Fair and Balanced? I think not

Here are some of the LATEST atrocities committed in the guise of news by Fox News. In the first we see some indepth definition and explanation of the Obamas celebratory Wonder Twins moment followed by Fox News’ interpretation – complete with body language experts.

In the second we see Fox News referring to Michelle Omaba, Barack Obama’s wife of almost 16 years as “Barack’s Baby Momma.” Fox News always does their best to associate people with negative concepts, and their easily led flock eats it up with a spoon. They are well known for the memos about talking points to hit on and buzz words they want to attach to someone. Doesn’t matter what the word, it may be flip flopper, terrorist, or baby mama – they have no shame or scruples.

Miserly Marvel exec Maisel lowballs Favreau

I thought it was odd that Marvel hadn’t locked in Jon Favreau to direct Iron Man 2. Now we know why.

Iron Man director Jon Favreau, with Robert Downey Jr.

They got him cheap first time around (not sure of EXACT numbers, but he got considerably less than other directors of recent LESS successful Comic Book Movies) and now he’s asking for a standard director’s fee. But chairman of Marvel Studios David Maisel hasn’t stepped up to give the man the kind of reward he richly deserves for such an overwhelming blockbuster. From what Jon Favreau says on his official mySpace page, Marvel DEFINITELY is dropping the ball by not offering better treatment of its star director…

It’s been five weeks since the one and only phone call my reps have gotten from Marvel. I know their hands are full with the Hulk and I’m sure they will get into it shortly, as they tell me they intend to. I ran into the Marvel guys at the Hulk premiere and everyone sounded eager to get to work on IM2.

I am concerned, however, about the announced release date of April 2010. Neither Robert nor I were consulted about this and we are both concerned about how realistic the date is in light of the fact that we have no script, story or even writers hired yet. This genre of movie is best when it is done thoughtfully and with plenty of preparation. It might be better to follow the BB/DK, X/X2 three year release pattern than to scramble for a date. It is difficult because there are no Marvel 09 releases and they need product, but I also think we owe it to the fans to have a great version of IM2 and, at this point, we would have less time to make it than the first one.”

The success of Iron Man has allowed marvel to roll out an aggressive 3 year plan that they would not have otherwise. Ill be seeing Hulk this weekend, so I’ll let you know what i think. From what I hear I’ll like it, but I hope they do a DVD version with the darker material they edited out in order to make a more kid-friendly popcorn movie.

Secret Invasion Fantastic Four #2

Johnny and Lyja bring domestic violence to a new level with the fate of the Fantastic Four (or at least 2 of them + the kids) hanging in the balance. I loved the first issue and this one looks great so far. I’ve wanted to see a real showdown with these two for awhile. Will Johnny defeat her in battle, or will his charm warm the cockles of Lyja’s heart again?

HIV is Still a Big Deal

It’s not as much fun as my usual posts, but its important. Many have noticed a distinct lack of HIV awareness in todays youth. This video has been making the rounds. Its the first in a series of web videos meant to reach the youTube generation. Please share it.

X-Factor #32

I knew when we saw Val Cooper at last issue’s conflagration that she had plans for Jamie Madrox and his crew and from the looks of the opening of #32, it seems like she’s setting up a scene to make some kind of proposition.
