side. Fiery redhead Susan Miller (Molly Parker) and husband Bruce (Jack Davenport) move into a new neighborhood across from a swinging airline pilot Tom Decker (Grant Show of Melrose Place) and his ex-stewardess wife Trina (Lana Parrilla). The new neighbors glamorous lifestyle quickly has a seductive effect, and the Millers follow the Decker’s down the rabbit hole. The third couple rounding out the Swingtown cast are frustrated suburban housewife Janet Thompson (Miriam Shor) and henpecked husband Roger (a dorkified Josh Hopkins). The cast also includes the kids of the neighborhood.

I can’t stand people who rush to judgment without watching but I’m sure there will be plenty of small minded inbred types who want to keep the airwaves safe for our children or something, but occasionally you need to let a story unfold and trust it’s going somewhere. The show may glamorize some aspects of swinging but anyone with half a brain can spot a variety of foreshadowed subplots that will be the consequences of the lifestyle.
